  • On September 14, 1984, San Diego Police Officers Kimberly Tonahill and Timothy Ruopp tragically were both killed in the line of duty during a routine patrol contact that turned fatal. Officer Gary Mitrovich was also critically injured but survived. On the 40th Anniversary of their deaths to honor the legacy of these courageous officers, a heartfelt community effort culminated in the renaming of Grape Street Park to the Kimberly Tonahill and Timothy Ruopp Memorial Park. The ceremony was a powerful tribute, bringing together the officers’ families, colleagues, and the San Diego community.
