As a sharks fan the only thing that would make me panic is if the rookies get injured or start to fall off hard. At this point I just want Mathew Schaffer.
You would LOVE Matthew Schaefer! We love him here in Erie (I’m an Erie STH)! He’s young and he’s had a lot put on his young shoulders (his mom died of cancer in the middle of last season when he was still 16 and his billet mom also died last season), but he’s risen above it. He plays for his mom, even said so before the World Juniors. The broken collarbone was unfortunate, but the fact that he’s still so highly thought of in spite of it speaks volumes.
That Nashville game was BRUTAL, but also what the sharks lowkey need 😂. Show off the rookies talent, then lose quickly (and make sure it isn’t Askarov getting blown up in net lol). One step closer to better picks
Shannon suggesting where/how you can get whiteboards, stickers and magnets to make your own panic index if you disagree is peak THG and I love it XD. Great video as always!
Hello! I am new to hockey and was put on your channel through a fan on twitter. I appreciate the amount of work you put into all of this. It definitely helps someone like me understand how a season is flowing from someone who just loves hockey as a whole. I have watched a lot of different teams based on matchups I find interesting. I don't have an allegiance to a team really since my city doesn't have one, But your love for the game makes me excited for any game I decide to turn on. This is my first full season of watching and I have wondered the whole time "where has this sport been all my life?" thank you
In the case of Vancity that good be used to grade the players and fans...while Media are having the times of their lives, especially the ones who root for T.O.. they love other Canadian team's misfortune and cry over every boo boo in Leaf land.
Agree! Seattle slots in better under that too. Some/many fans were skeptical of the team this season. Ron Francis probably falls under "Panic" because it's looking like he can't get the team over the hump, like in Carolina
Montreal is fun to watch right now. Love to see a rookie goaltender come in to the league and surprise everyone. Rangers are getting back to “normal” and Philly is 6-0-1 in their past 7 while Ersson is 8-1 in his last nine. They’re getting scoring across the lines, defense, blocks, and goaltending. Crazy.
The Wild didn't make the payoffs last year, 2 years ago is when they faded late and got beat in the first round (rinse and repeat). Good news for them is they are getting Kaprizov and Spurgeon back tomorrow night, they sent Jiricek down who actually showed some flashes. Brodin and Johansson still out, but overall MN is finally getting healthy again.
As a Canucks fan, I am past the panic part of this lol. I'm already at "waiting for the lottery " I don't see things getting better, I just see them falling further out of the playoff hunt.
Wild fans are flying high today. Kaprizov and Spurgeon back for tomorrow very likely. Even more likely with the Jirichek reassignment. And just a note you said last year Wild were out in the first round after looking like they could win the division at times but that was actually 2 years ago. Last year we missed altogether and nearly led the league in man-games lost to injury. This year seems different. Lots of injuries but around .600 through the Kaprizov/Spurgeon/Brodin/Middleton/Lauko/Johansson/JEE/Zuccarello gap.
If Leafs and Habs meet In the playoffs, I could see the winner going all the way. And lots of O.T. For the first time in years they're both fighting fit. It's the archetypical Canadian rivalry.
You look like you are feeling much better today. I hope your migraine is gone. Love your panic index episodes... NY Ranger fan here for about 60 years...
As a Habs fan I think we are off the chart. No way any of us would have predicted this. We were dead last in the entire league on Nov. 16th. We shouldn't be there but here we are. 🤩
the turning point for the habs was assistant coach Stephane Robibas telling the players after a tough training : "why not us? why not now?" the rest is history
I absolutely love that THG expected comments about the Wild placement. I'll be the first I guess. If there was a place they could be between the second and third line I would place them there. Making the playoffs is goal 1, they are still on track to get there and they are in line 2 for that reason. They are currently not playing well enough to be a cup contender and injury questions put them on the third row. They have to be 100% healthy + luck to be a contender anyway. I'm enjoying the ride and thinking about next year already.
The drought ends when the Kings decide to lift the McSorley curse, and for that to happen they would have to beat Montreal in the final. Sorry Canada, I don't make the rules!
I believe it's actually 3 riots. In '94, there were actually two...the first with half of Surrey climbing lampposts and breaking stuff, and the second the cops pulled them off the lampposts and tossed them around the tear gas with vigour, occasionally using bean bags to rush fellas along. But really those are only the hockey riots..😊 Peace out!
Devils are in full blown panic. I certainly hope beyond hope that they dont over react and trade for someone like Miller as a reaction. We did that years ago with Timo. Hes fine but hes not what he was advertised to be.
6:50 The other thing I would say is that the Caps play a very opportunistic style of hockey right now. When the Caps lost back-to-back in the second round to Pittsburgh, that was the style that Pittsburgh played that burned the Caps over and over in those first two series. I watch the Caps now and I see some terrifying breakaways that need to get cleaned up, but everything else looks like good, sound hit-em-when-they-least-expect-it hockey.
@ I guess I should have specified selling the team and relocation because us in Buffalo don’t want the Sabres to move. All we want is a good season and none of us know how we get there.
Ever think about having a The Dude magnet for teams that aren't in the playoffs but the fans also are like, okay we've accepted the fate of the team and now we're just watching just to support them? Not quite trap game, not quite concerned, and have crested over the point of panic. I think that true panic moment in retrospect, for the Kraken, was that period of time when we first found out Eberle shattered his hip and was going to be out the rest of the season, and had Dunn also on LTIR. Those were some rough games, especially the California trip, and was the lowest point of the year for the team because prior to that, Eberle had been an absolute offensive force as Captain. They'd barely played a month into the season when that had happened. But, taking a silver lining out of a bad situation, it did allow us to get Kakko, and i'm pretty sure the team will move mountains to keep him now. The one exception, fan wise, is panic over the trade deadline. With names like Tanev and Gourde on the block, we're concerned about losing part of the heart of the team. But they will need to make a decision coming up that some fans won't like unfortunately, just what it will be is unknown. All of that said, when the team starts on time, it has been amazing to see, and that come back win is going to haunt some people for awhile. We've accepted this was going to be an unlucky and injury prone season that has allowed some of the younger players to get more time (Grubauer injury, Daccord food poisoning, Dunn lower body injury, Gourde upper body injury right now, Eberle shattered hip, just to name a few) and now we really just hope the boys have fun and stay healthy the rest of the year.
As a Seattle fan, I was fully expecting us to be on that bottom rung here. When we win games it makes us feel like we could go all the way if we played like that all the time. I just feel like we haven't seen a win streak good enough to give a lot of confidence, but we also haven't seen a streak of games where win or lose they play their best on the ice. Possibly right now we are seeing that and in a couple weeks this video's take will turn out correct, but for me we are at the part of the season where even when they play well I get the sinking feeling that its just gonna fall apart as quickly as it came together.
THG, I would love a video on acquisitions at the deadline who have been successful. it seems to me more often than not teams buy players at the deadline and they go quiet in the playoffs because they haven't had time to gel with the team and style
Wild were able to get through an entire month without Kaprizov and went 7-5 against a schedule that included the Stars, Avs x2, Oilers x2, Knights, Capitals, and Canes. They’re getting Kaprizov and Spurgeon back tomorrow. Brodin’s their only other major injury after that. They’re definitely not in the concerned category while sitting 2nd in the Central.
One important reason teams like NYI, Philly & the Hawks are trap teams is that the top teams will often rest their #1 goalie. And they have talented players that can beat a #2 easily. LOL! Then I watch the rest of the video and you steal my thunder! You’re awesome!
Fair assessment of the Blues. A few too many losses against bad teams even as they beat some top teams. Need another piece or two to make the playoffs.
As a Bruins fan, the only thing that panics me at all is that the team will again buy at the trade deadline. Except for Marchand, who has a Cup, the core of the team is young enough to muddle through 2 or 3 mediocre seasons while they "retool."
Wings fans were there a few years ago, tbh I gotta say this limbo are that the Wings are in is honestly more frustrating. Grass is always greener. We are good enough to beat any team, but are unbelievably inconsistent. Imo this is a worse box to be in.
As a Habs fan, I'm actually panicking ! We shouldn't be where we at righht now ! whatever the hell happened to ''let's get one last top 5 pick'' ?? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to witness this, the games are very entertaining, buuuuut... let's be honest here, this rythm is unsustainable ! I'm afraid that if we go back to our predicted trend and standings position, this winning streak will have destroyed our chances for a Top 5 pick OK, before anyone says anything : I know they mentionned so many times : ''Being in the Mix'' .... from Day 1 of training camp, I truly believed it would never happen... they proved me right until Laine came back to play... Overall, I'm panicking out of fear of a hard reality check.... I'll be ultimately happy if they do make the playoffs, for sure... but I don't know, I'd rather put my hopes on the safe side, and maybe be surprised...
It's an awkward feeling as a caps fan that we're leading the race for the presidents trophy right now and yet the teams actual playdriving numbers have been bad forr weeks now, Logan Thompson and a high shooting percentage are propelling this team forward but will that last into the playoffs? I kinda doubt it, Happy with the standings, less happy with Line combos and the teams chemistry at 5v5 lately.
Same issue means coaching isnt doing their job. Atleast the goalie is saving them. Keefe finally grew a back bone and started ripping them a part, but i need to see him do that on the bench to jack and luke who keep making costly mistakes and dumb turnovers.
I feel like this board is a mix between power rankings and panic index. Like, there's no actual paramaters for this, it's just something that is fun to do. Purely opinion, and that's why I watch this channel. If I wanted just cold stats I could go anywhere. But his opinion, being a big hockey fan for a long time can help you see things you may not have saw before. But I still think MN is not worried. Their pipeline is stocked full of AAA talent and no one was expecting them to be where they are now. I'm just glad the Suter/Parise era is over.
For Washington last nights game showed me that they are missing one key piece in the forward group, and thats a game breaker. They need someone with the speed skill and hands every single night if they wanma compete for a stanley cup. Not a veteran over 29, not a 24 year old thats never seen the post season, but soemone thats got the skill set and the heart to drive play the way ovi did 10 years ago.
Dubas' version of a rebuild will be something like making Rantanen the highest paid player in the league (if he hits the open market), Penguins should be the most panicked team of all.
The one panic for Nashville is what to do about their coaching, and what roster moves should they make. Buffalo is a panicked team until their GM is gone. If I were Lindey Ruff I’d insist on a new GM.
Interesting how the Habs went from a Lottery to a Trap to a Happy team. This Habs fan is happy with their performance, which I didn't expect to see go so well. It looks like the goalie situation has been settled. Look for Savard to be traded to make way for Mailloux,. The forwards are playing well and I expect the Habs to keep Evans and Armia. Although Dvorak is making a case for himself in several ways. I'm not sure if they'll make the playoffs with so many teams contending, but they should do so next year (25-26), win a round or two in 26-27, and be serious contenders in 27-28 for a few years, with maybe a Cup win in 29.
Ducks could be put in the panic category too. Not because of the losing but because of player development. They haven't addressed the logjam on the blue line, and despite having so many talented forwards on the roster, there seem to be no development plans, just endless line shuffling. The only reason they are a trap team is their stellar goaltending.
"Benny hill music Everytime the Canucks play lately" is a great description lol
Very funny
This killed me. I will never again be able to watch the Canucks and not think of this.
Only lately? With the exception of the odd season I feel they’ve been that way for most of their existence
Yakety Sax would be fun for highlights.
As a sharks fan the only thing that would make me panic is if the rookies get injured or start to fall off hard. At this point I just want Mathew Schaffer.
You would LOVE Matthew Schaefer! We love him here in Erie (I’m an Erie STH)! Keefe needs to be fired at this point.

@@coordinator3039lol what😂😂😂
You guys are fiiiine. Just believe in the team. As a Habs fan, this feel way easier to do right now lol
Relax … the only panic is that we won’t win the cup. If we miss the playoffs , it’s time to panic
There needs to be an “Apathy” section.
How about Complacent

May as well call that the Buffalo category.
Tampa having the least amount of points of any team in the NHL against divisional opponents is concerning.
1 point between Tampa, Montreal, Ottawa and Boston. Detroit isn’t completely out of it either, nor Florida is completely safe.
Crazy af division.
Another well put together video Shannon
New Jersey in full panic mode now
Proof Keefe is a AHL caliber coach.. he gets out coached 98% of games

@@KDMEC77 You guys got this, Bruins will lose tonight 😂
Sucks though. :/
@@KDMEC77what’s happened? Markstrom and the team were on fire not too long ago.
Habs on top of the panic index this year was really not on my bingo card…..
And Washington at the top of the standings, in late January, is exactly what everyone was predicting back in October.
Imagine the shitstorm in Toronto if the Habs end up going deeper in the playoffs than the leafs.
Canucks full panic

Love the thumbnail 😂
Montreal is on a roll... if they continue this style they will make the playoffs but we are causiously optomistic
Dude forget about the playoffs. If they keep this up they are cup contenders. For 1/4 of the season they have been the best team in the league.

2 RIOTS AND ZERO STANLEY CUPS ARE FACTS
This joke is about as original and repetitive as Canadians and Americans voting against their own interests every election.
Both riots were more recent than the last Edmonton Stanley Cup.
@TheHockeyGuy that isn't a good thing.
I believe it's actually 3 riots. Short of selling the team, where do the Sabres even go from here?
Add a veteran or two who know how to win. I honestly think they should make a non ironic pitch for ROR and Schenn.
I would say specifically, add veteran defensemen.
Ditch Kevyn Adams, hire a POHO and new GM, convince Pegulas to spend more on off-ice stuff like scouts and palm trees.
Quebec City? 😛

The one panic for Nashville is what to do about their coaching, and what roster moves should they make. Buffalo is a panicked team until their GM is gone. If I were Lindey Ruff I’d insist on a new GM.
Wings be streaky
FIRE KEEFE!
I expected nothing from the Sharks and I'm still disappointed
Very few teams at the top. Another sign of the "dog days" of the season?
It's also concerning for the Wings with the turnovers and PK. It's looking like those first 10 McLellan games were a fluke.
last night's botch has us tampa fans starting to sweat
Canucks are in oh shit oh fuck mode. Legit 0 faith in this team making playoffs
Ducks could be put in the panic category too. Not because of the losing but because of player development. They haven't addressed the logjam on the blue line, and despite having so many talented forwards on the roster, there seem to be no development plans, just endless line shuffling. The only reason they are a trap team is their stellar goaltending.
