- Sakura recently released 5 New Colors in their Gelly Roll Moonlight gel pens! Being a big fan of the Moonlight pens, I HAD to get my hands on these and give them a try. The last time that they released colors in this line was in 2020. These new colors are pastel gel pens and are a perfect addition to the other 25 colors in the Moonlight line. And what I like even more is that they have a 1.0mm ball point, so they are bold and juicy! I love how opaque these gel pens are and how well they smear, paint and blend! For this Gelly Roll review I decided to draw a mandala and color it using only these 5 new Moonlight pastel colors. I hope you enjoy.

Good info. I got the 'vintage' Moonlight set in a subscription box last year. I don't really use gel pens so I haven't used them really. It's nice to learn more about the range though and understand the best ways to use them.
You weren't sure on the name of that pack but it just says pale colours.
I love the cute clip of Rose at the end. She's so precious. I hope she has fully recovered from her injury last year. The pastels are gorgeous. You have triggered full set syndrome for me with these.

Since the earth colors are available in the 10 now, will you be updating the swatch charts? I ordered a set. They are really nice! I just realized that the grays are also available in 10. I need those too as well as the pastels.
I got the metallic ones a few days ago from Saw-ker-uh which is a Japanese cherry blossom.
The metallics are also very nice.
My first ever set of gel pens was acquired by accident.
They fell off of a display that was above the conveyer belt where we were putting our groceries down. I remember seeing them there but I did not actually give them much thought.
But, when we got home, there they were in one of the bags. My mother at the time thought I'd done a sneaky thing while she wasn't looking. I got yelled at, and mom refused to believe that I had not put them in the cart on purpose.
But I ended up with the pens anyway and had a good time with them.

Thank you for showing these pens. I went and bought them. That pastel green is like a tiffany blue. It is very pretty. I like the yellow, too. It seems kind of like and adobe yellow or orange.

Gelly Rolls are my favorite pen to play with. I always have one or more with me, even when I am out for some plein air. I am on a 6-month no-buy and failing miserably, but since I have lots of Gelly Rolls, I think I hold off on getting them for now....at least that is the plan. We shall see what happens in real life. 🤣 Oh my, I just saw that they are 10s! Okay, Tracie, step away from the Amazon link...
Thanks for the awesome video! Have you checked out the Pentel Dual Metallic pens? they are wonderfully iridescent and super fun on mandalas. You might have to look around but there are about 16 total colors.

I have seen the Gelly Roll 5 pack of moonlight at our back to school section at Walmart here, BUT there only $1.00 cheaper then the 10 pack, so it would be better in this case to just get the 10 pack.

I've never seen anyone design their own mandala before, it's beautiful 🥰 what was the tool you were using to make the circles? It reminds me of the old spirograph that I used to spend hours playing with when I was younger. I must check to see if you can still buy them!

Lovely colours, could you tell me what is the difference between the moonlight and the soufflé Sakura gelly roll. I have several of the soufflé so I’m just wondering if I should purchase these. TYIA 😊
Souffle are a special type of ink that raises and looks "puffy" on paper after it dries. Moonlight pens will not do that but they are known for being very opaque as seen in the video. Buy them if you like the colors.

How are you getting the airbrush effect in the mandala? It was done too fast to catch how you created that look. Since getting a lot of gelly pens instead of copics (you know why) , I would like to know how to use them outside of light spots in eyes and pupils 🙂

They definitely don’t have as long of a shelf life as colored pencils…too bad. Contact Sakura to find out when they will be available in your area

How do you "smear" these pens? On purpose, that is, like you mentioned.
Hello Jennifer, in one of your older videos, you used a plastic sheet I. Between the pages of your coloring book, (I think it was plastic) could you let me know the name of that item please, I don't remember which video you used it in. Thank you in advance.
I’m not sure exactly what you are referring to but if it was plastic, it was probably a thin plastic cutting board that I buy from Dollar Tree (2 to a pack). These plastic cutting boards are so helpful in many different situations.

Love Gelly Roll ❤ but I don’t like that they give you two 1.0mm pens. Why not if two of the same color make it in each size 06 & 10. 😢

Glaze is sort of transparent and souffle is eh, so they don't work on black paper. Glaze is beautiful on white paper.
