  • In this episode we spend a few more days in the amazing Desolation Sound, sailing from Tenedos Bay over to Laura Cove. From there we explore Melanie Cove & Prideaux Haven before sailing all the way back down the Sunshine Coast to Vancouver on our Macgregor 26m

We love your videos. Everyone else here made comments on the scenery, which is beautiful! For Macgregor owners, we love to see how you make use of such a great all around boat that sails, motors and sleeps the crew. We look forward to more of your Macgregor adventures.

Really enjoyed your videos guys, you are 2 very genuine and sweet individuals. I'm glad you shared these moments with us, you did a great job making us feel like we were there with you. I also would like to have seen more of your continuing adventures, but understand how being together in the moment is more important than capturing it for others. Many thanks.

great video guys, have enjoyed the same places you visited.. Smuggler cove has some super walking trails around the park. go all the way into the bay, behind the cabin and you can get right onto the trail system. Left takes you east and to a huge boardwalk, spot the beaver if you can. Right turn takes you onto a loop trail that we love hiking.

Seeing you’ve sold Sea Weasel are you still sailing and living aboard in a different sailboat? Whilst there are quite a few sailing channels so there is multiple channels of other topics. Your a very likeable couple of which many of us would like to see more of . Please give us an update 👍

Thanks for your comments. We sold the macgregor and bought a Catalina 36 we sailed it the last two summers full time .We completed a circumnavigation of Vancouver island then sold the boat at the end of our trip. We recently just got back from sailing in Mexico for the last month and a half so we have still been sailing lots . We’re going to start looking for another boat probably next winter. Cheers Steve and Ally.

@@sailingthefreelife that really is great news to hear you’ve still been enjoying the sailing life. Hopefully you’ll jump back in front of the camera with a new boat in the near future.
Thank you for taking the time for an update, all the best 👍❤️🇬🇧

Not sure why you were so worried about the depth sounder.... lift the dagger board and you can ride up onto a beach with that shallow draft.

New subscriber here, I have watched all your videos on the McGregor and have enjoyed it immensely. My dream is to get a McGregor myself someday, but I will have very different views as in love in SW Louisiana here in the states..I heard you mention other trips at the the end of this video, but haven't seen any videos yet. I understand this footage was 5 years ago but do y'all still own your McGregor, if so do you still do trips in it? Thank you so much.

    Nice video
What size is your engine and how fast does it push your boat ?
What yr is your outboard and is it a 2 stroke or 4 stroke. I also got a Mac26M with a 50 Yamaha 4 stroke, I only get about 11 or 12 mph.

    • @sailingthefreelife
      @sailingthefreelife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Mark Oliver we have a 2stroke 90hp tohatsu. Max is 31km hr. I think it would do better if we removed weight but usually we are fairly heavy with all our food and gear. Heavy items like two Batts, generator, two anchors with chain , cooler , food, fishing gear 50-100liters of water ect ect make a pretty big diffrence I'm sure. I actually tested it out one day and wrote down my finding so here's some more info.
      Engine rpm with 11 pitch
      Ladder,keel,rudders,towing dingy with full ballast.
      1k RPM-5.5to5.9km
      2k -10km
      3k 13.2kmto13.4km
Rudders up,ladder up, dagger up towing dingy
      1k 6.1km
      2k 10.2
      3k 13.6
      With ballast removed.pulleying dingy
      1k 6.1km
      2k 10.3km
      3k 13.9km
Full throttle with ballast 4.9k at 27kmhr
Full throttle without ballast 5k at 30.4

Sailing the Free Life Hi. I'm curious if you' e found another boat; of so what you got. I'm in NYC and the currents and wind are probably fine for a Mac but it gets choppy and in areas, moderate swells, so I'm wondering if you have any comparison insight now.

    • @sailingthefreelife

Hillbilly Heaven glad you liked them. We have done quite a bit more sailing and have video'd it but it is video from our trip down the west coast from San Diago to Cabo mexico. And also Puerto Rico to Antigua and a places in between. I think there is plenty others who have videos on these places and do a better job sharing on video than we could so we haven't done any more videos. We have sold sea weasel and might do some more video as we look for our next cruising boat!

Do you think it's possible to sail a MacGregor 26 from Florida to Martinique? Im not interested in comments about "comfort" im prepared to endure hardship. I just need to know if it's realistically possible.

Why do you always have your dog on the leash, even in remote areas? Is it the law in Canada?
And thanks for sharing, we are from Europe, but hope to sail to BC in the next 5-10 years.

    • @sailingthefreelife
      @sailingthefreelife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Annabell Schröder it wouldn't be a problem to have a dog off leash as far as I know. But our dog was 8 years old when we got her and will run if she see's people coming towards her , or if somthing scared her like a bear bang or falling tree ect she would run into the woods and be lost.

Thanks for your feedback Laurent Froggy. We are still amateurs when it comes to filming & editing. Hoping to upgrade from our cheap underwater Olympus camera that we shot most of the video with... open to suggestions on equipment or editing options other than doing voice over for everything with the motor going.

haha i think it was awesome, how about you set up a patreon account and Laurent can give you a bunch of money so you can get the best camera equipment and just sit around all day making amazing vids to please this guy lol.
