Great video! Louisa is one of my favourite places! did you see the mountain goats up on the cliffs at 10:15 you need binoculars. I'm hoping to go there real soon.
Thanks, its good to be back! Home that is . We were gone for six weeks sailing from Puerto Rico to Antigua (friends boat). We plan to do a few vids of that as well!
Good video of a wonderful place. Wish you had a better video camera with a image stabilizer. A hint, slow down on your pan shots. This must have been a great experience. I think I read somewhere that made me believe you were going to travel full-time. Is that right? You all seem like really nice people and I am enjoying your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like an amazing place to sail! I have a Macgregor and wondered what cruising speed you get with a 90HP engine? I have a 50 HP and was looking at upgrading
What speed to you get with your 50hp? What conditions are needed to reach that speed? How much more gas does it use to cruise at top speed? I am getting a Mac26x with 50hp 4 stroke Evindrude and wondering what I can expect for an early morning calm swells trip over to Catalina Island in Southern California.
Hey guys. Just a question. Do you know where exactly you got your dinghy? Maybe a link? Can’t seem to find any for the price point you guys mention here
We got it off eBay. But that was years ago so I’m not sure that anything like that would still be available. It was a hydroforce or something like that if I remember right.
Sailing the Free life May I inquire about the price. Been looking at the Tattoo 22 a new company run by the MacGregor designers daughter. It's a smaller version of the 26. Going to get a Mac (Tattoo) just not sure which model I can afford. Is your boat still for sale?
We have sold the boat. I just saw that there was some comments I missed till now. We are going to be looking for a new boat we will be listing our house for sale soon and have bought a camper van to travel the country and take time to find a boat as well as explore. The Mac def has its limitations. I would not buy a Mac unless it was protected coastal cruising. With option to get off the water and to an anchorage within a couple hours Incase something unexpected blows in. If you can afford to buy a fixed keel, pay for a slip for the summer the storage for the winter and the relaunch again the following summer and live close to the water you enjoy sailing on then I would say a fixed keel boat is certainly the way to go. If you can’t or don’t want to spend the money then you looking for a trailer sailor and if that’s what you need then the Mac is a boat you definitely going to want to have a look at.
Sailing the Free life that's great. I wasn't aware that these distances were possible on a sail boat. Was this due to the engine assistance or am I just uneducated about sailing distance possible in a day? I only recently found out about the Macgregor 26. Looks like a great way to get around. Thanks for replying
for us that day we did use the engine a fair bit at high speeds so we could get some km behind us. For a ocean going sailboat with say 20 knots of wind most 40ft boats would be able to maintain 7 knots or more. So in a 10 hour period 70 nautical miles would be easily obtained. We hope to post some video of our trip from Sandiago to Cabo mexico on a friend's boat. In that vid we will show distance travelled per day a little more.
Thanks a lot for replying. I have fantasies about sailing around the Mediterranean in retirement and the slow pace of sail boats does put me off a little. The Macgregor certainly seems to do a great job of crossing over both bounds. Best of both worlds especially with that lifting keel. French canals become a possibility.
15 years ago my mechanics instructor said" don't put your fingers anywhere you wouldn't put your D*ck. I took that to heart and 15 years in the trade still have all my fingers. Hate to lose a pinky finger by a crab haha.
my grandfather never lost a finger, he showed me, grab it from behind , at the same time get a grip on one of the rear legs as well using the same hand ( you only need one hand), there was never any danger, some of them were huge, the whole dinghy was full... enjoyed your video - have a nice one
Most Beautiful Fjord in THE WORLD - Princess Louisa Inlet, eeehhh, I respectfully disagree, plenty others out there just as nice and nicer :) Surprised no video of the beaches in the area, you passed quite a few on your way there and back.
We had heard it many places that it was the most beautiful one... but so far it is the only one we've visited, so we have to agree :) We didn't take time to explore on our way up/down Jervis Inlet, just in lieu of time. Maybe next time!
what a tour! Thanks for sharing
Another great video! The McGregor is impressing me!
Beautiful video! Greetings from Dubai.

Just saw the last one already talked about it. ( Old Age)
glad to see your back!

When you are motoring did you remove the water ballast?
yes we did
Excuse my ignorance but was that 110kms in one day?
Ya it was about 110km

Grab a crab with your hand

Why bother with all that trouble for crabs, just have your wife not wash for a week.
When you are motoring did you remove the water ballast?
curb appeal we did . When it's calm seas it's fine . If there's waves then we always leave water ballast in.
The manual says you should have water ballast in for both motoring and sailing. But yea for as calm as it was here, no worries.
