    Greetings from BC. Do this kind of boating all the time. Here’s a tip- pay for the floating rope for your shore tie. Loop it to something on shore like a tree. Lots of the spots up there have steel rings on the rock. Yes even that remote. Single point is fine. When you’re done you should be able to untie from your boat and pull it all in from that same spot, with no need to go to shore when you leave. Then all you need to do is break your anchor and you’re golden.

    A couple equally adventurous and equally willing to sacrifice and labor to achieve the next adventure is not only beautiful to watch but extremely rare. The fact that you found each other is a miracle. Most people are, myself included, fortunate to find a genuine good loving companion, but lacking the constant calls to explore. I hope you both thank the forces that be for guiding one another to each other. I haven't watched a video in a while. Honestly, I think since y'all were on the trawler in Fla. Tula? I am happy to see life is providing the means to continue smiling instead of life eventually putting out the youthful fire inside. I was fortunate enough to travel from 18 to 29 before starting a family. Including a trip up the inside passage from Seattle to Sitka on a commercial salmon trawler. Basically got paid to explore sunny southeast. That was actually my last real seat of my pants, no specific plans adventure. Took a bus from Fla to Seattle and somehow got on a salmon boat with no experience. That's unheard of. It was a blast. I hope you both continue this until you decide to finish, whenever that may be. Cheers, family man in Florida.

    I have cruised that area with a marginal depth sound. We just used a sounding line which is just a thin line with the weight on the end and I’m not tired every 6 feet to a great way to tell how deep you are. That’s exactly how they all ships used to do it.

    Guys, You can buy a $40 to $100 fish locator/depth finder and use it when not going full speed by mounting the transducer on a tube that you can lash or clamp to the rail. There are alkaline battery and 12v options.

      This guide is a must have as depths in a lot of these inlets can reach depths of up to 1200 ft within a boat’s length from the shore. Also the tides around here can produce extreme currents and in some places rapids. Knowing this and along with the willewa’s there is a lot to know here to stay safe. ☮️

    What a lovely place. I am not really into those Arctic waters at all, but it sure is beautiful. You could buy a handheld depth meter, as the ones divers use. SV Delos used such a thing for years, actually going ahead in the dinghy often, before they sailed into very shallow places, and they cost very little. Probably not much more, than you would burn off in diesel in that boat in a couple of days anyway, just to get some perspective.

    It's been stated so many times already but it's absolutely stunning and gorgeous up there. Being able to get out into those remote spots and just take it all in at your own pace has to be an amazing feeling. Thank you so much for taking the time to film, document and share it all with us. Whoever ends up with Mountain Mist is getting an amazing vessel with decades of life left in her thanks to you two.
    I hope everyone has a Happy Easter and if that's not your thing I hope you have a great weekend but I can't help but say maybe you should look into making it your thing.
    Finding something you can believe in that is bigger than yourself that provides you with a healthy moral compass and genuine care for others is never a bad thing.
    Today's world proves now more than ever that Religion has been and is a positive influence no matter how some may try to gaslight you into believing it isn't.

    I live within half a day's slow sail of Desolation Sound.
    If you want to cruise in this part of the world, you need some accurate means of measuring water depth to at least 10m or thirty feet. YOU DON'T NEED A DEPTH SOUNDER. You do need something that will serve as a lead line. A large shackle tied to a length of cord will do fine until you can get a proper sounding lead. Total cost is nil, and having it may save your vessel and even conceivably your life.
    Stitch bits of marline or seine twine into the line at 1 metre intervals. (Except in the US, chart depths around the world are marked in metres.) Toss it over the side and feed out the line, feeling the weight pulling it down. You'll feel when it stops pulling. If in doubt, bounce it a bit. Now retrieve the line, counting the marks as you go.
    How hard was that? Now you accurately know the depth of water at a given position and time.

  • @cartertanya1258
    @cartertanya1258 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, I noticed your anchor is equipped with a snatch line hole . It would be a really good idea to use it. If you get hooked into a rock , your loose your anchor. So please put a shackle through hole and run a line with Chain . Zip tie to anchor chain or run a coil on deck . If you get stuck ,then run out chain , run round back of anchor and pull on rope ,snapping the zip ties and allowing you to pull anchor backwards to release it . Hope this is useful to you.

    Ok, to be fair, no radar is doable, but in the Pacific Northwest, you REALLY need a depth finder. Rocks can spire up from depth and you won't know w/o a depth finder. You can get by with a relatively inexpensive easy mount fish finder as well, but a dedicated depth finder would be the best option. Other than that, awesome video, and welcome to the PNW, land of liquid sunshine.
