Thanks for the videos! That looks like an adventure we will be having to take in the near future. I normally use a Luhr Jensen Pink Lady diver when trolling for salmon. They work well! Just run a flasher behind them and then a hootchie, Coyote Spoon or a cut plug herring. When a fish hits the bait they trip and you don't have any resistance from the diver. Troll at around 2 knots....
Really cruising along fast at 17:20 with your 90 hp engine. Nice going through Malibu Rapids at slack at 17:45. Last part of video is nice, much better than pt1. Thanks for sharing.
I am sure the locals would be the best source of advice for fishing in the area, but you seem to be trolling very slowly, a faster troll would probably deter the dog fish and attract more bites from salmon and trout. It looks like a fantastic place, you could spend years traveling around it all. Looking forward to more videos.
If you didn't like oysters like that , try after you cook them till they open then put a little butter, garlic hot sauce, pepper, small piece of bree cheese ,then broil them till the cheese melts ." Great Video Guys ! Yes, those Dogfish are a nuisance.. catch more on Bait, than just on a Spoon or Plug. Try casting something with 'Pink or White, or both ! And, Yes.. a Down Rigger would help.. and stay at 40' or so.. seems to be a Prime Depth !
With a 90 hp outboard you have a large window around slack tide. Try it with an 8 hp inboard diesel. Not so much. It sure is a beautiful spot up there. I hope to go back again soon.
Awesome videos! How much of your journey was pushing the limits of what you were comfortable with? How many years / hours of experience would you say you need to go out and enjoy yourselves safely on a multi -day trip? I love the Sunshine Coast but have never seen it this way!!!
Hey Kyle. We felt like we were pushing the limits only once . And probably more experienced sailors would have done better and not thought as much of it. If we were to be in the same conditions again i will reef earlier and we understand the effects of larger waves on the boat now so we would feel a little more confident.We had done quite a few trips to lakes with the boat before we took it to the coast. I would say that anyone who can control there boat reasonably well in 20 knot winds on inland lakes should not have a problem sailing the coast so long as they watch the weather forcasts and play it safe. Do your research on the tides and talk to the locals when possible. We were a bit intimidated for the first couple days but realized that the sunshine coast has great anchorages and we could get from one to the next pretty easily.
Now that you're comfortable with the coast you'll have to make it north to Alaska via the Yukon for the Northern Mac roundup. Put three Macs in Glacier Bay last year. Also lots of great lake sailing in YT as well. If unsure of what that is do a search on the Mac owners forum.
Jurgen Billhofer I got it at canadian tire blowout store sale for 40$ . Then just made the Gimbals. Check out the mods video and you can see how we made it. Or you can just buy our boat! Haha.

André Elvas there is alot of trash talk about the mac but alot of people miss the point. The first question that needs to be asked is are these people who talk trash comparing them to a trailerable boat? They do not sail as good as a catalina 30 or any other boat with a non removable ballast. But we felt safe enough touring up and down the coast. I haven't seen a trailer sailor that is more functional for us than a macgregor. And the bottom line is that we wouldn't have learned to sail if we had to fly to the coast and keep a boat in a marina , just to expensive to justify. However we do have plans to live aboard and after learning to sail on sea weasel it is now up for sale so we can persue father off destinations.Thanks for checking us out.
So good to hear this! I live in Brazil, and intend to buy one of those. There are only 5 in my country. I found a MAC26, and i think we would be great partners. I love sailing...and i am a surfer and diver (hunter) fisherman, as well...So, i think , based in what i saw, it gots an amazing inside space for a 26 feet boat, and can take you out with a motor on really fast, and it sails confotably. Some say it is a very "savage"sailing, couse it adheres a lot! How did you guys felt sailing on the sea with it? Thanks again!

So, how were the oysters. We are from Louisiana and raw oysters and charbroiled oysters are pretty damned good.
We ate them but they wouldn't be our first choice in sea food.. we liked the crab alot more. But the oysters are easy to get so that's a plus.
