I just cant believe how insane the sound of the solo that guthrie played is just fits everything so righteously i can see so many images and feel so many things i genuinely think this is one of the best things ive ever heard
This a is a great video showing Guthrie's command of the instrument to perform - music. Ben Poole plays well and is very accomplished but Guthrie just adds to the changes by really beautifully selected notes matched by blinding modern technique that moves the blues on. Like it or loathe it you can't deny he's very good as a musician not just a guitar player.
It's worth noting that Guthrie got the classic Shine On descending progression to improvise over, rather than just the same couple of chords, thus opening his playing to more musical possibilities. I'd have loved to hear Ben improvise over that.
@@DaveDexterMusic fair enough, a good point. Guthrie is I believe, a significantly versed player who has written his own material over some extremely challenging passages. He’s much more than a player, he’s an extremely adept composer for guitar and beyond.
for sure. When the first guy started playing I thought..."wow, he's pretty damn good." Then Govan slowly creeps in, puts out his fire and steals the show without even trying. :)
Ben Poole does well, he just seems to get a little too excited and gets going too fast for himself, if he slowed down a little it would be spot on. I'm sure Guthrie being there doesn't really help his nerves.
hahaha.... lol lol funny moment in 2:31 ... I think Guthrie realized that Ben was too long and then when he wanted to hit a solo... he just let Ben finished ...
i think people shud get over the fact that today there guitarists that alot better technically and musically then guitarists back in the day. its a fact that people will become better at guitar as time passes by, jimi and van halen etc are good but they cant touch modern guitarists of today but without them maybe these modern guitarists would not exist cant really hold on to the past, people needa move on as well as understand what the past has done today
Im just thrilled to see 2 amazing players choosing to jam over the greatest, David Gilmour. It took these 2 about 500 notes to get me to feel what Gilmour makes me feel in 5.
this is technical wizardry from both players but as stated a lot before there is no emotional connection which, though i dont know much about ben poole i know exists in Guthrie's work like erotic cakes and in the aristosrats, and i know that Guthrie really can play beautiful emotional music with his technical skill still there :)
Guthrie is showing the other guy that you can play a single note and make it sound beautiful and develop gradually. But he is not getting that point and just playing fast.
James Wellington i guess what i have to say is: that was 7 months ago and upon seeing the video again i dissagree completely with my past self! he is really good!
Javier Serrano I'm inclined to agree with your former self lol. He wasn't even trying to hit chord tones, follow the music or essentially innovate in my humble opinion. To my ear Guthrie was attempting to follow the context of the music as always.
Well done Ben. Considering the age gap and Guthrie's bloodline to the Christ Almighty, you kept up very well!
😭😭
I just cant believe how insane the sound of the solo that guthrie played is just fits everything so righteously i can see so many images and feel so many things i genuinely think this is one of the best things ive ever heard
Shine on, you crazy axeman!!
You two need to jam more like this! Nothing but fantastic could be the result!

Guthrie Govan is a genius. Really.. who would bend harmonics like that... improving? He truly is the most creative musician on this earth.
amazing... both of them.
so proud of guthrie
It sucks to be the other guy in any video featuring Guthrie.
+shortwhitejew Yeah, even though Ben's really good. Guthrie's always amazing, but here he seems to have brought it to an even higher level here!
for sure. When the first guy started playing I thought..."wow, he's pretty damn good." Then Govan slowly creeps in, puts out his fire and steals the show without even trying. :)
Ben is very young and he played extremely well.
Except if you´re Ron Thal...
@@natjes6017 guthrie govan is better than ron thal in every aspect possible.
the shine on de pink floyd yeahhh excellent j'adore , super jam en feeling
this sounds FUCKING AMAZING real playing
At around 2:20 i got so much joy out of just seeing Guthrie smiling and enjoying communicating and doing his thing. Wow man.
2:38 O Ben não deixou o Guthrie tocar o lick monstro que estava em sua mente... Meu Deus, até hoje queria ter escutado aquilo.
Ben's got great feel
Gutted i missed ben at download this weekend!
GG is the man!
this is SICKKKKKK...
2:31 is the equivalent when you say a joke to escape an embarrasing moment
frykin amazing
WOW!!!
There is a beer next to Guthrie! He drinks which means he IS human after all! There is hope for everyone!
sounds like Shine on you crazy diamond
Yes it's Shine on you crazy diamond's chord progression!
@thegreatgarry aha Guthrie is just lookin at him like " finished?"

Ben Poole does well, he just seems to get a little too excited and gets going too fast for himself, if he slowed down a little it would be spot on. I'm sure Guthrie being there doesn't really help his nerves.
wow all the hating comments...can any of the peeps who made those comments even play a tenth of what these dudes can :()
hahaha.... lol lol
funny moment in 2:31 ...
I think Guthrie realized that Ben was too long and then when he wanted to hit a solo... he just let Ben finished ...
That tone stinks of the DUMBLE amp thing , superb guys
Ben plays a lot like Guthrie, it was pretty surprising to see him keep up.
i think people shud get over the fact that today there guitarists that alot better technically and musically then guitarists back in the day.

relevant enough for you to take your time to comment
Ben "Choppy Chops" Poole and Githrie "Greasy Fingers" Govan.
It was just like you were riding a bike heads-on with a massive truck. No matter how fast you go, you would be doomed at the end.
2:59 "it's about to go downn" kevin hart voice. haa
Im just thrilled to see 2 amazing players choosing to jam over the greatest, David Gilmour. It took these 2 about 500 notes to get me to feel what Gilmour makes me feel in 5.
Ben seems to be in a hurry ^^ But he is an awsome player with feel :)
am i the only one hearing ner ner in the back of my head?
Ben dont cry please😂

@oscarsstuff =s
Hahaha GG is the only one!
@Pre00 lol van halen? really? hahaha
Guthrie is showing the other guy that you can play a single note and make it sound beautiful and develop gradually. But he is not getting that point and just playing fast.
Hi im ben poole and i feel really bad about myself cause guthrie is a god :( lol
watch his right hand next time..
AWESOME, but jeff beck is king at wammy stuff
David Gilmour doesn't approve)
yeah, ben takes lessons off guthrie..
ben plays way too much, he doesn't let his playing breath
ben poole = blah blah blah....
his phrasing was really nice. idk what youre talking about
He is a fantastic player, technically and musically! Don't know what you've been injecting into yourself but you best cut down on it...
James Wellington i guess what i have to say is: that was 7 months ago and upon seeing the video again i dissagree completely with my past self! he is really good!
Javier Serrano Great man! :)
Javier Serrano I'm inclined to agree with your former self lol. He wasn't even trying to hit chord tones, follow the music or essentially innovate in my humble opinion. To my ear Guthrie was attempting to follow the context of the music as always.
If you look he rests his little finger over the pickups like a bottleneck guitar player would do.
Technically, but not emotionally.
Дмитрий Азнауров get a life fucktard
@@petezah4597 Well he stated an opinion and it is perfectly acceptable in 21. century . Get out of your cave .
