This is just sad, because shes such a nice lady. In a way I consider myself lucky, after 14 years in the military, a combat tour, online gaming since the Wild West days of the 1990's, and 5 years of GTA Online, I expect the absolute worst from people and I am never disappointed. my 12 yr old son came to me one day a couple years ago just gushing about grandma shirley. she made him so happy and inspired him to try harder at playing games. he's always been a little slower learning because his dad and older brother don't share games or help him to learn, so he gets easily frustrated and angry. but grandma shirley has helped spark a new light and he wants to enjoy games like she does. he can start playing and then gets sidetracked and starts making up commentary and stories about the people in the game he's playing. he makes his own world while playing and it makes him happy. who am i do destroy that when i'm a gamer mother and play games out of pure enjoyment of the scenery, story, and characters.
My mom also plays alot of games for fun and my mom and brother helps me grow to having fun playing and such and im really happy that someone is out there helping their son do what he wants to do! P.S If I have my own setup, can me and your son play together?

If your son enjoys creating worlds and stories, he might enjoy the table top game of dungeons and dragons. For those who don't know, D&D is the predecessor to modern role playing game style video games. I would just advise finding a group of creative friends who enjoy telling a fun story together.
He seems like I was, maybe single player games are more his speed. Skyrim is obviously great, the destiny series CAN be multiplayer but it’s optional to even be online. And the recently released Hogwarts legacy is really fun

I love Skyrim grandma, I think she's one of the coolest people in gaming community and conveys what gaming used to be about before it became a billion dollar industry. That said, I'm not subscribed to her channel for the sole reason that her content is not up my alley. Watching streamers in general is not my thing, but in case of Shirley her contents are just not that exciting to me. I think people subscribe with the mentality of "why not", but don't realize that as a content creator gets more and more subscribers, YouTubing more and more becomes a job rather than hobby whether intentional or not. I think this is toxic especially for someone like Shirley who just wants to have fun because she now feels the obligation to keep providing content that evidently most of her near million "subscribers" are not even interested in watching. I lover her attitude towards gaming and I wish for nothing but the best for her, but I feel she'd be better off as a small streamer imho. But the kids who are trash talking her can just go to hell.

When I was playing Dark Age of Camelot, I had a guildmate named Biff. After a few months of play, I found out he was a 76 year old mani in Florida. He was the best man in my guild. He was always there for events, always had a kind word for everyone, and he once spent days helping me gather materials to cap off my crafting. Games are for everybody. :-)

One of the games I currently play has RPrs who are using games to pad out all thir newly found free time during this pandemic, and they range all ages, backgrounds and genders. I played Ark survival with an 86 year old lady while playing with her, she molded me into the person I am today. This is disheartening to see, I wish Shirley the best and hope her condition improves.
I played with an elderly woman who helped guide me through a trial with a guild of hers in ESO a year or so ago. She still plays regularly and helps others.
These kind of comments help remind me that while the community around gaming can be hurtful and obnoxious, but it can also be a great place to meet new people who you may never have met otherwise.

As I've mentioned earlier on a comment here, these toxic people are the other side of the scale that is necessary (IMHO) for the Internet. They keep the balance when SJWs or other Karens get a little too cocky or demanding, and it provides us entertainment for a while. But when they get overboard, like in this scenario, we then band together, regardless of sides, preferences, or even differences, just to shut down those abusers. This is an ecosystem that keeps itself in check, and won't let one side overpower the other. A "necessary evil" as my mom used to called it, that makes us remember and fight for what is right and morally good.

I love that your a gamer. I always tried to get my grandma to play games, I loved seeing her experience something new that she never got to experience before mainly due to tech limitations. You know, it just occurred to me that once TES6 is out and mods are being made, someone is going to make a sex mod and you're going to be able to sex up a realistic and detailed NPC version of that sweet old grandma. Mods like FlowerGirls for Skyrim allow you to have graphic sex with literally anyone pretty much any time, so I assume that trend will continue.. Anyway, she seems delightful.
My mom got me into gaming and we've played since the NES (RPG's were her thing too). She was born in 1945 and played until her last day. Those that mess with the older gaming community really just don't get it.

An old lady I thought was Skyrim grandma but wasn’t because I asked Shirley if it was here, but was 64 years old gave me 15 crown experience scrolls (boost exp by 50%) in eso and invited me to the guild and let me scroll through the guild bank and take what I wanted, that was a couple months ago and I am still amazed at the generosity.

I play a game called Rising Storm 2 and we had a 60 year old guy play with us occasionally in one of our servers. Guy played pretty damn well and I was impressed especially since my 72 year old grandfather is a key tapping kind of guy, lmao (ironically the game is set in Vietnam but my grandfather was a veteran in the war so he finds it interesting but definitely couldn’t play it.)

As a 3rd generation gamer, this is truly heartbreaking. My grandma was a gamer too. I can still remember how happy she was when she upgraded her original NES to a Nintendo 64. She she would fall asleep in recliner playing Zelda, just nodded out with the controller in her hand, and Link running around in circles on the screen. She burned the "quit/try again" screen for Tetrisphere, her favorite game, into 3 different TVs. You could still see it even if the TV was off. Needless to say, Grandma was a gamer! Sadly, she passed away several years ago. So for me, this is personal! I wanna punch a troll in the face right about now. This sweet old lady deserves better from the community she's been a part of since before these little shit sticks' parents were even born. Wuhsah! Now my blood pressure's up. Grandma Skyrim, if you're reading this, our hearts go out to you. We hope to see you grace us with you presence once again. My mother is 90 years old (though she never learned computers and has no interest in games outside crossword and pencil puzzles) and is sharp and wise as ever. At 51, I still call her to ask cooking and nutrition questions among other things. I can't imagine how she would be if someone said such ugly things to her. Heartbroken. She would probably wilt and die like a beautiful flower ground under a callous boot heel.

my 12 yr old son came to me one day a couple years ago just gushing about grandma shirley. she made him so happy and inspired him to try harder at playing games. he's always been a little slower learning because his dad and older brother don't share games or help him to learn, so he gets easily frustrated and angry. but grandma shirley has helped spark a new light and he wants to enjoy games like she does. he can start playing and then gets sidetracked and starts making up commentary and stories about the people in the game he's playing. he makes his own world while playing and it makes him happy. who am i do destroy that when i'm a gamer mother and play games out of pure enjoyment of the scenery, story, and characters.
My mom also plays alot of games for fun and my mom and brother helps me grow to having fun playing and such and im really happy that someone is out there helping their son do what he wants to do!
P.S If I have my own setup, can me and your son play together?

If your son enjoys creating worlds and stories, he might enjoy the table top game of dungeons and dragons. For those who don't know, D&D is the predecessor to modern role playing game style video games. I would just advise finding a group of creative friends who enjoy telling a fun story together.
He seems like I was, maybe single player games are more his speed. Skyrim is obviously great, the destiny series CAN be multiplayer but it’s optional to even be online. And the recently released Hogwarts legacy is really fun

I love Skyrim grandma, I think she's one of the coolest people in gaming community and conveys what gaming used to be about before it became a billion dollar industry.
That said, I'm not subscribed to her channel for the sole reason that her content is not up my alley. Watching streamers in general is not my thing, but in case of Shirley her contents are just not that exciting to me. I think people subscribe with the mentality of "why not", but don't realize that as a content creator gets more and more subscribers, YouTubing more and more becomes a job rather than hobby whether intentional or not. I think this is toxic especially for someone like Shirley who just wants to have fun because she now feels the obligation to keep providing content that evidently most of her near million "subscribers" are not even interested in watching.
I lover her attitude towards gaming and I wish for nothing but the best for her, but I feel she'd be better off as a small streamer imho.
But the kids who are trash talking her can just go to hell.

When I was playing Dark Age of Camelot, I had a guildmate named Biff. After a few months of play, I found out he was a 76 year old mani in Florida.
He was the best man in my guild. He was always there for events, always had a kind word for everyone, and he once spent days helping me gather materials to cap off my crafting.

I played with an elderly woman who helped guide me through a trial with a guild of hers in ESO a year or so ago. She still plays regularly and helps others.
These kind of comments help remind me that while the community around gaming can be hurtful and obnoxious, but it can also be a great place to meet new people who you may never have met otherwise.
I've played with a couple older people, but sadly no exceptional stories. They're usually kinda shitty at what they're playing but are good company.

The internet is a toxic place, but it’s good to know that when there is a true injustice, people will band together to make things better.
As I've mentioned earlier on a comment here, these toxic people are the other side of the scale that is necessary (IMHO) for the Internet. They keep the balance when SJWs or other Karens get a little too cocky or demanding, and it provides us entertainment for a while. But when they get overboard, like in this scenario, we then band together, regardless of sides, preferences, or even differences, just to shut down those abusers. This is an ecosystem that keeps itself in check, and won't let one side overpower the other. A "necessary evil" as my mom used to called it, that makes us remember and fight for what is right and morally good.

You know, it just occurred to me that once TES6 is out and mods are being made, someone is going to make a sex mod and you're going to be able to sex up a realistic and detailed NPC version of that sweet old grandma. Mods like FlowerGirls for Skyrim allow you to have graphic sex with literally anyone pretty much any time, so I assume that trend will continue..

An old lady I thought was Skyrim grandma but wasn’t because I asked Shirley if it was here, but was 64 years old gave me 15 crown experience scrolls (boost exp by 50%) in eso and invited me to the guild and let me scroll through the guild bank and take what I wanted, that was a couple months ago and I am still amazed at the generosity.
of course , the guy is so old that he wont run everywere . less reactive is the best for a tank as long as he can still move a little and swith aggro ^^
I play a game called Rising Storm 2 and we had a 60 year old guy play with us occasionally in one of our servers. Guy played pretty damn well and I was impressed especially since my 72 year old grandfather is a key tapping kind of guy, lmao (ironically the game is set in Vietnam but my grandfather was a veteran in the war so he finds it interesting but definitely couldn’t play it.)

As a 3rd generation gamer, this is truly heartbreaking. My grandma was a gamer too. I can still remember how happy she was when she upgraded her original NES to a Nintendo 64. She she would fall asleep in recliner playing Zelda, just nodded out with the controller in her hand, and Link running around in circles on the screen. She burned the "quit/try again" screen for Tetrisphere, her favorite game, into 3 different TVs. You could still see it even if the TV was off. Needless to say, Grandma was a gamer! Sadly, she passed away several years ago. So for me, this is personal! I wanna punch a troll in the face right about now. This sweet old lady deserves better from the community she's been a part of since before these little shit sticks' parents were even born. Wuhsah! Now my blood pressure's up. Grandma Skyrim, if you're reading this, our hearts go out to you. We hope to see you grace us with you presence once again. But more importantly, keep doing what you love, to hell with what anyone else thinks. When I'm done with this, I will go to my mom's, crank up her Xbox and her copy of Skyrim, and Dragon Shout with the grey beards in your honor. Love and light!

My mother is 90 years old (though she never learned computers and has no interest in games outside crossword and pencil puzzles) and is sharp and wise as ever. At 51, I still call her to ask cooking and nutrition questions among other things.
I can't imagine how she would be if someone said such ugly things to her. Heartbroken. She would probably wilt and die like a beautiful flower ground under a callous boot heel.
