Waylon said that if Buddy Holly had lived, he would have been halfway between Bob Seger and Neil Diamond. I’m not sure what that means but it sounds good.
And Waylon was forever haunted by joking with Buddy, in response to Buddy saying he hoped Waylon's behind froze on the bus, that he in turn hoped Buddy's plane crashed.
Waylon..........the last person to talk to Buddy............then held the conversation privately until many years later....... just two rockers joking around..well we all know what happened
To me they are just two different things entirely. But I cannot disagree with the statement that there is no better version of "Peggy Sue" than the one by the man who created it: BUDDY HOLLY. Honestly, I can't think of even one song that Buddy wrote where there is a cover that is better. Now in reverse, there are great covers that Buddy did of others' songs where he clearly didn't beat the original either. A GREAT example to me is comparing "(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care" by Elvis Presley as featured in the movie "Jailhouse Rock". I always loved the scene of Elvis performing with his band by the pool (while wearing a sweater?!!) but that is not the important part. If you pay attention to Scotty Moore on guitar his sunglasses keep appearing and reappearing throughout the song! But I digress....Buddy does a super cool version of the song and in his hands it becomes something else entirely which I really love. I don't really like comparing one artist to another when they are of that caliber. I can say though with absolute conviction I have never heard anyone cover Buddy better than Waylon. Linda Ronstadt also did excellent Buddy Holly covers.
@@jdmyerscountry if it wasn't for a new sleeping bag, and a need for a flu shot, Waylon would have been killed too. I sometimes wonder, how often fate has kept me alive.
Buddy Holly and Waylon Jennings will never die their music will live forever
The Letterman Band members are thinking, "DAMN!" I'm up here playing PEGGY SUE with Waylon!
Could you imagine if Buddy Holly was there singing with him?? RIP to Waylon and Buddy. 💕🎸🎤

Forever Live The Hoss. I read Waylon's biography a few years back and that tragedy really marked him.
I guess it would/ did....even Letterman got the cue not to rehash all the old days too much

So, Waylon gave up his seat on the plane for the Big Bopper the night the stars crashed with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens.
