      Good question! This is a bit tricky to answer via a message, but perhaps watching a few videos may help your case:
      In this playlist, you will learn how to get into good posture both needed for proper standing posture as well as good sitting posture: th-cam.com/video/1jdvJrbM2xI/w-d-xo.html
      In particular, this is the video explains best how to get into good standing posture, which of course is needed for walking: th-cam.com/video/-P-9quiCunA/w-d-xo.html
      For those having trouble figuring out how to correct their pelvic/low back alignment, I would encourage you to watch some these videos from this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLmTgnph6MiE9qpO5hgvWUD8uuzQ3emqTn.html. Many people have NO IDEA how to control their pelvis position and videos in this playlist can help train you on how to improve your body awareness to control the position of your pelvis, which will help you prevent over extending your lower back.
      Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Doc, I have heard that we should always have a slight bend in our knees while walking for shock absorption, is it correct? because the style you are talking about wont bend knees when striding, please guide what is best to avoid for knee snd joints injury. Thanks for video! Peace

    • @PerfectingMovement
      @PerfectingMovement  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is a great question. During walking,I think it is OK to straighten the knee fully. The reality is, the second you strike, it should bend. By taking a shorter quicker stride, this will reduce the braking affect and there should not be too much stress on your knee. if you were consciously trying to walk with your knees bent, you may lose the ability to straighten up overtime. in physical therapy, after working with individuals who have had knee surgeries, it is always a major priority for the individual to be able to straighten his/her knee during walking. If walking with a heavy weight on your back, like winter rucking, and one would naturally Walk with their knees bent more, which I feel is OK to accommodate the heavy load. I hope this helps!

  • @yesstube

    A proper / natural walking or running starts with proper / correct posture, which can be achieved only when barefoot. Although both points are explained and demonstrated, it's important to emphasize the latter, as wearing any (particularly conventional) shoes will mean a compromise, possibly a failure.

    Impressive! How would it help a stroke patient?

    • @PerfectingMovement
      @PerfectingMovement  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a good question however tough to answer. I think anything that one could do to help promote symmetry after a stroke would be helpful. Keeping the towel on top of the head, it would help reduce asymmetries. Another great tip would be to walk to the beat of a metronome. Typically I like my patients to walk at 120 steps for a typical speed of walking. Moving faster, a higher cadence is good. If you download a free metronome app, try to walk to the beat of 120 steps per minute. If this is too difficult, obviously go to a slower cadence. A good tip is that if you verbalize the cadence out loud, and then march in place, and then walk, you will be more likely to walk to the beat. Doing this with a towel on top of the head, is a great way to reduce asymmetries. Good luck!

    I noticed that as I've been getting used to xero shoes and avoiding heel strikes, that I seem to be walking, feeling slightly forward. I don't know if I'm actually leaning, or if it just feels that way because of the shift in the placement of the foot. If I am in fact slightly leaning forward, is that a good thing, or not?
    I'm assuming that it's just a natural spin-off of how I'm placing my foot... thinking of the expression "leaning back on one's heels", if we are walking like that it makes "sense" that we are slightly leaned straight-up-and-down or slightly back (?)

    • @PerfectingMovement
      @PerfectingMovement  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You definitely don’t want to feel like you are leaning backwards. You want to feel like you are straight up. Taking the shorter stride will sometimes make you feel like you are leaning forward. Some walking “experts” encourage this forward lean though the center of mass.
      My advice, out the towel in the head, get into good posture, and walk. This is the easiest way to take the thought out of how to walk.
      Hope this helps!!😊

    How to walk correctly with scoliosis when torso makes me walk from side to side?

    • @PerfectingMovement
      @PerfectingMovement  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Even with scoliosis, One should be able to avoid side to side movement. However, Scoliosis will make everything harder for sure. Often, the reason we lurch side to side is secondary to weakness in gluteus medius muscle. I would encourage you to follow “towel on top of the exercise“ described in this video, and consider checking out some of my other videos which focus on buttocks strengthening. The links are in the below comment.

    I am not able to move my arms and shoulders naturally while walking

    • @PerfectingMovement
      @PerfectingMovement  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is very common when people try to get their posture correct. They get "locked in" and do not rotate their pelvis nor have any arm swing.
      Watch this video th-cam.com/video/Wb_IHKOJE2c/w-d-xo.html which will show you how to rotate your pelvis and will lead to a natural and relaxed arm swing.
