Thank you for a great podcast with Dominique. I was surprised you didn't mention TBS, so I want to know if you don't think it's valuable and why. I haven't been able to find a center that uses it that is closer than 8 hours from Cincinnati! Thank you!

@@lakeside23 Thanks for the message. :) We probably could have chatted for hours as we just barely scratched the surface! Yes, trabecular bone score (TBS) is important since it can help people understand their bone quality. Bone density is the actual mineral content of the bone. Bone quality is the structural integrity and microarchitecture of the bone. Those two things combine to create bone strength. A lot of times people only have part of the picture.

I could write a book on this subject, best video I’ve ever seen on TH-cam! At the age of fifty I was diagnosed within 6months time CIDP, MS, THROID DISEASE, FIBROMYALGIA so many diagnoses that I went to Mayo Clinic and they are the ones that added fibromyalgia…needless to say I was devastated, but determined to be MY OWN ADVOCATE (you have to). So many other things have happened in the last 8 years as I turned 58 yesterday. But I’m just going to talk about this subject. We have a history of osteoporosis and osteopenia in my family, as I am petite in size so was my grandmother, and my mom. But my sister has severe scoliosis and is a nurse. That has been a God sent to me going through all this. She suggested I have a bone density test and the sad thing is if you have no family history you cannot be one until you are in your sixty, this is absolutely ridiculous. Women need at least a baseline way before then, but because of my family history I was approved.I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis in both hips and osteopenia in my thoracic. Because of all my other diseases and the fact that I receive IVIG monthly it’s been difficult. I have already failed 3, so I go back in a year to decide besides taking calcium what direction we need to go. Everything that was stated in this video is correct! It must start at childhood with nutrition, vitamins, and information as to why we need to do this. I’m sorry to say doctors do not give us this information. The only thing I have been told is to take my calcium and whatever other medication that I’m praying will help when we find it. But what hurts me the most is that most people and doctors think a pill is the solution to everything! But it’s not, with everything inside of me I am begging listeners to do the things that have been talked about here. In closing I would like to say I was healthy and now my life will never be the same. How awesome this video was Dominique! Blessings, prayers and love 🤩💛

This was awesome! Have osteopenia (67, but diagnosed many years ago). I do yoga 5 day/week and am now walking 2 miles/day at least 5 times /week. But, this made me realize I need to do more. Just since I've increased activity I notice such a huge difference in my flexibility and strength. Aging can be painful and cause a lot of misery. I work with the elderly and see it every day. I want to do everything I can to have the best possible health! Thank you for this motivational, informative discussion.

Multiple MULTIPLE thumbs up for this one!!!! Having gone through 9 compression fractures with my mom, Osteoperosis is NO joke! As you both said, it can take you from being vibrant and active to bedridden in the snap of a finger. My mom was so fragile, that one of her fractures was sustained just by sneezing. I wish this information was out in the public 40 years ago when she was first diagnosed in her 50's. Instead, the last 13 years of her life were filled with 9 Vertiboplasty operations, limited molbility and chronic pain. Go do your bloodwork people and fix your gut/health issues. You do NOT want the dreaded "O." P.S. there's also a link between thyroid medication and Osteoperosis. Apparently the medication depletes Calcium as well:( Thanks so much for doing this one!!!

This is such vital information to know … and I understand some of these replies feeling frustrated because we have been uninformed along the way and now we are 40,50,60 & 70’s … & JUST hearing it .
Keep reading , listening , following podcasts on nutrition , supplements as well as what tests to request … for your own records !!
I have made it clear with my doctor and he’s on board… I want him to follow my wellness and good health …. Not my illness !!!
I have my own medical chart at home … get copies of every single test done . Be your own advocate… dig in and learn . This stuff is so interesting, easy, and vital to feeling and being in the best physical state !!

Great topic, Dominique - week two! Great!

What a great topic. As a lifelong exerciser (dancer, Walker, resistance training, and Pilates) I was shocked to learn I had osteopenia which then turned into osteoporosis. My doctor said “tall, thin, blonde”. Nothing worked to reverse it until I started Prolia infusions, now I am back to osteopenia…hooray! My late mother suffered horribly with numerous fractures that really affected her quality of life. Osteoporosis is no joke. For future subjects it would be really wonderful to have a list of time stamps to be able to quickly reference specific parts of the talk.

This information should be in HS health class, and even through out school systems. It would have to be delivered in such a way and by guest speakers to really drive the info home. Knowing what kids do...diet, exercise and reducing screen time...will affect their future health. Knowing your family history is also very important. Wish I knew what is being taught in my local schools.

You are the best, Dominique. I am so glad you chose osteo health for your 2nd episode. I had to INSIST on getting a bone density test. It is not typically performed until 65 yrs old. Why? That's how system works, but thats "too late". No one ever suggested I should do this test, even though I have a family history. It turned out that at 55 I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, SEVERE in the lumbar area. I was given high dosages of D with calcium. I found out by myself about the magnesium and the K. Why? I shoud have been given this information. As in any field, there are better doctirs than others. I've learned that one must be proactive and learn to advocate for your own health. Thank you, Bone Coach tor your insights and your coaching. Great episode!

When I first showed my mom that my fingers had started to become stiff and painful and she told me I’d have osteoperosis like she does, I decided I was not going to let hereditary genes define my health future. I discovered ways to combat my onset and am happy to share that all my digits are now painless and mobile with no issues. So I agree that we all need to figure out what is really causing our health issues beyond what we are told. Thanks, Dominique!

    Hi Domenique
My mother has osteoporosis and has suffered bone fractures in her back. This podcast has been so informative as I fell recently and broke my shoulder and I’m being referred for a bone density scan given that my mum has O. I now have so much more info from the podcast with Kevin re T scores and to ask for blood tests and follow up with all the other info on diet and supplements and weight bearing exercise. Great podcast and very timely! 👍💕 21.39

Thank you, Dominique. Another wonderful video. I was diagnosed with Osteopenia at 42. I had an early menopause at 38. I am 68 now and last year was diagnosed with Osteoporosis. I was getting bone scans every 5 years, but this time it dipped into osteoporosis. I started to take the drug Alendronate Sodium last Fall to build up my bone density. I do all the things I am supposed to do. I eat from scratch most of the time, eat greens and take protein powder. I take a lot of vitamin C because my urologist told me it helps with UTIs, along with an estrogen cream (which it has). I exercise every day, taking Step classes, Zumba classes, weight bearing classes, Yoga classes and Cycle classes. This hasn't helped at all. So now I am taking a bone drug. :-( But Kevin did mention something I found interesting. I always had stomach issues and did a lot of antacids in the past. But about 20 years ago, I took a blood test for food allergies. It said I was allergic to wheat. At first, I was very good about not eating wheat, but now, I have gotten sick of rice pasta and will occasionally eat real pasta or real pizza. Now I am wondering if I have a malabsorption issue. So, thank you once more. I will be armed with a lot more information to talk to my doctor about at my next annual physical. :-)

Thank you for presenting this subject. My sweet mom had osteoporosis and suffered with many fractures. She was also on fosamax for many years and, as a result broke her femur. There was a mention early on in the presentation that he would talk about medications such as fosamax. I have osteopenia and have improved my diet to include bone building foods although I can’t go the sardines route. I really would like to hear his view of medications such as fosamax. I have refused to take it.

Thank you so much for addressing this topic, Dominique! Anti-hormone therapy after a breast-cancer diagnosis has forced me to focus on my bone health. Question: How effective is rebounding? I was told that rebounding is sensational for increasing bone density and health, but have since read discouraging reports. Now I’ve been told to literally jump (on my floor) several times a day to combat the problem. It’s difficult to know what’s most effective!

Dominque thank you so so very much for taking the interest into this topic..bk in 2010 I was diagnosed with BC took Tamoxifen for 5 years..when I had my first Bone Density test bk in 2018 I was told I had the spine of an 80 year old I was then 60 years old..then I took another BD test in 2021 my numbers improved..I went this past Monday for my 6 month ckup at the Breast Clinic and they did another BD test I went from having Osteopenia to Osteoporosis with my my T-score being
    AP Spin (L1-L4) -2.5, z score -0.7
    Femoral Neck (Left) T-Score -2.2, z score -0.7
    Total Hip (Left) T- Score -1.6, z score -0.4
So you can certainly understand that when I saw your post with this video I was so excited..everything the Bone Coach explained was almost exactly as my oncologists explained..I am very active..I push mow my own yard weekly, watch my diet and very good at taking my boat load of supplements..she believes that I am not absorbing my calcium so she turned down my Vit D3 and upped my calcium and of course i have been on K2 and magnesium and was also recommended to do low bearing exercises with weights..I eat very healthy..I added collagen powder about three years ago but I do not take in any protein other than what I consume in a diet..I have never drank milk but do try to drink almond milk and I eat a lot of zero fat Fage yogurt with blueberries and blackberries…I hope you will
Continue these health videos..I am 65 will be 66 in September so I want to learn as much as I can of ways to stay healthy & fit..

@dee swormstedt I am 65 and have osteoporosis and was offered by my OBGYN back when I was 55 to take prolivia. I didn’t. It has side effects like increases joint pain, gum tissue issues, jaw issues, and increases risk of fractures to name a few. I guess they didn’t have hormone therapy back then. But my sis was on estrogen pills after her hysterectomy and took them for years. She is a year older and she doesn’t have osteo because she was taking hormones. I was told one woman who took prolivia that by the second 6 shot her bones were almost back to a good range. I thought wow that’s amazing. But at what cost to the rest of her body. Take care

Great content. I at 75 have a slight bone loss. I contribute this to being a non smoker, very little alcohol while raising a family and lots of great outdoor exercise while my children were growing up and always some sort of my own time exercise. Top that with growing up on a farm. Those chores always included heavy lifting/work.
