It's wonderful to see it! I have a chainsaw and a weak trimmer. I need to clear through very tick layer of mixture of vines and small trees around the chainlink fence of an abandoned (for 20 years) swimming pool. I need the power of a chainsaw but I know at times the elastic thinner stems will just slide off and escape blade, and I was trying to come up with a solution. It's great to see you not only built the tool, but also proved that it worked well. That's exactly what I am going to do and my search on TH-cam ends right here. Thanks again!

    EXCELLENT!
A brilliant addition to a chainsaw!
For a small amount of money, some material, time and skills, removes the need to buy a hedge trimmer.

I don't care how practical this is, it involves welding, a chainsaw, and cutting bushes. A+ in my book.

.... and its better than a hedge trimmer. Thanks for sharing.

You could drill and bolt each cross piece without welding. But it would be a pain to undo it to use it as a chain saw again. His design is much better in that respect. I'll do mine his way.

You're right, you could just buy a hedge trimmer but they only get you so far. They can only handle so much so fast and up to a certain size. This hack is definitely a really good one. It's faster and more effective then a normal hedge trimmer and you can use it for bigger brush as well as a few other jobs.

The problem with trimmers is the fact that you can only cut up to a certain thickness. Some of my shrubs have thicker limbs. I've been researching how to make an attachment for my grinder. yours is easier and cheaper and will be perfect for my Dewalt 20v chainsaw. Thanks for the idea.

Spróbuj zmniejszyć szczelinę miedzy ostrzem łańcucha a tymi grzebieniowymi zębami. Przystawkę należałoby obrócić o 180 stopni tak żeby ten płaskownik łączący był na zewnatrz. Powinno wtedy efektywniej docinać gałązki. Pozdrawiam.

This would work with an electric, or battery chain saw, too....i have a small gardena cordless chain saw, maybe I'll 'prototype' one of these, and could use it on our corded chainsaw, if it works out....but, the trick is, with the little one, my wife can use it! ;-)

Hedge trimmers don't do a good job pulling branches into the cutter blades and they don't work too well with branches more than about 1/4" (6mm) in diameter. This chain saw mod fixes those problems perefectly. I'm going to make one for my chain saw.

That has real potential for hacking tall hedges and bushes down to size. Standard hedge trimmers cant cope with thick branches and chain saws just pull the branch back which tends to jam or flick off the chain.....I've done it. You end up having to use loppers or a Sawzall which is soooo slow. That hybrid design looks like it would cope with large branches nicely....turn my 3 metre hedge back into a 1.5 metre hedge in one easy pass. I might just make one of them....
