Chain Saw HACK 8 - 3HP Brushcutter

  • Yes, I know ...It's better to go to Home Depot and buy a new... I decided to make it on my own :)
My old brushcutter is very week and I can't use it in proper way. A new brushcutter Makita 3HP is very expensive. It costs above $500 so I thought I try to convert my chainsaw to brushcutter.
I spent about $70 for parts to make it. A bill doesn't seems bad.
A device works surprisingly well. It has a lot of power and it's comfortable to use. It's also easy to put it together.
I am very happy with the new device.

It is a waste of time and money. Creating an effective and inexpensive tool is an achievement. Modifying a costly tool to create a tool that already exists is just a waste of time and money. simply buy the knives that adapt to your weed eater and that's it. the weed eater has more rpm than chain saw.

Hi! 1000 thanks for this vídeo of yours! In ALL it is a top video, since from what you're showing, how you're showing, what you're showing and rhe way it is made the film it self is very very pro!! Now: all the ways you used to make this changing and so on are very pro either, and shows lot of know how, and a very good top quality of craftmanship!! I am amazed!! You come from an incredably good people, mostly hard workers and ingenious! And I take my hat off to salute you and others like you!!! PLEASE keep us posted with other things, as I'm sure I'm not the only one interested. Meanwhile I wish you just the very best!! Greetings from Portugal!!!

Been wondering about this type of build for myself, as the stock lengthens for weed eaters are way too short for anyone over 5foot 4inches tall, killer on my back so need shaft and gear head on longer drive shaft. Thanks for the IDEAS on how to fix my issue. Keep it, great job. Thanks for sharing.

I admire and RESPECT the vision, ingenuity and talent (good hands!) it took to plan and complete this project.
      However.
I work at an outdoor power equipment dealership and service center.
There are off-the-shelf machines\heavy string trimmers, not prohibitively expensive, that will clear this kind of foliage faster, and with less weight.
They cut a broader path, move the cut material out of the way better and are less dangerous if a stump or solid obstacle is encountered in the thick greenery.
      Just pointing that out.
In his shoes (the builder) I might have wanted to try the very same thing.
Some of the first commercially available string trimmers were part of a kit that converted to-and-from a chainsaw power unit.
As I recall, the inventor of the string trimmer USED a chain saw power unit.
More power to you, Made in Poland.

In other countries, I’ve seen in Laos and Thailand, they use a weed eater/ weed wacker with a propeller attachment on the end (where the cutter head would go) and propel canoes with it. 25-40cc little motors running 5-6 people canoes no problem. It can be easily raised in and out of shallow water , and then carry it home when done!

It is nice but the one I made a few years back took a lot less time and effort to make.
I simply removed the weed eater head and plastic shield with the string cutter and replaced the head with an 8" skil saw blade that has a 5/8" arbor.
    Took a few minutes tops.

Dobry Boże, podziwiam, tyle roboty i chęci. Mnie to by się już na etapie projektowania odechciało. Fakt, że czasu nie mam za dużo, a jednak jakimś cudem bym się zmobilizował. To wyszła by z tego jedna wielka niedziałająca prowizorka.

Nice build for sure, BUT, 60 years ago, I saw men , cutting with a scythe, get more material cut quicker with no more effort. Some of the old ways worked very well. No pollution either. Teams of 2 guys used to cut the roadsides.
