I was a medic in a conventional unit assigned to special forces and special operations training sites, in part because I was on an ambulance crew (which these groups didn't have when I was in) and in part because I spoke 2 eastern European languages at the height of the Cold War. I was just a dumb kid awed by these elite soldiers. The main take-away I had was that I was never talked down to. Every place I went, I was treated with respect and taken under the wing of the guys I was providing coverage for, even though they had their own medics that had far superior training to anything I had. The guys were family men, mostly religious, and many enlisted guys had degrees. I never witnessed anything like this video, and I wasn't even a JTAC. The guys I always saw were humble but tough, had a great sense of humor, and their eliteness didn't go their heads. They treated me with respect and didn't need to put on a tough act even though these were the toughest guys I ever met.
You were a medic, that makes a lot of difference as to how you are treated. I was a Navy corpsman (EMT, Medic, advanced training as an O.R.tech) had a few unusual assignments and special duty/unit attachments. Always well treated, though often out ranked, and often having far less experience in a particular situation. Addressed respectfully as doc. most of the time
Its a movie !
@@SonOftheForest Yes, and many folks who never worked in or around special forces may have an impression made on them by a movie.
@@SonOftheForest Therefore it's completely irrelevant whether or not it even comes anywhere close to what a covert ops type scenario might actually look like, or whether it follows any realistic protocals, or how events might actually unfold given these are supposed to be military trained personnel? If that's what you are saying, then every action/adventure film by that standard should play out cartoonishly like 'Ironman', 'Deadpool', 'Diehard' or some other childish/meaningless airheaded blockbuster drivel! The reason some people may be critical , or might have too high expectations, or standards may be because they are discerning individuals with an appreciation for realism, some degree of accuracy, and have a high/normal functioning intellect.
@@nicolasrossi5978 The whole point of these movies is to paint innacurate pictures of the US military.
So many gigs in the clip before they exit the aircraft.
If 02 is required they would have donned their masks much earlier.
If 3000 AGL was the initiation of the pull sequence and he fumbled with his pull handle like that, he would have been down to around 1500-1000 AGL and his Cyprus would have deployed his reserve.
He could have also been the lowest under canopy and the rest of the team would have to fly their canopies to him.
Chances are likely they would land way short of their intended landing zone.
Also, the aircraft cabin would not be pressurized and no casual conversations would be taking place.
Last but not least, the jumpmaster , or lack thereof, did not perform his duties.
Yeah, if it was pressurized there would have been a depressurization event when they opened the door for sure.

@@VenaGT Well then, I’m glad that I could help you. Now you know.
Who was the casting guru in setting up this flick? Dick VanDyke is still going strong. Where was he? 😮
As a veteran. This looks great but… I’ve walked point, and every other squad position… there isn’t any conversation on a march or an Op especially in enemy territory!
You better be too far apart.
There is noise discipline.
Shut up and concentrate on your job!
The issues with this begin 2 seconds into the clip. Serious issues.
I have never done anything like this, but I imagine this conversation would never happen in a million years. Focus on the mission that's it. Too much at stake to talk like a bunch of girls.
Voices Carry!
Amen brother.
It's a movie not a documentary. The conversation is for entertainment and getting to know the characters. That said, you are correct about operating in a combat zone. Thanks for your service.
I have no real world experience in the special ops arena, but something tells me that real tier 1 personnel don’t talk this kind of shit.
i would actually guess they talk alot of shit and have dark humor.... just not when their walking around in enemy territory and loud as shit haha.
Have you seen the recent Navy SEAL vs. UFC TH-cam video battle ? It's very sad!
Everyone talks shit to everyone. Humor is how you make it through.
Only idiots in 3 world banana state armies and in US. talk like that. You are absolutely right. 💯
i love the reassurance right before they jump 🤣 "it's gonna be ok" that totally helps when you're about to jump out of a helicopter at night 🤣
These guys stroll trough enemy terrain talking and joking like they’re in the park. That’s how you get killed.
Yup, plus walking a clearly laid path which would certainly be booby trapped or protected with IEDs. I wouldn't step foot on anything that looked manmade.
yup
None of them seem to have suppressed weapons, either.
@@markdavidson1049 so? MACV SOG mostly didn’t have suppressed weapons either.
@@G4x5daIn this day and age, especially if you're spec ops AND penetrating deep behind enemy lines with a small force, you're going to be suppressed.

What's this "ONLY a SeaBee" nonsense? I did a few floating causeway exercises with the SeaBees in Norfolk, VA and you Construction Battalion boys were NO JOKE. Thank you for your service
This is the Hollywood version. Can have guys walking in the jungle without talking.
Only a SeaBee? Dude, that’s totally bad ass.
This is stupid. A JTAC is no joke, he’s not gonna go into this like a scare middle schooler at his first coed dance.

HALO jumping from a helicopter? The writers must have overlooked the High Altitude part of the acronym
The max altitude is 19,000 ft. I think 12,000ft is the hypoxia threshold
@@greglake603I believe it’s actually 10,000’ for a helo.
Helicopter Alttiutude something plot magic
11,000 max the rest of it all just Hollywood bullshit..
You might… maybe… get enough altitude (certainly not very far into HALO territory - max ceiling of about 20,000) in a Chinook… but you don’t have sliding side doors on a Chinook…
In Vietnam, my platoon was waiting to rendezvous with another platoon walking through the jungle. We could hear them walking [no one was talking] 20 minutes before they reached our position...
I heard it said that the VC could smell US troops a mile off, if not from the smoking, then it was their aftershave? True, or not? Stomping about and talking would certainly not help the 'metal mozzies' biting you! I spoke with an Aussie vet many years ago, who said he and other Aussie troops used to try to avoid such soldiers, so as to avoid the same fate. I guess it comes down to both experience, and common sense, as you don't go hunting for game in the same manner either.
@@spenserclarke5956 Some units had very good noise discipline; others, not so much... I don't think smoking mattered much and I never saw anyone wearing aftershave...

Things you DO say as a Tier 1 Operator:
FINALLY....some goddamn action.
Entertaining movie, but with details that can make even someone who has been out of the Army since 1989 groan. There is one scene with a Blackhawk landing at an LZ. Depending on the camera angle, it switches between a Huey and a Blackhawk. I thought there was an OpFor Huey that made it to the LZ before the Blackhawk and was battling the Blackhawk when it arrived! Took me a while to realize that the Director either didn't know the difference or didn't care.
Reality - they would be kissing JTACs ass. He has the phone to god and his ability to smite anything.

No. He has one of those 5 round compliance mags.

Wow! 😂😂😂
This movie is unwatchable for many reasons, but this takes the cake!
Glad to see all the comments sayin what I was feeling….
You don’t deploy a Shute at 3000 feet in combat situations.. You fly at 3000 feet and and jump out you fall after ten seconds the Shute deploys giving you 26 seconds glide then landing . Its safer and less chance of any enemy being able to get to any landing zone beforehand…
Not on a halo jump
@@emusoda These dudes are not even CLOSE to HALO. They are in a helicopter. You don't use oxygen below 15K and there is ZERO chance that they are running oxygen on a helicopter above 15K.
You definitely don't jump, do you?
@@CrazySC833obviously but they are trying to portray a halo jump in this scene. Even if it’s out of a helicopter which is impossible
@@emusoda Correct .. A helicopter cant Rota effectively above 18,000 feet not enough Oxygen to give lift, Thats why its so difficult too rescue Climbers of Mountains, Helicopter drops are always at 3000 feet , And like someone commented they dont hold oxygen Tanks for breathing, Army , Navy , Airforce, Do not fly any higher than that , If they need to be higher they will use a plane ., Its even very rare to jump out of Helicopters due to the Dangers Drag flow where a Thermal drift will drag you into the Rotors killing you instantly. This is very Bad writing and to be Brutally honest I’m surprised with HOLLYWOKE as they usually have good research teams , I guess they think people are too stupid to notice these days,
Ambling through the jungle loudly shooting the breeze. Thanks for the trailer, YT, this way I won’t waste my money. Act of Valor showed how it should be. Why this movie now?!
Watching this clip insures I'll never waste my time with the whole movie. Damn it's bad.
Russel has let himself go since he stopped throwing phones.
As a Marine, we all know the obvious flaws with the tactics etc, but its also just a movie, not a simulation or documentary. If every movie was tactically spot on, it'd be the most boring shit to watch ever. You really want to watch 4 guys maneuver through the jungle without any kind of dialogue added? No, you wouldnt, unless youre just a tacti-cool douche who tells people they should thank you for your service all the time. Its a movie, just laugh and relax and enjoy it.
Paratrooper here. Ft. Bragg I agree with you 💯
Blah, blah, blah. Do you really think these special ops guys are going to blather away while strolling through the jungle on their way to carryout a mission. I don't think so. Maybe on the plane, but not...oh, never mind. It's just another bad movie with a fat Russel Crowe leading.
Jeez chatty Cathy spec ops
Disappointed as it strayed from realism almost immediately. If it was a sterilized mission, they wouldn't have waited to tell him on the f-in plane for crying out loud. Second, they wouldn't have any doubt about a "rookie operator" because no operator is a rookie due to their intense training. Lastly, they wouldn't just throw in some newbie on a team without integrating him before hand. They're making this movie look like something comparable to if Rambo and Heartbreak Ridge had a baby. Very disappointing. I HATE movies like this. If you're going to go for over the top fictitious b.s., then SELL it as fictitious b.s., not some realistic reflection on operators, because it's not.
I concur very Bad writing, And any Green soldier would not even be on a sterilised mission in the first place,
What does a sterilized mission mean?
It means that the country's markings/flags and soldiers names/ranks, dogtags, anything identifying them, etc. are stripped from the uniform which means that the country facilitating the mission (in this case, the U.S.) would deny their involvement and the men would be on their own if captured. Basically, the nation is, or might, commit war crimes facilitating the mission or in the action itself. So being in sterilized uniforms protects a nation from being brought up on those war crimes as they can claim no connection, or knowledge of the mission and what happened during it.@@KonaLife
Jeez its a movie. Calm down buddy
If they needed oxygen for the jump why didn't they need it the helicopter, helicopter are not pressurised
I hope special ops aren’t this bad.
😂
crowe comes in with a glove on..sits down...no glove...puts glove on.. no one noticed this during editing????
Russell eatin' good.
Funny how they brief the mission as they're doing it.
There wouldn't be only 4 dudes strolling through the woods with a Tier 2 JTAC in an op like this. Especially if they're tier one. There would also be a helluva alot more people back at the TOC if there was somebody missing.
..reminds me of the old Combat TV show where they'd casually stroll on home down the middle of a country road, all bunched up together after the firefight...as if all the Germans had gone home for a supper of weiners and saurkraut......
Vic Morrow. One hell of a combat sergeant. Nice to hear I'm not alone from the early 60s. Oohrah.😊
I guess they're only 'quiet' professionals in garrison? WTF?! You walk and talk less than 2-3 meters apart, stop, have a conversation, then use hand signals no more than 3 meters distance? More than 20+ years of the last war, and Hollywood can't get their shit straight? Hell, a team of 1st time paintball asshat CEOs know enough to shut their pie holes when moving to contact. I'm surprised the director didn't instruct one of the "Deltas" to play the harmonica during the 'dramatic' moments in the scene.
Yeah, maybe they didn't entirely nail the realism, but I found the movie to be entertaining.
Hey Russel...Jenny Craig...Or Ozempic.....please....for your health...
He knows the risks and chooses them any way. Not your place to choose for him. Also it fits the role.

"lose the sir, I work for a living"
Russell Crowe had to drop a massive turd mid-shot so he called in a JTAC specialized in massive bowel ordnance.
LOL. Anyone who have ever been in the shit in any way just can't watch these movies. So you know, this scene have never played out on any SF-SOF-JSOC mission ever. Black Hawk Down was the real deal when placing in comparison the Rangers and Delta Company. Military advisers from A-Z came a recipe of intellectural brilliance
Y'all keep forgetting that this is just a MOVIE, keep this everything real for all movies cause if they do it wouldn't be a movie it would be a film documentary on real life this is just say Hollywood movie pump your brakes slow your roll in each damn popcorn 🍿
Prior services dudes help me out. Did that look and sound like a Helo? If so, do helos typically fly at an altitude where 02 is necessary?
Looks and sounds like a Blackhawk. Typically don't fly at an altitude that would require O2 but it's possible. HALO jump exercises from Blackhawks with O2 masks are done by SOC units occasionally, so I suppose this is feasible. Although I'm not sure why they'd take this approach in the movie.
It isnt common. It's rare as fuck.
You know when they don’t use military advisors. I’ve never heard anyone say “op” instead of operation. They also don’t talk trash like this when you’re about to be on the objective. That shit is for locker room, not the battlefield.
Good time to figure out and plan the mission After you're on the ground and moving in enemy territory!
Tier 1 never talked so much
Russel on meal team 6. 😅
LMAO, brilliant
This is a very fictional way of Hollywood-tising a tactical scenario. Tier 1 operators, LOL, I've got qualifications, but I cannot judge SpecOps. These actors would not get out of the second dry run for a mission the way they're portraying their assigned roles. Final thought, were they bunched up enough for a one grenade to take out most of the team at the end?
My only complaint was the carefree atitude of everyone while a whole team was basically killed cant imagine they would just be watching basketball. They needed that to create the tension for that last scene but it was kinda weird.
You talk Smack in the barracks. You are on your game in the chopper. This isn't how it is.

My ops were just like this. Only we smoked cigarettes.
Saw the movie, good movie.
It amazing how Hollywood has no clue about military and military spec ops. Treating the guy as a boot. Hollywood im assuming does not no but before deployment the team has trained together for so long they can tell if someone has to fart. Even in regular military they train together. When boots replace a fallen they are trained up fast and they do not run ops.
The editing sucks, you see Russell putting on the white glove after he was already shown wearing it. Another dei bomb from Hollywood.
I was not in special forces, but trained with some of them, and this is so wrong. Something tells me the writer and director has no knowledge of real life SOPs.
