  • Find out what it’s like to cruise to Antarctica on the Holland America Oosterdam cruise ship! #antarcrtica #hollandamerica #oosterdam This vlog is from the ship, while in Antarctica. We have seen penguin colonies, whales, icebergs, research stations and so much more! I’ll tell you how it is to be on one of the larger cruise ships that tours Antarctica. How much can you really see with 1,800 other passengers? How close can you get?
So far, we’ve been to Cuverville Island and its Gentoo Penguin Colony, Palmer Research Station, Neumeyer Channel, Paradise Harbor, and Charlotte’s Bay.

Hi, Thanks for the video's. My wife and I (from England) are booked on the cruise for December 2024, in reverse sequence, starting in Buenos Aires. We have learnt a great deal from watching. Many thanks. David and Doreen, (Dee)

Thanks so much for taking the time to give all this information. My Dad and I are booked for this ship and cruise this coming December 2024. I learned a lot about what we need to do and bring from your videos. Thanks again so much.

Thanks Dee, which date is your cruising with HAL. In bucket lists but pending HAL or Silversea.

I took this cruise January of this year, so 4 months ago! HAL was wonderful value for the price. I have not yet taken a Silversea cruise, although I would like to1

Would you take a cruise to Antarctica? Why or why not?

I would LOVE TO! It’s the biggest thing on my bucket list. I’m looking at an expedition cruise or this one. What kind of insurance did you buy for this cruise? I usually purchase the Cancel for any reason insurance with HAL but I don’t know if the emergency evacuation limit is enough. Thank you so much for this video. I really was not expecting that you would get so close to lamd. I thought the ship would be much farther out at sea and you would not get to see penguin colonies. This is a lot better than I expected. In your earlier video you mentioned getting an interior room for free. How did you get a free cabin for this amazing trip? Not stepping on Antarctica doesn’t mean you haven’t been there. I visited glacier Bay on HAL without stepping foot on it!

Hello! My friend and I really want to go but we can't get information on if you get to actually step foot ONTO Antarctica during this cruise? Or at least do the polar bear plunge into water? I'd love to know! Thank you

Any cruise ship over 500 passengers does not get to step on Antarctica nor plunge into the Antarctic waters from the ship. This is due to IAATO and Antarctic treaty regulations. There are plenty of smaller expedition ships that can give you the “step on” Antarctica experience, by landing zodiacs. These cruises are much more expensive, but would provide the experience you are looking for.
