Recessed LED Can Light Burnt Out or Bad Wire Connection? How to fix for Free!

  • Do you have a recessed light fixture with an LED trim that has stopped working? Don't assume that the bulb has gone bad. The led light may also be flickering. One of my recessed can lights kept going out. The LED bulb was fine but there was a loose connection with the wire quick connect. This is very easy and free to fix and it will save you money and time. Sometimes the metal tabs in the quick connect get bent down enough to where they don't make a solid connection and the light goes out with temperature or other fluctuations that could cause it to loose a connection. Using wire nuts or just bending the metal tabs to improve the contact can fix the problem. Don't go buy a new can light trim. Fix what you have and save some money and time. Almost one year later and the connection has stayed strong with no issues! Don't waste money replacing an LED trim when it could just be a loose wire connection! It's still working great!

This seemed to help with one of my lights; however, the other is completely out. It has a very dull flicker, barely even noticeable. Do you think I need to replace that one?

Thank you! Love the father/son dynamic. Having this issue with 1 of 3 led lights in my kitchen. I'll give this a shot

Thank you for posting...had the same problem with the same connectors, used the pen cap trick and solved the problem.

I'm dealing this the same issue with 2 bulbs of 4 on the same switch. They randomly come on and work when they want. I''ll give this a shot before I look to replace them or call someone out.

I am planning to replace my existing recessed lights with Philips Hue smart recessed lighting, I noticed Philips recessed light has TP24 port (female connection) on back of it & when I checked in my recessed can I see the same female connector (TP24), as my existing recessed lights have male TP24 connector. Now I am looking out for solution if there is any connector which can be used to connect between female port of Philips Hue recessed light to the female connector in recessed can (meaning connector to connect two female TP24 port). Hope I explained my problem well. Thanks !

You didnt need to kill the power first?

If the switch is turned off then the power is off to the light. I was a former electrician and I am used to wiring things when they are live. You can turn off the power if you are more comfortable doing it that way.
