This whole concert should be "digitally re-mastered", or whatever they do these days, and released for sale. Why Richard won't do this is beyond me. This concert screams class, talent, & nostalgia.
Sweetie because is for all of us Just imagine how painful would it be for him I lost my sister too and is very painful He lost his sister business partners friend his most valuable and irreplaceable instrumental voice From the day she pass he was never the same The Carpenters were no more 😥
No song ever had a better friend than Karen. Richard was a genious at taking a good song and making it great through his arraingements. Karen and Richard we love you and your music.
Small stage, big sound, huge talent. 36 years later we're still looking at these old vids in awe, wondering and aching at what could have been . . . . . . .
It was amazing to see her blossom so much from her first recording to this show just a few years later. It was like you just blinked and saw this gorgeous woman perfecting her beautiful voice. I loved her speaking in her shows. She always sounds so genuine and loving. It’s a shame what happened with her. Thank goodness we have all these videos and recordings to look back to. Karen’s voice will never be lost!! Thank you Karen for letting us be a part of your life. We all love and miss you!! 💜💜
Karen was truly a treasure!!! You can’t help but just love her!! She just had such a warm, loving and genuine delivery.........I always loved to hear her speak between songs. She definitely had the charisma I’m sorry you left us so soon Karen. You really did deserve so much more.
I'm going to home in on TH-cam on the dashboard monitor while on the roads... heck, I've stopped listening to CDs of todays but this is the comeback worth searching and recovering all those beautiful singers!!! She's my fav back in the late 60s and mid 70s.
I'll never get sick listening to that anglic voice. She's my all time favourite female singer. Richard should release more live performances of her. Heard that he had all her live performances recorded but did not want to release them.
This is one of my favourite songs by the Carpenters. I simply love it. Everything is perfect: the arrangement, the tune, the singing (leading vocals AND especially backing-vocals... terrific!)... they both were so specially gifted... thank God for them! Karen was and Richard is so polite, charmin and lovely... I adore them very much. They were both so polite, charming, and lovable ... no wonder so many people love them to this day. Me too!
They were surely ROCKING Australia! The crowd was going crazy everytime Karen said something and specially when "We've only just begun" started. You can feel their happiness, Karen felt the love and the recoginition that night! Exciting!!!
This woman is an angel, I miss her very much, there will never be another Karen Carpenter, her voice is PURE MAGIC! many new singers will come and go, But Karen's voice will outshine them all for eternity! and I love her outfit it reminds me of Snow Whtie! :) When Karens sings, she takes you into a magical world, her voice is so powerful and moving, the only other singers I can think of who do that are Streisand and Judy Garland!
This is absolutely perfect!!! Richard and his arrangements for Karen's voice is truly an American Treasure that is shared with the world. The music is timeless and Karen's singing is a Treasure bestowed upon this world. This live performance shows that her voice was pure and genuine as her personality was at this time. She didn't need to change anything about her self and I wish we could all go back in time and tell her that so that she still might be here.
Oh Memories! Used to remember my elder sisters playing the vinyl with those big bulky cabinet stereos during the 70's. It makes me sleepy when I'm at the Sala.
Luck you! All I can remember when I was riding around with my folks was my father singing corny old songs from the 1940's and 1950's. You know, songs like "Mares Eat Oats" and "The Elephant and the Bee". I didn't discover The Carpenters until, like, the late 1970's. When my brother learned I liked their music (and especially Karen Carpenter herself), he would forever tease me about it.
Her voice is bird in the paradise! Oh my God! she makes me confortable to believe in love... is she a godness? Diva? she belongs a unique, romantic and perfec voice! So lovely! Ah!
Audiences were so different back then. If it was today and there was a hit like Close to You, as soon as Karen said - you know it all started with Close to You... the audience would all of a sudden start whooping and hollering
The last note she holds beginning at 6:44 is beautiful and the subtlety of her @6:49 is truly what made karen such an amazing vocalist. She was magic. Lastly, Stevie Wonder's version on youtube is great too. really opens up the songs soulful groove potential.
Hurting Each Other was the Carpenters current Australian hit. The week of this concert it was at #9 in the national Go-Set chart and peaked, in June ,at #3.
Unbelieveable! -- I always wondered if there was more to this Aussie concert footage because We've Only Just Begun was missing -- it makes sense that Hurting Each Other would be the last song (it probably had just been released) and We've Only Just Begun would be their encore -- much like it was when I saw them live in concert back in the day... Many MANY thanks for posting this! (Oh when will Richard see the light and release these on DVD?)
In 1972 I was not aware of The Carpenters. I remember 1972, but was not aware of any particular act--unless it was a cartoon on TV, such as Yogi Bear or Flintstones. I think I had heard of the Beatles. Anyway, I would now love to have been in that audience, rather than watching some grainy old video (film?) clip on my iPhone.
This clip was part of an Australian TV special from 1972 called "The Carpenters In Australia" by Australia;s CH7 network. The network never issued an official DVD, but there are two or three bootleg variations available by internet. Google: The Carpenters In Australia DVD and that will bring up the sites.
To correct the description of the video. The venue here is not the Chevron Hotel,Sydney ,but Festival Hall in Melbourne, from the concert of May,24,1972.The clip is from the TV special"The Carpenters in Australia", first broadcast by HSV7 on June,21,1972.
I've seen some fairly recent interviews with Richard. He lost this beautiful woman in his life way too soon. I've heard/read that she protected him from bullies when they were younger. Kinda like a "Big" lead sister.
@YoVaginaStinks1 First of all, I was referring to Richard not releasing the whole concert, not just one song. Second, Richard/Carpenters did not write this song, just performed it.
Karen was much more comfortable singing behind the drums or in a duet. (And, of course, in the studio, too). While she had great confidence in her voice and drumming skill, she simply did not think she was pretty enough to be fronting a band.
@YoVaginaStinks1 Richard Carpenter didn't even write this song. It was written by Gary Geld and Peter Udell in 1965 and many singers recorded this song. I suppose you must be lying about Richard Carpenter maybe all you want to do is hurt people!!!!
Karen was so polite, gracious, and humble. Such a breath of fresh air from today's "of course I deserve this" Divas
She opens heaven’s portals with her voice. Impeccable, seemingly effortless mastery. Richard’s musicianship…peerless.
This whole concert should be "digitally re-mastered", or whatever they do these days, and released for sale. Why Richard won't do this is beyond me. This concert screams class, talent, & nostalgia.
Sweetie because is for all of us
Just imagine how painful would it be for him
I lost my sister too and is very painful
He lost his sister business partners friend his most valuable and irreplaceable instrumental voice
From the day she pass he was never the same
The Carpenters were no more 😥
Her voice is like honey! What an angel!
Everyone on the stage looks and sounds great, but Karen stood out like a shining star, which she will always be.
Effortless Mastery. Nearly divine. Very precious memories indeed!
No song ever had a better friend than Karen. Richard was a genious at taking a good song and making it great through his arraingements. Karen and Richard we love you and your music.
her voice gives me chills it is so beautiful.
No one can replace The Carpenters. And their songs will always be remembered.
Hello Matt, I totally agree!
A treasure!
Small stage, big sound, huge talent.
36 years later we're still looking at these old vids in awe, wondering and aching at what could have been . . . . . . .
So sad we lost Karen too early. Amazing soft smooth sweet loving angel voice. Missed u Karen
Absolutely sensational! Karen was simply The Best. We'll never see the likes of the Carpenters again.
I can't imagine the heartache Richard had to endure with this loss of his sister 😢😭😪. I hope he's doing well.
Agreed. He lost his sister, best friend, and career all on the same day.
All time i heard. I'am crying. The music is so greatful.
Karen was truly a treasure!!! You can’t help but just love her!! She just had such a warm, loving and genuine delivery.........I always loved to hear her speak between songs. She definitely had the charisma
I’m sorry you left us so soon Karen. You really did deserve so much more.
What a great voice and band..
Flawless from beginning to end ! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wooow, wonderful Karen, fantastic, I get deeply touched each time I listen to the Carpenters..
wow! her voice is good when she's singing live!
Karen looks so beautiful, confident and engaged with the audience.
she always sang songs effortless..she's so damn good!!
I'm going to home in on TH-cam on the dashboard monitor while on the roads... heck, I've stopped listening to CDs of todays but this is the comeback worth searching and recovering all those beautiful singers!!! She's my fav back in the late 60s and mid 70s.
Absolutely phenomenal!
There is no denying the impact that this group had on popular music!
she was so pretty!!!!!
Agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I'll never get sick listening to that anglic voice. She's my all time favourite female singer. Richard should release more live performances of her. Heard that he had all her live performances recorded but did not want to release them.
I wish there were more videos of her performances. She is amazing. I never grow tired of listening.
Always be a fav (childhood) song! So sad about Karen.
This is one of my favourite songs by the Carpenters. I simply love it. Oh man, love to go back in a time machine for this one! :)
Take me with you if you get to...
Love this duo!! Always have. Wish I could have seen her in concerts but I was only 15 when she passed.🤦🏾♀️😓😓
This is amazing to hear and see in 2021.
This is absolutely perfect!!! Richard and his arrangements for Karen's voice is truly an American Treasure that is shared with the world. What a voice! never saw her do the complete "hurting each other" live before. what a treat! thanks so much for posting this!
This song brings tears to my eyes. Such a lovely happy song. :-)
You have to be referring to We've Only Just Begun, because the first song is a very sad song.
Oh Memories! Used to remember my elder sisters playing the vinyl with those big bulky cabinet stereos during the 70's. It makes me sleepy when I'm at the Sala.
I totally agree! Richard's background vocals were terrific!!
marvelous as always karen u r the best.
listened all night long,,,the songs are beautiful just like her voice. ❤
Sure a sad loss , I was 3 when this concert was on , They both had the best harmony's! John
I love Richard's background vocals in this song!
If only Karen knew how much she is missed, she would come alive!
Luck you! All I can remember when I was riding around with my folks was my father singing corny old songs from the 1940's and 1950's. You know, songs like "Mares Eat Oats" and "The Elephant and the Bee". I didn't discover The Carpenters until, like, the late 1970's. Amazing!
I'm 22 i was born in 90's and I like this type of music.
Karen the same age in this video
i love all the carpenter songs
Gosh those drums. Love em
Love her
The last note she holds beginning at 6:44 is beautiful and the subtlety of her @6:49 is truly what made karen such an amazing vocalist. She was magic. Lastly, Stevie Wonder's version on youtube is great too. really opens up the songs soulful groove potential.
marvelous soooooooo gifted so talented.how i wish she knew that.
I love Carpenters man....
This song was 40 years ago no.7 in the world charts #carpenters
Hurting Each Other was the Carpenters current Australian hit. The week of this concert it was at #9 in the national Go-Set chart and peaked, in June ,at #3.
Wow! Just wow! I should have been there even though I was 13 at the time I should have hitched a ride from Geelong!
Oh Karen... how your voice sails upon a dream.
Essa cantava com a alma... me inspiro muito nos contraltos dela.
I love you Carpenters. Gonna take a ride to a De lorean
I have one. Ready?
When this thing gets up to 88 mph, you're gonna see some serious s***.
Karen tinha uma voz, pura e cristalina.
Beatiful
@Leeanneyfanny I saw them on there first tour! fantastic
Hurting Each Other was climbing the Australian charts at the time of this tour, hence the big reaction from the crowd.
I miss you, Karen...

ok I'm in love . . . .
I've seen some fairly recent interviews with Richard. He lost this beautiful woman in his life way too soon. I've heard/read that she protected him from bullies when they were younger. Kinda like a "Big" lead sister.
Muito talentosos artistas
Se um anjo desceu nesse mundo e quis encantar a todos com sua voz , foi a karen , linda , talentosa
, perfeita , a voz mais linda do mundo!
Karen speaks like a young girl, but she sings like a mature woman.
Agree totally
whenever i listen to beautiful voice and music like karen's, i would ask: WHY I WAS NOT BORN IN THOSE TIME
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Uma estrela
Th e song Hurting Each Other is a bit hard to sing but Karen sang it so effortless.
She died in february 1983.
สุดยอด
@YoVaginaStinks1 First of all, I was referring to Richard not releasing the whole concert, not just one song. Second, Richard/Carpenters did not write this song, just performed it.
Funny we've only just begun was written by Paul Williams as an advert for a bank...
It looks like the "conductor" had Richard real concerned at the beginning
I don't know if it was the drummer or what but it had Richard real distracted at the beginning
I wish Kate Bush would get into these songs!!!
Karen was much more comfortable singing behind the drums or in a duet. (And, of course, in the studio, too). While she had great confidence in her voice and drumming skill, she simply did not think she was pretty enough to be fronting a band.
Unfortunately, Richard has stated that he has a low opinion of live concert footage....
No. They should have turned down Richard's mike. His voice interfered with Karen's.
They don't know because she died a very long time ago. You're typing to a generation that wasn't even around when Karen lived.
@YoVaginaStinks1 Richard Carpenter didn't even write this song. It was written by Gary Geld and Peter Udell in 1965 and many singers recorded this song. I suppose you must be lying about Richard Carpenter maybe all you want to do is hurt people!!!!
KAREN WILL LIVE FOREVER.
