    Pretty accurate test. I got about 81 mph out of my bone stock mint '88 about 15 years ago with original, chain, tires, etc. Most don't hit that speed because they are ragged out. Be interesting to test a mint '87. They had faster internal gearing (4th and 5th were higher), and a much larger intake, but were geared slower on the rear sprocket. I always felt it ran out of gearing at the top end for pure top speed, even on a stock motor. They get up to speed very quickly. I think with taller gearing alone, they could hit upper 80's on flat asphalt. Years ago, a guy in Florida took a bone stock '88 zilla with no engine work whatsoever and installed a Dr. Q exhaust system, jetted up the carb (had Dr. Q himself on the phone for tuning tips), trimmed the front fenders, and played with several different sprocket gearing combos. After about 2 days of doing this and posting the GPS results and pics on the quadracer HQ forum, he ended up topping it at over 100mph! I believe he hit 102 or 103 max if I recall, and supposedly the clutch was even slipping a tiny bit at the very top. Motor was a little tired as far as compression. Was running on it's original piston and rings.

      100 plus is crazy. This one could use an exhaust system that's about the only thing I'd ever want to do with it cause it's in such great condition.

    • @patrickjaegers3110
      @patrickjaegers3110 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMapleDude1 Yep, I probably wouldn't even change the exhaust unless you decide you want to build a monster. The stock is so nice and quiet for riding it around places where people might complain! Plus, if you get a good left hanging pipe, you have to cut some out of the front left fender for it to clear.

    I owned one of these quads in 1989 it was a 1988 they have a crank bearing problem so you have to bronze sleve the crank bearing races the way the races are for the crank bearing from Factory they are aluminum they heat up too quick and a steel bearing heats up slow and it starts rattling them and after time you have to bronze those races and that makes a tight seat bronze heats up faster than aluminum and the steel that causes a good tight bearing fit we pressed in the bearing sleeves into the new bored out race at 5000th press the bearing in at 1,1000th and then you're able to get the bearing out without the sleeve coming out for the next bearing change bronze crank bearing race but after that never any other problems and another thing if you add a tooth to the front sprocket and I think there are 12 tooth go to a thirteen that will give you more top end speed but less of a low end going down a tooth on the front sprocket from Factory you can barely hold the front end down I went down a tooth to race with paddles on on Silver Lake sand dune Flats by Lake Michigan and since they are a short race came out real good because the thing leaps out of the hole just got to lean over to bar and keep the front end down
