Secrets to Living Longer: Peter Attia's Expert Tips

  • Peter Attia had a problem. It was 2006. He'd recently graduated from Stanford's medical school and was completing a prestigious surgical residency at Johns Hopkins, but instead of celebrating his success, he was tormented by frustrations.
    The medical establishment, it seemed to him, was stubbornly resistant to change and innovation; doctors could easily diagnose the maladies that kill most of us - heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's, and type 2 diabetes - but they struggled to help their patients avoid those diagnoses in the first place. Peter believed there had to be another approach. He was convinced it was possible to practice a cutting-edge form of medicine that didn't just manage diseases but tried to prevent them. So he embarked on a journey to figure out how to do it.
    Now, nearly two decades later, he's compiled everything he learned on that journey in a book, the #1 New York Times bestseller "Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity." It's a comprehensive guide to exercise, nutrition, sleep, and mental health that'll help you live better for longer.

    P.S. Methinks that at the heart of Peter Attia's objection to nutrition and dietetics has to do with his personal taste regarding what he likes to eat There is plenty of evidence that certain diets (I e. Vegan), have been shown to be the most beneficial in terms of overall health and longevity.

    • @laza6141
      @laza6141 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He has nothing against a vegan diet , he does says however that it's much harder to get enough protein on a vegan diet.

      @jakobw135 at the heart of just about everyone's objection to the vegan diet is personal taste. It's just too restricting. And many have tried it and found it not only not helpful, but detrimental.
      Of course, many see through the untruths in the vegan propaganda.
      But I have personally heard Peter state, that besides genetics, there is just no accounting for the long lives of all the different centenarians. And he is right. As for the blue zones, none of which are vegan cultures (except SOME of the Loma Linda, California Adventist), I feel it is as much, if not more, lifestyle than diet that serves to lengthen their lives, there, Greece, Japan, etc.

      @@jellybeanvinkler4878 You're probably right about the generat lifestyle, but the vegan diet has been demonstrably shown by the evidence, to be the most efficacious in terms of certain overall health benefits.

      The problem is the kind of evidence. It uses averages, and there is variety in individual responses. Pretty much with any diet (apart from junk food) some people do well on it and others don't.

      He did not. Injury is still there. He said that he is afraid of further problems, when he gets older, and he has no idea how to prevent those. His only solution: avoid future surgeries for himself, while advocating surgeries for unlucky patients, to make more money for medical industrial complex.

    Regarding the 1h17m mark on how sleep is really just a it's just a balancing act between three things melatonin adenosine and cortisol, and that Peter uses the sleep supplements :
    three grams of glycine , 600 milligrams of ashwagandha , magnesium l-threonate.. and
    three milligrams of melatonin and 500 milligrams of phosphatidylserine..
    any thoughts on Dream Water?
    Or thoughts on consuming frozen Fish Eggs for the EPA/DHA?

    IMO Attia ----> What I noticed is that people with balding heads usually die off earlier than people with lush, thick locks. Seen this many times over now.
    My belief is that whatever causes balding also causes thickening, clogging of the arteries.

      Good observation. Attila knows surprisingly little about true health, since 80% of his views are still in dead wrong allopathic paradigm, for example, he ignores vitamins and supplements. So he wasn't even able to save his own hair.

    It's a shame that Peter is forging these paths toward longevity at the same time that the medical industrial machine is attempting to maximize the efficiency of the system that delivers healthcare with an eye on profits rather than health outcomes. They seem to be at cross-purposes and lead me to believe that the individual who cannot or does not take charge of his/her own health is doomed to suffer the ultimate consequence of the business model medicine is adopting.

    • @NextBigIdeaClub
      @NextBigIdeaClub  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's definitely a complex issue, and it can be frustrating to see conflicting priorities in the healthcare system. It's important for individuals to stay informed and take charge of their own health as much as possible.

    I have taken Melatonin after a long flight to try and correct jetlag. I am not sure how well it works. A key is to avoid any booze and caffeine if possible. Also, for good sleep, try and get up early and as soon as possible get outdoors and get some natural light for a while.
