Totally agree ref the Cancer diagnosis. I was diagnosed 5 months ago. I've mostly taken care of myself since the age of 18. But so much more consistently now. I am truly grateful for my diagnosis. I can not guarantee my future, but I can do what I can today to improve it.

74 here too. My favorite workout is to dead lift a 200 lb barbell(not trap bar) 20 reps. I do it twice a week
. It isn't easy especially when I reach the last 5 reps.

When I was 70 I took up ballroom dancing. So fabulous. At 71 my partner(pro) and I won the senior United States championship. Now, at 84I am all about lower lumbar issues. A huge back operation in December removing a herniation. Over the years I accumulated 8 broken ribs, 2 hip replacements, torn meniscus, broken foot, -so , I have osteoporosis and everything that goes with it. I have always excelled in the quick latin dancing, fast, twitchie muscles but now I feel like I’ve been kicked in the chest. Am I done or is there something I can do. Jane Selfe

Wow, I'd intuitively found this channel and heard such a similar story as mine about your back, except mine was from a MVA in 2012 and I did need hardware from L1-L3. I was almost paralyzed, so I can relate. A decade later, everything is crumbling after getting reverse S traumatic scoliosis, DDD, and osteoporosis especially in thoracic and lumbar spine with L4,L5 & S1 being extremely damaged. I have a hard time gaining my muscle back the last year as I can't lift much anymore which is extremely frustrating for me as I used to be a certified fitness instructor and Aquatics Director. I know how important this is, I feel like I'm in a catch 22- Thank you for sharing your story and information.

From all the sports and weigh lifting I have done mountain biking seems to have the most benefit as a single way to exercise and get a all around benefit . Now it requires hard technical riding and allot of climbing . In this respect it's a full body work with cardio and strength . Now there is risk of injury but if you stay below your limits as far as technical riding (you don't need to jump 10 feet in the air ) you can avoid those pitfalls . Cycling usually avoids the injuries you see with running . Lifting heavy weights can lead to many injuries .

    Excellent discussions made here.
As for driving, I am following an advice from my driving instructor that I had decades ago. He had told me that it is important to be aware of the other drivers on the road as some may fail to follow the rules. As an example, I was stopped a a junction by a red light and is in the turning lane waiting for the turning light to go green. The turning light went green and as I was about to accelerate to turn, the car on the opposing side proceeded to accelerate forwards. I stopped to allow that driver to finish crossing that junction before I proceed to make my turn.
I am guessing that the driver might need to have the eyes checked or to be wearing the glasses as I believed that the driver had incorrectly registered the green turning light as the general green light.

Haha. I live in Barton Hills near Zilker park and see a few guys (probably not homeless) wearing backpacks while walking the hills in my neighborhood- I had a vague notion that they were rucking. And yes, Austin is horrible to drive in. I always take the scenic route of 183-281 when I go to Fort Worth to visit my son. Driving on 35 is the riskiest thing I ever do.
I have been thinking about taking up a plyometric regimen again and now I will for sure.

The section on car mindfulness is fantastic and is so rarely discussed in terms on longevity and health. How much unhealthier does it get than being crushed by another car ?

The rucking with 60 lbs on your back will add compression to the vertebrae L4, L5, S1, and that’s not good if that load is supported by shoulder straps. I ruck with a pack that places the load on the hips, thus eliminating the compression on the discs.

great video. only thing i might add is prior to exercise more, everyone needs a baseline assessment of what’s in the tank. ie hormones free testosterone, thyroid etc. many people can’t physically exercise because they are fatigued and deficient. optimizing hormone and diet should
    be number one.

Yeah he makes a lot of Sri. I would like some suggestions on how to do all this exercise when you are physically handicapped and physically can’t do this ? If you can tell me how to do this I would be so willing to try. Yes, insulin resistance is so bad for people

It's great to know about rocking. I do it each time when I visit my parents because they stay up a hill. And I absolutely love it! But I live in plains. Have been wondering for years how I can manage to do it here in my own town with no hills for miles and miles.
Any solutions pls 🙏 dear Lewis.
    Love from India ❤
