When I was 70 I took up ballroom dancing. So fabulous. At 71 my partner(pro) and I won the senior United States championship. Now, at 84I am all about lower lumbar issues. A huge back operation in December removing a herniation. Over the years I accumulated 8 broken ribs, 2 hip replacements, torn meniscus, broken foot, -so , I have osteoporosis and everything that goes with it. I have always excelled in the quick latin dancing, fast, twitchie muscles but now I feel like I’ve been kicked in the chest. Am I done or is there something I can do. Jane Selfe

I am 74 years old, 190 pounds, and 11% body fat measured by the DEXA method. Also, I'm not on testosterone replacement therapy.
Thanks for the Dr. Peter Attia interview. I have engaged in resistance weight training for 30 years to minimize the impact of sacopenia, the lost of type 2 muscle fibers.

. It isn't easy especially when I reach the last 5 reps.

Totally agree ref the Cancer diagnosis. I was diagnosed 5 months ago. I've mostly taken care of myself since the age of 18. But so much more consistently now. I am truly grateful for my diagnosis. I can not guarantee my future, but I can do what I can today to improve it.

Wow, I'd intuitively found this channel and heard such a similar story as mine about your back, except mine was from a MVA in 2012 and I did need hardware from L1-L3. I was almost paralyzed, so I can relate. A decade later, everything is crumbling after getting reverse S traumatic scoliosis, DDD, and osteoporosis especially in thoracic and lumbar spine with L4,L5 & S1 being extremely damaged. I have a hard time gaining my muscle back the last year as I can't lift much anymore which is extremely frustrating for me as I used to be a certified fitness instructor and Aquatics Director. I know how important this is, I feel like I'm in a catch 22- Thank you for sharing your story and information.

From all the sports and weigh lifting I have done mountain biking seems to have the most benefit as a single way to exercise and get a all around benefit . Now it requires hard technical riding and allot of climbing . In this respect it's a full body work with cardio and strength . Now there is risk of injury but if you stay below your limits as far as technical riding (you don't need to jump 10 feet in the air ) you can avoid those pitfalls . Cycling usually avoids the injuries you see with running . Lifting heavy weights can lead to many injuries .

    Excellent discussions made here.
As for driving, I am following an advice from my driving instructor that I had decades ago. He had told me that it is important to be aware of the other drivers on the road as some may fail to follow the rules. As an example, I was stopped a a junction by a red light and is in the turning lane waiting for the turning light to go green. The turning light went green and as I was about to accelerate to turn, the car on the opposing side proceeded to accelerate forwards. I stopped to allow that driver to finish crossing that junction before I proceed to make my turn.
I am guessing that the driver might need to have the eyes checked or to be wearing the glasses as I believed that the driver had incorrectly registered the green turning light as the general green light.

I love exercising! Yet I am not as strong as I should be at 71. I do muscles conditioning classes but only pick up 7 lbs weights equaling 14 .
