"And we don't want them to feel bad so we made a system where women can get titles even if they aren't strong enough compared to men".
It’s because the talent pool is really small. For a long time chess was a male only sport so women weren’t encouraged to play chess. They made those separate leagues to build up more of a talent pool.
@@Randomguy-nr6qr Mate why is it so difficult to say men and women are different…. We are different physically. We are also different mentally our brains are hard wired different through evolution to survive. A women will never be world chess champion

@@uatom That's untrue. First off, women are strongly discouraged from playing chess, and on average, female players experience significantly greater harassment. Men will perform better since there will be less discouragement and greater incentive to study. Second, there is no evidence from research that the typical guy is a better chess player. Please provide the references for such a claim. According to your reasoning, women are smarter than males since they often achieve higher academic standards. Your claim is false and disregards environmental influences.
Yes, she's an idiot. I generally believe that there are reasons other than natural ability as for why men are seen as better, but the interviewer is not helping.
the truth is bitter, the news achor couldnt accept it. My math teacher was a woman, she was phenomenal at solving math problems, a lousy teacher but mathematical genius. A few years completing uni i realised i had become equal if not better than her.
Your math teacher at grade school was not a mathematical genius. Good at math, sure. Not a genius. How many published papers did she have? At least more than 50 if we're talking genius.
Its the same way with shogi (japanese chess). The highest ranked women simply aren't as good as the highest ranked men. Its weird that it is since chess is a purely cerebral game but it just is for whatever reason
Tasneem Ahemd, he’s not really right about that, both genders do better in certain parts of science and math. Chess on the other hand is better suited to men.
they are not worse, in my opinion lots of women think chess is not interesting, maybe that's why there are fewer women chess player and (for now) there has not been higher rated women chess player than men chess player.
men on the whole are more logical, they make better mathematicians, scientists, engineers, architects, inventors, chess players, Formula 1 drivers, pretty much everything other than having babies
there are many women mathematicians and engineers and inventors. But they are fewer than men because for a long time women were denied education. But if that wouldn't have happened, they would be equal.
So if there is no difference between men and women, why don't they just mix the men and women together, and make it where the men have to play the women? Why have a woman's chess champion? Why have a men's chess champion? Just put them all together. Problem solved. Or is it?
The way these people are phrasing their comments and talking down to women is the very reason so many extreme-feminists exist. If people could just think less of gender and more of teamwork the world would be so much happier
But don't women also make things about gender nowadays everytime they excel? It happens on both sides, is just that a great sum of women are more soft when it comes to these things and resort to the extremes👌
Sure mate making a totally different league and series of tournaments specifically for women so that they could stop getting crushed by men is so sexist.
The best way for women chess players to demonstrate that they are the equal of their male counterparts is to be able to compete with them - something which they have continually been able to do ever since competitions began. At that we can either begin to work out the reasons why or else lie and pretend that the reality is otherwise. Short is in the former camp no doubt the right on media is in the latter. I would say that sexism is the sole preserve of the latter camp.
I am not a feminist, but the difference between the average male 100 meters time and the female 100 meters time is 1.7 seconds. Why all the bickering and agonizing? Such a waste of energy.
"Women Are Worse Players Than Men" ... well, it's true. There have been 3 female players in the top 100 in history. Sorry if that is not pc. What is the next thing to get offended about, average height? Strength? Which sex is more agressive?
On a number of occasions, Nigel Short stood up for the rights of women, like he stood up for the rights of players in general. To name a few, he opposed having the FIDE Women's Grand Prix in Iran and then the Women's World Championship in Iran where even during play, all the female participants had to wear a hijab. He opposed having the World Rapid and Blitz in Saudi Arabia and managed to change the country in future years, where players from Israel were not allowed to participate. All he said was that women are DIFFERENT to men, and pure facts that in the top 100 players in the world, only 2 were female, Judit Polgar and Hou Yifan. This is a fact, not an opinion.
All of these people saying that it has to do with how girls are raised, rather than an inherent difference between males and females, look at the Polgar sisters, who were raised from a very early age to be chess players. Polgar has beaten Nigel, but she can't touch the men's world champion. She might win a game, but overall is dominated. There are actual differences between women and men, no matter how much people try to pretend it is down to environment.
Judit herself had peaked at world #8! At her peak, I would not say that she would have been dominated. I agree that she does not stand a chance against the current World Champion Magnus Carlsen, but neither do most males players either. The likes of Magnus, and Alireza for example, are rare generational findings. There are likely other females far more talented than Judit to come, but we will hardly ever know if they are not exposed to chess. That is where the statistical argument comes from. If fewer females are exposed to chess, then we are less likely to find such a rare generational talent.
I agree that she'd likley never beat Nigel, but there are definitely female chess players out there who could. Polgar beat Magnus recently, stranger things have happened at sea
It could only go 3 ways. Either men are better, women are better or they are both roughly the same. Not really many outcomes and not really a big deal.
Only 3 women have ever made it in the global chess 100 list. We can safely assume we're not getting a female chess champion any time soon.....or to be more realistic....NEVER.

Something that nobody objects to, is that women supposedly have it harder and chess environment is a sexist one. True, chess is sexist, but in extreme favour to women. Women are encouraged by small age, they get the best trainers, more prizes, more medals, more opportunities to play in relation to their strength, more scholarships in universities due to chess, etc. Also the bad jokes among men are incredibly harsh when they are directed to men. Some times they are downright illegal and they are offered casually with huge laughs. And men are men enough to take them all in and respond on the board to silence opposition, while women NEVER have to do that because everybody is so courteous to them and their fragile psyche, either in fear that they are going to be discouraged or they just want to have sex with them as there is no other chance anywhere in a 2km radius around a chess board.

Nigel Short should get his facts straight. Just because a sport might be dominated by people of a certain gender doesn't mean that those of opposite gender aren't suited to the sport or aren't inclined to be proficient players.
He has got his facts straight, by your reckoning men would earn just as much as women on the catwalk if there were more of them trying - whereas in actual fact the men aren't there because on average they earn so much less. People are more likely to stick with something if they are successful at it.
@@thelimey351 Doesn't that prove op's point? @@lisejl No, it doesn't, women do NOT get less pay, in fact they have the ultimate advantage, because unlike the men they can play in the women's category (to date a waaay lower standard) or they can play with the men. Men obviously don't get that option. If a woman elects to play with the men and does well she gets a LOT more publicity and fame (and inevitably sponsorship) if she does well than a comparable man would. With being a model it's about demand (which is fair), whereas chess it's all about results (which is even more fair !).
@@thelimey351 Right, but those women's leagues have significantly less prestige and are mainly looked at as an effort to encourage more women to play. Just by prize money alone, the FIDE Women's World Championship had a prize of 500k euros, the main one had a prize of 2 million euros. Sure, a woman playing well with men will get more publicity and fame, but that just makes sense given the rarity of that, even if it means a woman with less impressive results will get more attention for being a woman. To the point of the original poster and your modeling example, men might be less likely to model because they're paid less, but that doesn't mean they're inherently less capable of being a model, yeah?
He has got his facts straight and they are backed up by history and statistics. Your point is merely an opinion and we all know what opinions are like.
Women think differently than men. One isn't necessarily better than the other. This game is made more for spatial thinkers. I'm not crying every night about it. There are more effective ways of measuring intelligence. I wouldn't waste my time.
Your right, chess isn't an accurate way of measuring intelligence, however truth is in chess there is usually only one top move ( there are multiple ) but at many times throughout the game there is only one very good move, no other options. Both males and females as human beings are capable of finding that move, the problem is however women aren't encouraged to play chess. This is where experience outplays the woman players, and why men are better at chess, not being sexist - but anyone is capable of finding good moves.
it's true our brains are a bit different, and maybe women generally speaking aren't as good as men at chess, but why should this be a topic of discussion at all? Should women not be allowed to play chess because of this? what's the point in all of this?

It’s because the talent pool is really small. For a long time chess was a male only sport so women weren’t encouraged to play chess. They made those separate leagues to build up more of a talent pool.

Men are less inclined to model because male models get less pay, fame, and are ridiculed more for their choice of a career > Women are less inclined to play chess because pro female chess players get less pay, fame, and are ridiculed more for their choice of a career.
Statistically, he's correct. As from other pov, I'm not sure.
Exactly, and the reporter even just ask his opinion.
