She was barreling rolling with no belts on either pilot or Colombo. They would have fallen against the roof. It would be catastrophic. I love 70s TV.

Not in a well done barrel roll, you will always be positive G. In an aileron roll you will have negative G. But yes it’s not realistic. In the country singer episode they had the seat loose and shaking around to simulate turbulence haha

Look up Bob Hoover pouring tea.
The part where Columbo is flying and is all over the place with no idea what he’s doing but they STILL aren’t being thrown around even a little bit, is a lot more ridiculous in my opinion.

As Columbo says, her lack of conscience is what gives her away. Any innocent person, and indeed most guilty parties, would still at least react to the idea of killing someone because they're so incredible.

    • @rowanaforrest9792

She did react, but the only thing she couldn't hide is was his comment struck a nerve, but she didn't let on which nerve. I think her deliberate lack of sympathy for Columbo's nerves in the plane betrayed her coldness. Great acting!

Years ago, (92 or 93 don't remember exactly)I was helping a friend fix his old farm truck when we hard a plane that just did not sound right. A moment later a plane flew by so low that we ducked, low enough that we could have reached up and grabbed the wheels to go for a short ride.
The plane ended up making a messy emergency landing in his corn field. We had his wife go make an emergency call, then we both ran out to see if here was anything we could do. (I am trained in first aid, and do have a working knowledge of other health issues)
Luckily there were no serious injuries, just a few scrapes and bruises that we were able to take care of before the real medics showed up.
They ended up taking the wings off, and hauling it somewhere to get repaired (again no major injuries)
A while later, my buddy received a check for $4000 because 0f crop damage from an insurance company, and handed me $500, which I figured was great for just helping a friend fix his truck.

As a rule I'm pretty good at suspending disbelief if the overall story and acting are good. For me, that was the case here. I really enjoyed Lee Grant and her justifiably sassy stepdaughter, Margaret, played by Patricia Mattick who died of cancer at age 52. I also enjoyed the interplay between Columbo and the killer, especially the blank look on Grant's face when Columbo asked how she kept the fancy soaps in her bathroom soap dish from sticking together. After a split-second, baffled pause, she said, "It's a problem." The question and answer seemed so unrehearsed, it made me think it might have been one of Falk's infamous and disconcerting ad libs. If so, Grant handled it to perfection.

    • @realitycheck3363

The way they do the barrel roll, you will stay in your seat with one g all the way around. You see, if they were flying straight and level while doing a barrel roll, you would need a safety belt. But not if you do it like they showed.
As for a headset, if the plane is quite enough, you don't need a headset. And as you can see, they can talk normally, so there's no reason why she won't be able to hear the radio over the plane's own speakers.

Later they were as long as half an hour which was a great improvement. The TV had just been invented in the 50’s so the TV sets were a lot smaller so they couldn’t handle longer shows

@@BobSmith-mz1uo You can check it out yourself. The TVs had just been invented and were much smaller. In today’s dollars they were very expensive but the size was tiny compared to what you can get today.
For example in 2020 from Netscape:
Samsung's 'The Wall' TV might be the biggest screen we've ever seen. The Wall MicroLED TV is a whopping 292 inches, with an 8K model at 150 inches. Just plain huge.
      In the 1950s:
When commercial television was introduced in the 1950s, a 16-inch set was the biggest available.
The 1950s was the decade that saw the birth of the 'suburban dream'. It was an era dominated by full employment, a good standard of living, family- focused values and the 'suburban dream' of a house of one's own with the latest labour-saving appliances. New suburbs were developed with detached houses on large blocks.
During the 1950s, a sense of uniformity pervaded American society. Conformity was common, as young and old alike followed group norms rather than striking out on their own. Though men and women had been forced into new employment patterns during World War II, once the war was over, traditional roles were reaffirmed.
Average family income in 1950 was $3,300, or $200 higher than in 1949, according to estimates issued today by Roy V. Peel, Director, Bureau of the Census, Department of Commerce.

@@BobSmith-mz1uo You are right of course. TV was invented in the 1920's not the 1950's .Even the screens of the 1950's TV's were bigger than modern day smartphone screens which people use to watch streaming content of any length on.
