Of the many things I love about this movie is the casting. Every damn character comedy actor from the 30's, 40's and 50's that was still alive, was cast. Just when you thought you saw "every one" another would have a scene. A great tribute to the glory days of vaudeville and film comedy.

The shot was done from a camera that was set up about 200 yards away. He also talked about how he did joke (That he claimed was famous) by yelling out "Make Up" to the distant camera. After the plane buzzed the tower, he yelled out "Underwear" because of the terror of the plane doing the flyby.

My parents took me to see this the year it came out (1963) as a 5 year old kid, at a place called the Cinerama Theater in Providence, RI, which was state-of-the-art for the time. I was in awe!! It's still one of my all-time favorites, and never gets old. Man, they really DON'T make 'em like they used to!

No, they sure don’t! I was born in ‘82, & just watched this for the first time last night! I look for older films b/c they were just better back then! I consider the 90’s to be the last decade of practical effects. Before over usage of CGI. CGI has its place, but I do think we are too dependent on technology these days. It’s cheaper, yes, but ya get what ya pay for. Some CGI looks good. They just go overboard w/it!
This was a fantastic film, & I can’t believe I haven’t seen it before, but I was feeling down & depressed yesterday. This movie made my night, I was laughing so hard! Truly needed! I believe everything happens for a reason, & this movie was meant for me to see at a time when I needed it most! Laughter really is the best medicine!

@@ladyscarfaceangel4616 I'm so glad you watched this movie at just the right time, and that it had a positive effect on you. Nothing like a good laugh, especially a sustained one. It's a pretty long movie, but a true gem, and there's literally a (belly) laugh a minute. I'm about due for another viewing, so thanks for putting the bug in my ear! (I watch it every year, or two.) Anyway, I hope you're feeling better since Mad, Mad World. Thanks for sharing! What you have to remember is that this movie was made long before CGI and other special effects. That scene @6:30 where they buzz the tower is real. It was a real plane with a really crazy pilot flying that plane. I also learned that they did not tell the other actors that they were going to do that. So whe you see the guys waving their hands as the plane is closing in they were not acting. That was real fear.

    • @Marckymarc71
