Sebs this is Marc ( Miami)... she did this with one read through and one take! Look she's reading the fricking words off her phone. Nothing more to say this 12 yr. When she does these songs, and there are several with the guartar players, are all done with one or two takes recorded from her den at home. If you go to Alan's ch. he interviewed this guitar player ( I think his last name is Mendez ) who did many of her 12 yr covers.

In short “Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she spontaneously decides whether she likes a song. After hearing this song she says great song and downloaded the lyrics. Ivan admitted that he didn't know this song but the melody wasn't difficult and was able to learn it quickly. “. Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time according to her arrangement, without rehearsing beforehand. 💯 AJ 💯

Beautiful and expressive as Adele's version is, the emotion seems to be somehow general or impersonal in nature, whereas Angelina seems to sing to me, directly, and touch something in my heart. From the dozens of covers Angelina released over the years, this is my favourite. The song itself, is fantastic, but Angelina found that particular auditory vibration that makes me tear up when I hear it. Some of my other favs are from around this time. Just the shear audacity, and humility of a 12 year old girl, siting in her living room, reading the lyrics to the side, and with only the accompaniment of an acoustic guitar...delivers a version of a song, that emotionally eviscerates the original...which is sung by one of the best female singers in the World, is mindboggling. No matter how many times I've listened, I've done so in awe.
I agree about the comparison with Adele. Adele is singing a beautiful song beautifully, but Angelina sings this song like she's telling a close friend deep, intimate, feelings about her life, and perhaps we listeners feel a little like that close friend empathizing deeply with her.

My mind and ears appreciated the beauty of the Adelle version. But my body got chills with Angelina's version. They are just playing around here, too. This is not a polished, prepared performance, and yet my whole body feels the goosebumps. You get the emotion with the Light, with the sense of being connected to the whole of humanity and human experience. All of it. 💜

Adele is a fabulous songwriter and Angelina is a marvelous musical storyteller. Put the two together and you have beauty and truth. For me, Angelina brings truth to everything she sings, and whether or not she's experienced the specific story in the lyrics, she knows and conveys the underlying emotion, with a golden wash of hope. There are so many elements that seems to make Angelina's voice and performances so special. But I honestly believe there is a resonance to her voice that the listener feels inside. She connects and bonds with you and you feel the emotion of the song not just from the words and their meanings but from your heart and soul. Her voice touches people in a way that you are drawn in and in that performance with her. Her talent is special. Once in a lifetime for me.
For me this is the version, but definitely not because I could watch her singing. My first time hearing this song by Angelina (I didn't know the Adele original) was audio only... And it completely wrecked me, that pain, that despair in her voice was even stronger just hearing it in the darkness - it was winter, I sat at my gloomy fireplace with lights turned down, with a nice glass of red wine and just wanted to relax and listen to some beautiful music, and then she came in with all her might, and I even didn't know what happened, my eyes filled with tears within seconds and I started crying like a baby, for like half an hour, listening the song a dozen times in a row, until I was able to calm down and think about what just had happened. The whole experience felt as if Angelina with her voice had torn my heart out of my chest and in the beginning it was very frightening, but then I could "see" or "witness" how she carefully mended it, taking away some pieces that were useless now and adding others that would be more helpful for the future, arranging them all in a more harmonious order and then gently putting it back, my heart, at the place where it belongs and it is needed. That was a deep and spiritual experience and since that day I have become an Angel, I had only known her for a week or so at that time and had listened to a couple of her covers, "I Put A Spell On You", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Yellow Brick Road" and "FeelingGood", so I already knew and loved her voice, but this caught me completely off guard emotionally, only very few times in my life had one specific song such an impact on my whole being... as I said, without seeing her, so maybe that's not the reason you prefer her version, but only because in a way she is much better than Adele, and that is in conveying the true emotion in a song and making us feel it... her vibrato though... Did you catch the expression on the face of the guitarist? He's smiling like "I can't believe I'm sitting here." He was interviewed by a TH-camr who exclusively covers Angelina Jordan. The family would have the musician sit down and just chill out for a while and talk about songs they like. Then there would be a brief introduction to the song they had selected and then BAM right into recording. No big prep, no extended practice. Sometimes, Angelina would be reading the song AS SHE SANG IT. Musicians love working with her.
Adele version is like a black and white flat screen performance compared to Angelina. Angelina's is liken to a vibrant technicolor 3D performance. Adele gets the credit for the songs creation and Angelina gets the credit for making it other worldly!! Ivan mendez is the guitarist and in an interview on TH-cam he says there was no real preparation before recording this on a cellphone. I look forward to many more favs by AJ and had the extraordinary good fortune to attend a July '22 concert in Norway. She sang 15 songs, followed by 3 encores, finishing with "I Have Nothing". You heard it right...AJ did slow it very slightly as she usually does. It's one of her trademarks and is one way she is able to tell the story to get you to pay attention and of course the way she sings "I miss my mother" with such emotion. 12 years old.

Hi Sebs, her guitarist, Ivan, during his interview with Alan Papier, said that as he was accompanying her, he would look over and realize how lucky he was to be sitting next to someone so talented. The expression on his face says it all as does your. I like your reactions very much, perhaps, it is your daughters that bring home how beautiful an artist can be that moves you so. At 12, she did a number of really good covers (Stay, Welcome to My World, Born to Die, Loving You, Something Got a Hold of Me, among others) which are worth reacting to and provide a more complete picture of her inner soul and ability to connect with her listeners, especially during live performances. A Million Years Ago by Adele is a beautiful song which Angelina made more beautiful and heartfelt. Like My Funny Valentine, it is a fabulous song that is ripe for a deep interpretation by an outstanding artist. I am amazed how she is able to choose these songs and turn them into masterpieces. I think because she has such a voice that shows a maturity and she sings It's like it comes from a really Soulful place like she's lived it but she's only 12 or 13. She's a very good singer and when she sings if you watch her standing at a mic singing her whole body and presence exudes heartfelt feelings like again she's went through it. Everybody gets emotional when she sings either crying or their expression is soft and just clinging to every word. She's just beautiful young girl with a great big voice.

For me, it is the conviction she has in her voice when singing. In reality, she doesn't just "sing" a song, she "lives" it. Angelina sings emotions that resonates with each listener. She actually touches our souls with her Angelic voice. I have always known music is powerful, but Angelina's music is what I think of as angelic.
To make it even more impressive: these recordings were rather informal and improvised. Ivan would come to her house, he would hang out with the family and in the evening they would quickly decide on a song, practice a little and record usually in one take. Unless, per Ivan own words, he would mess up and than a second take was needed. You can see her glance at the lyrics from time to time and get some words a little wrong. Still despite all that, the give this amazing performance. I agree that her voice has more warmth and depth to it than Adele. I think she has a lot of natural melancholy to her voice and that fits with what you called that she turns it into a sad song. I love Adele’s singing and she is an amazing creator of very personal songs, but Angelina makes me feel the song also more than Adele does. If you want to see a song being transformed just by tempo and her melancholy, listen to her and Ivan performing ‘Stay’ by Rihanna.

In my opinion, Angelina Jordan knows how to paint her words beautifully, she does better than the Original. That’s makes her genius period.
My mind and ears appreciated the beauty of the Adelle version. But my body got chills with Angelina's version. They are just playing around here, too. This is not a polished, prepared performance, and yet my whole body feels the goosebumps. You get the emotion with the Light, with the sense of being connected to the whole of humanity and human experience. All of it. 💜

Angelina is a gift to the universe. I watch this video often and sob. It’s my favorite of hers. It helps me cope and accept my incurable illness. I love it so much Ive asked that this be played at my memorial. I’m in love with this magnificent being.

Adele is a fabulous songwriter and Angelina is a marvelous musical storyteller. Put the two together and you have beauty and truth. For me, Angelina brings truth to everything she sings, and whether or not she's experienced the specific story in the lyrics, she knows and conveys the underlying emotion, with a golden wash of hope. I think it's just who she is, making every song feel like hope.

There are so many elements that seems to make Angelina's voice and performances so special. But I honestly believe there is a resonance to her voice that the listener feels inside. She connects and bonds with you and you feel the emotion of the song not just from the words and their meanings but from your heart and soul. Her voice touches people in a way that you are drawn in and in that performance with her. Her talent is special. Once in a lifetime for me.
For me this is the version, but definitely not because I could watch her singing. My first time hearing this song by Angelina (I didn't know the Adele original) was audio only... And it completely wrecked me, that pain, that despair in her voice was even stronger just hearing it in the darkness - it was winter, I sat at my gloomy fireplace with lights turned down, with a nice glass of red wine and just wanted to relax and listen to some beautiful music, and then she came in with all her might, and I even didn't know what happened, my eyes filled with tears within seconds and I started crying like a baby, for like half an hour, listening the song a dozen times in a row, until I was able to calm down and think about what just had happened. The whole experience felt as if Angelina with her voice had torn my heart out of my chest and in the beginning it was very frightening, but then I could "see" or "witness" how she carefully mended it, taking away some pieces that were useless now and adding others that would be more helpful for the future, arranging them all in a more harmonious order and then gently putting it back, my heart, at the place where it belongs and it is needed. That was a deep and spiritual experience and since that day I have become an Angel, I had only known her for a week or so at that time and had listened to a couple of her covers, "I Put A Spell On You", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Yellow Brick Road" and "FeelingGood", so I already knew and loved her voice, but this caught me completely off guard emotionally, only very few times in my life had one specific song such an impact on my whole being... as I said, without seeing her, so maybe that's not the reason you prefer her version, but only because in a way she is much better than Adele, and that is in conveying the true emotion in a song and making us feel it... her vibrato though... Did you catch the expression on the face of the guitarist? He's smiling like "I can't believe I'm sitting here." He was interviewed by a TH-camr who exclusively covers Angelina Jordan. The family would have the musician sit down and just chill out for a while and talk about songs they like. Then there would be a brief introduction to the song they had selected and then BAM right into recording. No big prep, no extended practice. Sometimes, Angelina would be reading the song AS SHE SANG IT. Musicians love working with her.

This is one of my favorite pieces by AJ. Did you notice she was reading the lyrics as she was singing the song? Ivan mendez is the guitarist and in an interview on TH-cam he says there was no real preparation before recording this on a cellphone. I look forward to many more favs by AJ and had the extraordinary good fortune to attend a July '22 concert in Norway. She sang 15 songs, followed by 3 encores, finishing with "I Have Nothing". Thanks Sebs for playing the Adele version first. It always helps to know the song before listening to Angelina so you can hear and even see the emotion she is able to convey. You heard it right...AJ did slow it very slightly as she usually does. It's one of her trademarks and is one way she is able to tell the story to get you to pay attention and of course the way she sings "I miss my mother" with such emotion. 12 years old.

Angelina’s voice attacks your limbic system and forces an emotional reaction that you were not expecting. It’s the tone in her voice that does this, Elvis Presley had this same ability when he sang Gospel songs. If she ever sings Gospel songs, there won’t be a dry eye on the planet!

While both Adele & Angelina have beautiful voices, (IMHO) what sets Angelina apart is her innate GOD given gift of being able to emote the essence of each song she sings direct to our hearts & souls allowing us to also deeply FEEL the emotions through her singing. Great, thanks! Angelina has a significant advantage with many of her covers. Most popular musicians crank out the industry tempo, but when Angelina slows it down, even a little, the beautiful emotionality of the lyrics can really shine.

Hi Sebs, her guitarist, Ivan, during his interview with Alan Papier, said that as he was accompanying her, he would look over and realize how lucky he was to be sitting next to someone so talented. The expression on his face says it all as does your. I like your reactions very much, perhaps, it is your daughters that bring home how beautiful an artist can be that moves you so. At 12, she did a number of really good covers (Stay, Welcome to My World, Born to Die, Loving You, Something Got a Hold of Me, among others) which are worth reacting to and provide a more complete picture of her inner soul and ability to connect with her listeners, especially during live performances. A Million Years Ago by Adele is a beautiful song which Angelina made more beautiful and heartfelt. Like My Funny Valentine, it is a fabulous song that is ripe for a deep interpretation by an outstanding artist. I am amazed how she is able to choose these songs and turn them into masterpieces. I am also so grateful that Angelina is bringing back these exceptional ballads for future generations to enjoy and feel deeply. Thanks so much Sebs for sharing yourself in your reactions. I think because she has such a voice that shows a maturity and she sings It's like it comes from a really Soulful place like she's lived it but she's only 12 or 13. She's a very good singer and when she sings if you watch her standing at a mic singing her whole body and presence exudes heartfelt feelings like again she's went through it. Everybody gets emotional when she sings either crying or their expression is soft and just clinging to every word. She's just beautiful young girl with a great big voice.

Hi, Sebs! Thank you for another excellent reaction to Angelina. I think the word you were looking for is "expressive" when you were talking about the way she delivers emotion. For me, it is the conviction she has in her voice when singing. In reality, she doesn't just "sing" a song, she "lives" it. This is especially apparent when she sings:

Angelina sings emotions that resonates with each listener. She actually touches our souls with her Angelic voice. I have always known music is powerful, but Angelina's music is what I think of as angelic.
To make it even more impressive: these recordings were rather informal and improvised. Ivan would come to her house, he would hang out with the family and in the evening they would quickly decide on a song, practice a little and record usually in one take. Unless, per Ivan own words, he would mess up and than a second take was needed. You can see her glance at the lyrics from time to time and get some words a little wrong.
Still despite all that, the give this amazing performance. I agree that her voice has more warmth and depth to it than Adele. I think she has a lot of natural melancholy to her voice and that fits with what you called that she turns it into a sad song.
I love Adele’s singing and she is an amazing creator of very personal songs, but Angelina makes me feel the song also more than Adele does.
If you want to see a song being transformed just by tempo and her melancholy, listen to her and Ivan performing ‘Stay’ by Rihanna.
