    I really appreciate this video. I'm travel radiology (CT) and my wife and I were REALLY looking into the RV life. Had the RV picked out and everything. It wasn't until, before I took my first contract, that we called around to some different states pretending to look for spots to stay. It was summer and we couldn't find any. At least in the places we wanted to go. It was at the moment we made the decision to do apartments (month to month). We didn't want where we could stay to dictate where we could go. Its more expensive but we've been able to hit everyone spot on our list so far. I've only been traveling for a year and I'm still open to the idea down the road of an RV, but maybe after we've visited most of the places we've wanted to see.

    My wife is just finishing up her Masters (One more week of school!), and all we have left is getting through her practicum this summer to get her NP license. Already sold our house, living in an apartment now. Hopefully by this time next year, we will be purchasing a motorhome and hitting the road! We will definitely have to finance whatever we buy, so there was no way we could keep the home, along with her school loans, and finance an rv. Loving your videos, both exploring and real talk Tuesdays. BTW, I have a trophy wife also! Lifetime warranty on socks

      That sounds like a great plan. How exciting to be done with school. It sounds like you guys are on a roll and will be rolling out on the road in no time. The socks thing cracks me up too (Kristin here). But you know, today his lifetime warranty thing came in handy again - truck breaks. We didn't pay anything to replace them!

    We rent out a house furnished to a travel nurse and her husband who is studying at the language Institute in Monterey. They own a house in Florida that they are also renting out....We stumbled into some serious tax advantages keeping instead of selling our house. So, for some folks, before hitting the road, see if it might make sense to hang onto your house and finance an RV....

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely. Taxes are so complicated! While we did sell our home we rent a room at market value and keep it as a tax home in our home state which meets the requirements. Luckily as a travel nurse a tax home can be a rental. We had already sold our house before making the decision to full time rv. It is always wise to check out how your taxes might be affected before hand. :)

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We leave Cinder in our RV while we are out and about. I think it would be more roomy in a trailer than a van of course but I think it could be done. Also, for us, finding a place to stay has become much easier now that we've been doing it for a bit. As with everything it's a learning curve but the sites are out there. I don't feel like there is a shortage.

      You also have to consider that his wife and kids are home with their pets while he works the long hours, when they are just out and about and leave their pets it's probably not for the amount of time you would be when working. I can't imagine leaving a pet in a van for the 13-15 hours you will be gone on your work days ! Probably have to budget for doggie daycare.

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rnupnorthbrrrsm6123 this is a good point. Thank you for bringing it up. We don't usually leave her for whole shifts. You know your dog best. Cinder has been in the RV for entire days before if we weren't able to bring her but not consecutive days and we have done doggie day care too.

    I have done a little research but find such conflicting information, where did you find the best advice and information about it ??
    I've wanted to do travel nursing for years but have been so darn chicken, just stayed in my comfort (yet miserable) zone for 10 years, I am finally making the change but will do housing for now, I don't want to add to much stress and complications right from the get go since I'm alone. Thanks for all the info you share :))

    Hey, I'm an interventional radiology tech.. been doing it for almost 3 years, and now I'm thinking about traveling too. So just a quick question. When you guys said you have a taxable home, does that effect the travel pay or your yearly tax. Like I said I'm just start thinking about it and I have no idea where to start. By the way I dont have a permanent home yet. Great video and thanks in advance.

    So you pay for a mortgage and the rv? Is that the only way to receive the housing stipens?

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You must maintain a "tax home" (we rent from family in KS) and incur duplicate expenses (our RV park or boondocking expenses) in order to claim stipends as tax free income.

    • @OlredRN
      @OlredRN 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NoOrdinaryPath how much do you guys spend for the rent on that tax home?

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the cost of the area in which your tax home resides. For example when researching for what the typical rent might be for a room or home in that area you would need to research what the going rate for a room would be in your tax home's surrounding area by checking on Craigslist or other sources. So what I pay in KS would be pretty different then what I would pay if my tax home was in San Diego. The cost you pay for you tax home does not effect your stipends. You typically sign a statement stating you have a tax home that meets the IRS standards and that's it. People get in trouble when they don't and they get audited!
      I know I didn't answer your specific question but we meet the standards by officially renting and actually paying family a comprable amount to what it would cost in their area.
