  • How much do we spend per month to live full time in our RV? Is it cheaper than a sticks and bricks? Do we save any money? We've been asked all these questions so many times and today we're coming clean.

    I am a newbie, but I have wanted to do RV full time for a long time. Well, I am also a new mom now, so I keep trying to explain to my family that i would be happier getting an RV than a house so I am trying to start doing the research to see what size RV we will need that can tow the car, etc. I really enjoyed how you guys broke down everything. I know costs will be different per each individual or family. Biggest costs will likely be the RV itself and finding work that complements the lifestyle change. thank you again guys. ^_^

      So glad you found this helpful. It's been a year since we posted this and all is about the same with one exception. We now have a truck payment that we didn't have before. We still stand by being debt free is best if you can. We needed to upgrade our truck and while we would have loved to pay cash we just couldn't. So our monthly budget has gone up a little but we are still crusing. :) Thanks for watching and for your kind words.

    That was a great break down and I think you're probably the most realistic couple I've seen on TH-cam. Professional TH-camrs don't always tell the truth because it might affect their income so it's good to see some real folks sharing their experiences. We don't full time but even as weekenders, I've learned that RVing is not cheap at all. I tell people not to get into RVing to save money. Get into it because you love it. Otherwise, you will probably be shocked and disappointed at how much it REALLY costs and the amount of work it takes to do it. But, 9 1/2 years in, we have no intention of ever giving it up because it has brought us so much joy and so many wonderful experiences that we've been able to share with friends and family. But honestly, sometimes I'm very happy to do a good AirBnB for a little extra space on vacation too! Hope your family has many, many more happy adventures!

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! When we started our channel we vowed to tell the truth. Even if it wasn't pretty. Yes, RVing is expensive but like you, we love it. An airb&b sometimes might be nice too though. Haha! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. :)

    “Consumables” is the term that encompasses groceries/toiletries/cleaning supplies- think what do we CONSUME. People who think $1,200 is expensive more than likely just don’t actually track their spending.

    Wow, with all boondocking you do I never would have guessed you were spending close to $4k per month but glad to see that you were conservative and still budget $600 for RV campgrounds/parks.

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - we were too actually. We have tried to be frugal but sometimes we get carried away with spending. It ebs and flows but it's nice to look at it as an average over a whole year.

    • @inmyimage1081
      @inmyimage1081 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No Ordinary Path True and the things your kids will remember when they are taking their own kids on vacation will always put a smile on their faces. One big factor I'm sure is the extra drive time to work and supplies means more gas costs than other families on the road who are working from their RV so it's all a trade off, fantastic boondocking with a longer drive or a regular RV park/campground closer to a city that would make it seem less like an adventure which probably isn't great for an outdoorsy family 👍

    The reason it is cheaper for us to rv rather than live in our sticks and bricks is because we rent out our house in California for $3,500 a month while we're gone. That additional income is huge and we wind up feeling like we're losing money while living in our own house.

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is so great - it would be awesome to have that income coming in. I could totally see that feeling like you are losing money when you are home though. haha!

    Thanks for breaking it down, we are looking at the shared health insurance as an option for us if you have any more information on that we would be interested. This final figure is very subjective depending on your lifestyle but very helpful assist in determining others costs. Thanks for sharing ~Brad & Paula.

      No problem! Christian Health Ministries is just one of the companies with a plan like this. We found it most fitting for our family. We have a pretty high "deductible" but for us who rarely need a doctor it is a very good option. We have a reserve in our emergency fund that would cover medical bills up to the point where our health share kicks in. Feel free to send us an email if you have more questions. I'll let John dive into it more. :) noordinarypath@gmail.com

    Excellent!! Thank you for your transparency. Been a devoted follower since the day you guys picked up Wendy (with the flu? rock it girl!!) I've been on the road nearly 6 weeks and you are totally spot on!! Gas in CA: $4.89/gal. Gas in NH: $2.47/gal. And food? Fooorrrgggetaaaboutit!! Agreed this is the biggest wildcard in the formula. Small price to pay for a beautiful, blessed lifestyle. Peace!!

    Nice information here. My question would be.... If you sold your home are you doing anything to account for the loss of that appreciation?

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! We started a mutual fund that we regularly contribute to. When we sold our house and bought the RV we basically used all of our equity so we started with no savings. Over the three years we have been on the road we have made it all back and then some and it continues to grow. We hope to purchase a house again when the market cools off and we'll have a sizeable amount to put down.

    People dont care about how little it could cost, they have a budget a spend to that. The reality is the bare essentials for day to day, not breakdowns and blood preasure pills, just real daily minimum cost without vices and BS. Is in the $200 range without internet. Thats both following and utilizing camp time limits, fuel and food prices across weather zones and tags/RV insurance (always register as rv)/basic upkeep. Spending any more is out of want not need.
    And if you really interested it can be done for about $50-75 a month by utilizing SNAP, food banks, etc.
    These people are spending the median full time jobs income to sleep in a 90 sq ft van on free land. Think about how ridiculous a society weve become.

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This video wasn't about how little money we could spend. This is simply OUR chosen lifestyle. Your suggestion of $200 a month for a family of 5 sounds a bit off - if you have made that work that is commendable. Our journey is about our time together as a family and the experiences/memories we get to have. It is much more than "living in a 90sq ft van on free land."

    • @ped200014
      @ped200014 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NoOrdinaryPath this comment wasnt about your particular budget, it was to let people know the baseline for a single person. Hence the first sentence. Youre welcome to do your thing with what you have. But it is a pretty ridiculous amount for most people. No offense.
