Those are Zenoah g3800 clones, with 40.5mm bore and 32mm stroke. Probably with cat muffler. They are not strato nor clamshell. You can remove the base gasket and also deck the cylinder if necessary. I have Alpina C41 and Iskra GC401. I like them for doing all kinds of experiments and I think that are great value for the price.
@@novicelumberjack I did some searching also and seems like Farmertec also has some clones in this cc range, like their JonCutter G3800. th-cam.com/video/DdFCC0dhO1M/w-d-xo.html unboxing and test done by "DIY with Uncle Cy" I did some modifications to my Alpina C41 like removed the cat mesh from the muffler and removed the base gasket. Torq? Don't ask, don't have any :)
I got the older version s145 last year on a whim. Looks the same to me with different plastics. Not clamshell and not strato! But has a VERY restrictive cat muffler. Mine responded extremely well to a base gasket delete (got it to .018) and Ironhorse style pipe. IMO way better than the new strato poulans in that same market segment! Tho I've only ran about 6 tanks through mine. They're a zenoah clone, combination of g3800 and g4200. Actually, for the average homeowner, I'd say way better value than a stihl ms180 Probably stronger too!😂
I bought an 18" craftsman chainsaw from Princess Auto for $135.00.Used it for the first time cutting up a tree that came down in a storm.Worked great, cut through the trunk and branches like butter.
Just more Zenoah clones??, no saws are junk.... Lol. Even junk saws have their charm.. Well if you are buying them for 20$ That frontier has one smooth drive train.. 😉
I've had an S160 for three years. No problems. Wore the 16" Bar and chain out, and replaced with 18" Oregon. Been felling 24-30" trees and cutting up. Works great, cuts with the 18" bar no problem. Haven't done any mods, all stock. Yes, it would cut better with muffler mod etc, but I've left it alone.
I picked up the 16" craftsman as a trim saw. It runs great and oils well. I ran it 7 hours during a recent storm clean up. It is what it is and works great as a trim saw. I paid $179. Came with a full body case and tool kit. I like it!
I bought a new 1450 last year and was nothing but trouble. Twisted the crank off in less than 5 hours of cutting small kindling. Craftsman gave me my money back. Honestly though I loved the little saw. Lot of punch for the size and mine started easy.
I change my mind. I think you should buy those craftsman. You run a TH-cam channel and they’re probably very popular among the general public would be a good topic on your channel.
Man...thanks for that. Yeah, they aren't pro saws...but I betcha there are a lot more questions about these saws than all the pro saws put together. Lots of regular homeowner types out there looking for guidance.
I have the S205/46cc , and I wouldn't call it junk. I've been using it steady for 2 years, and still going strong.👍Can't help on the42cc. Mine runs a .325/20" bar, with minor muffler mod.
I had a s1800 for almost two years the only problem I had with it was the nut on the bar plate (or whatever the the piece that secures the bar to the saw) that was it the only reason. I don't have it is because I allowed my dad to talk me into to letting him pawn it
I have the Craftsman s160, for 3 years now, and only used it for trimming limbs off small trees, probably 2 inch max diameter limbs and it did the job just fine, starts on the third pull every time when cold and once when warmed, being a novice lumberjack I'm not sure how often you should sharpen the saw, but this one needed sharpening every three cuts, and the chain had to be tightened every few minutes of use. It also leaked out all the chain oil while in storage - the shelf it was stored on is coated in chain oil. So time came (like now) when I had to cut down 8 dead trees - 4-6 diameter trunks - what a struggle that was - it wouldn't even cut them - at full power the chain simply rotated on the surface of the trunk until it smoked. I replaced the chain with a brand new chain and it very slowly cut through the first three trees but that was it - the tree trunks were 3 inches! On the 4th tree the chain just rotated on the surface of the trunk - no cutting whatsoever, not even sharpening the chain helped. Forget about levelling the cut trees trunk to ground level. I don't need a professional lumberjacks saw to do the work around the yard but I really would like a chainsaw that would cut. I just bought the STIHL MS 162 hoping that it would at least cut trees up to 6 inches in diameter, I haven't used it yet so cannot report on its tree cutting abilities, I don't care if it cuts super fast so long as it will cut them. I really hope it works, but before I use it do I really need a professional 800 dollars plus chainsaw to cut 6 inch trees or should I return it now?
Okay, so obviously I should have started with this comment. Sounds to me like you are having real problems with your chain, not your saw. If the chain isn't cutting wood...stop blaming the saw. Blame the chain. Sound like you have it on backwards, are cutting dirt, don't know how to sharpen, or a combination of all. You probably don't need a new saw at all, just need to learn your way around a chain. And side note... most saws leak oil when they sit. Learn to put it away empty or sit it on absorbing pads
I have the older version of the 18 inch and I love mine. Its very useful for cutting a lot of firewood. The average consumer just wants to get a tool for a decent price to use for the job. Also, it would be great to compare this to the Ryobi chainsaw. Thanks for the videos.
Also, I caught a great sale on the craftsman bars a couple years ago and have many in both the 16 and 18 inch. I think you could use either on this for average firewood cutting and home use.

If I can put a link here to a before and after vid I'll try. Its not a TH-cam vid. The air filter set up is like not running one so you know. I ended up "engineering" a velocity stack on it and clamp on filter. I wouldn't run it without pulling the cylinder and chamfering the ports first as mine was trying to score right out the box. No strato on the one I did. Cat in the muffler. Removable cylinder. Transfer caps. I gave it to the brother in law and he uses the crap out of it.
Whenever you can, buy the bar length that you might already have chains for. I am always trying to reduce the variety of chains hanging around on nails...
