Gabriel, in the 90's I trained with the same organization as Giorgio, I am sure you must know who Carlo Diblasi is! He was my coach, and we were part of some of the best promoters in those years, I, unfortunately, left Italy long before Giorgio became part of the team and managed by Carlo Diblasi. I am always in touch with Carlo and will be visiting Milan sometime after the Pandemic and hopefully will meet Giorgio, and hopefully have the opportunity to train with my old team and luckily with Giorgio as well! Hopefully, one day meet you too and train with you, I am turning 57 and still strike with smooth flowy high kicks and flying knees!

For me the most valuable thing about Petrosyan's style is that ANYBODY can pull this off. Let me explain myself: Of course one needs a lot of years of training and competition to be at least somewhere near the level of The Doctor, but anybody can train and implement the technics and tactics to SOME degree, because they don't need some next level athleticism and superhuman reactions to pull it off. It's a thinking man's style of fighting.

@@GabrielVargaOfficialthanks for the reply! When I used to kickbox (very casually) and I found myself cornered I liked to place my glove onto the opponent's shoulder. The idea was I could feel when he's about to swing and react faster and by slightly pushing against his shoulder it will make his punch to fall short. It was quite effective, but kinda frowned upon in my gym TBH. I am not sure where I got this idea. It wasn't from my coach or sparring partners for sure. I remember I watched some boxing breakdown where the narrator talked a lot about elite boxers physically manipulating/controlling opponents. He said it is the difference between the very good and the greates.

In Petrosyan’s fight against Kem I was blown away by how he was able to keep spinning Kem (started in the 2nd round). You see this much more in boxing than kickboxing. I realize a lot of what he does is based on him being a southpaw.

Yet another in a long line of great videos! I’m thinking a part 2 with another 5 things Giorgio does great is in order. There’s another advantage to using a more upright stance: your skeleton is lined up underneath you. Your skeleton bears most of your weight instead of your hips, glutes, quads and abs which are engaged to hold you up with a wider stance. You can bounce around using a lot less energy. Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard are classic examples of using the upright stance in boxing. Very mobile, easy to change direction and very energy efficient. Downside is you have a to shift to a deeper stance to sit down on your punches.

petrosyan is amazing, he has a muay thai background. that's his striking base, and first martial art

Although Petrosyan is usually in a narrow stance, when he wants to throw a powershot he will split step to widen his stance very quickly. This allows him to get many of the benefits of the wide stance while still having the mobility of the narrow stance. My favorite thing about his style is his ability to manipulate the opponent's guard, especially through his "missed" shots. When he misses a shot, as long as he touches them he'll leave it extended in order to set up another attack, each blow setting up the next.

he has a muay thai background. that's his striking base, and first martial art. changing stances from narrow to wide and the arm manipulation is very important in muay thai.

Hey, can you do a video on defeating the "MMA" calf kick. My buddy, who is an MMA coach for UFC/Bellator fighters may have figured out a way to defeat the calf kick, but I'm curious what's out there besides the normal lift.

Have you ever thought about doing some classic fighters like Ramon Dekkers or Ernesto Hoost? Also I have to recommend you look at Naoya Inoue. He’s a great boxer with such a good way of dismantling guards and exploiting weaknesses.

I know as a southpaw he uses that fade back and counter all the time, would doing the fade back to the right as an orthodox be just as safe fighting other orthodox fighters?
