Brother thank you for this video ! I bought a mr2 from a Mercedes technician in Oakland California, told me that the mr2 was swap with a Camry 2.2 5sfe engine , well I did the swap from that to the 5 gen 3sgte from the caldina , thanks to you , I also did the 96 4runner master cylinder, now I wanted to swap the transmission all of this time I thought I had the s54 ! But according to your channel I might have the s51 transmission from the Camry because your rpms are exactly like mine ! I did my research and the gear ⚙️ are almost a like , the only difference is that the s51 vs e153 is about 70 lbs lighter ! Of course the e153 must have more muscle , and can handle more hp , but I’m happy right at 310 hp with the light fly wheel and the 3 stage clutch and red line gear oil Thank you 🙏 for your video you inspired me to get my mr2 and build it too GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER
So glad my videos were helpful! It's great to hear from viewers, and sounds like your MR2 is pretty badass! I'm not really knowledgable when it comes to the S51, but I've heard similar things. Thanks for watching, and good luck with everything in the future.
Thanks for the video. It certainly keeps my love for the Mkii MR2 alive. I'm happy to see your mods make you smile. Nothing like it when plan works out. I'm similarly enjoying the new mods a different car, and with also smile on my face. But I still have dreams about my red MR2 turbo. It remains the only car I've ever owned that just felt right in so many ways. (91T sold in 2001). keep hope alive! :)
I can relate with everything you said. I regret selling my car rare Nissan Pulsar VZR sr16ve high performance 4 cylinder car with lsd and close ratio gearbox. Lsd's make a a huge difference with the cars power. More traction, more responsive and less understeer for a fwd car. Only in the wet understeer is experienced with fwd. For your car the traction will increase even more based on the engine layout. I had two NA mr2s. One was standard and the other had NA mods. Don't down shift as you approach too close to the corners it will unsettle the car do it while the car is in a straight line before the corner. I like yours neat and clean looking car.
The E153 transmission is a good upgrade to accommodate the more powerful gen 4 3SGTE motor. But in today's times with higher HP cars and overall faster highway speeds, I feel it can either use another gear or a taller 5th gear, as it's still relatively high when cruising at 80-90.
Yeah! I actually have them if you're referring to the ones on the cables. I think the issue I had at the beginning was just incompetence 😂 I hit the stop between 2 and 4. Thanks for watching!
you said cusco lsd but which lsd?? i didnt watch 2 min of it as i was in the kitchen making some tea. there are many types of cusco lsd for the E series transaxles.... im looking into the 1&1.5way unit which is set as 1.5 from the factory
Got a similar setup on my UK spec rev4 NA , rev2 turbo LSD box with cables, stage 2 exedy single plate clutch, gen4 3sgte engine swap and the fiddy fly wheel. I was wondering if the flywheel would make it a pain in traffic or in town. How does it drive at these low speeds with stop start traffic? Have you noticed any extra understeer (maybe in the wet?) with the LSD? Hoping to get mine on the road over the next 5 days :D Happy new year!
It is quite compliant in traffic. It's more aggressive than stock and if you're in stop and go for a long time the pedal gets a little heavy. On most drives I don't even notice though. As for understeer in the rain I don't think that would be an issue. Good luck with the drive and thanks for watching! Always great to hear from people in other countries
@@SnowWhiteMR2 Lol, i cant wait to get there, just picked up a 91 turbo swap.. 2nd gen. Just threw a berks dp and exhaust on. Looking to throw in a stand alone next! Any engine mods on your 3s?
@@TheFewmr2 if you mean stuff like cams or other actual engine components no. I have bolt ons like the boost controller, down pipe, exhaust, a2w intercooler, intake, flywheel etc. You'll definitely have fun with your MR2. Idk if a stand alone without other mods is really the move though. Good luck!
I think if there is a specific tire you're eyeing for track it could be worth it to go to 17s. Also you need 17 for a BBK to fit. Otherwise 16 is a great size for the MR2
No, a lighter flywheel will always give you more power to the wheels no matter where or how you're driving. You may have heard something like a lighter flywheel will make the car feel like it has less torque, but that is only because it will stall easier from a stop. The less weight you have in your drivetrain the faster the car will be. Thanks for watching!!
I didn't install myself. As for buying one, there are a lot of different kinds and you just have to search eBay and forums. Some of the bigger venders probably have them too
Read the packaging😆 But seriously if you don't just know what model it is the only way to tell is user vary aggressive driving. Which, if you're purposely trying to push the car beyond its limit and don't know how to LSD will react you make sure you're on track on another sad area.
The e153 is much better with twin synchros, much chunkier, will take 600hp plus no problems. The s54 is much lighter and faster to change gear. s54 is pretty tough too.
Totally agree! The E153 has many advantages including what you mentioned, but the S54 is lighter and enjoyable. And to be honest even with 290hp at the time I ran it for years without a problem. I never launched it though. Thanks for watching!

Just went from a S54 to E153 on my Gen4 as well. This video has made me even more excited to test out the difference!

Yes a 6th gear would be great!
Spherical bushings helped smooth out shifts in my e153

It is! Thanks for watching!
Gotta double clutch when downshifting these older transmissions. Once you get used to that it's nice and smooth.

Ahhh GMR such a nice road to cruise on
Agreed. It's a fantastic road
Sick Sw20 Man, what gen 3sgte are you running? Also what mods do you have besides what you listed in video? Thanks in advance
Thanks man. I have a gen4. Other mods are too many to list haha. Let's just say the body is 100% stock and nothing else is

Could anybody please tell me what seats he has installed? They look sleek, and like a easily comfortable, low-profile fit.
Nvm! Found the answer in his One Take video. For anyone else: Corbeau CR1's
Haha sorry for the late response. Glad you found it! I actually get that question a lot on IG too. Thanks for watching!
