I simply cannot in good faith ship Nancy and Steve. Honestly??? I want them both to be single by the end. Making Nancy get together with Steve in the end feels like a reversal on her character development that she's been going through for the past 4 seasons. I don't WANT Nancy to be tossed around from boy to boy. She has dreams!! She's going to a dope ass liberal arts college where she can meet new people! Explore new possibilities! I don't want her to be tied forever to Hawkins or the people she knew there. And I can say the same about the entire cast. People meet. And sometimes, they leave. Sometimes, people leave from your life unceremoniously, and people who meant the world to you are just. Memories. That feels like it should be a core message of Stranger Things: to move on.

Lucas and Max are a great odd couple if that makes sense. Their personalities are quite different and yet they complement each other because of it. I feel like Lucas is quite a confident and assertive character while Max is more guarded and - idk insecure maybe? Which ties into her upbringing being really crappy? Also like how each is as stubborn as the other, it definitely lends a certain dynamic to their chemistry. Dustin and Suzie need to meet IRL in the final season. I don't care how the Duffer brothers do it, they're just too cute together to be long distance. Wasn't really sure if I liked Suzie that much but after seeing her chaotic home life I'm 100% on board with seeing more of her. Nancy and Jonathan is an unexpected one, particularly due to the circumstances of season 1, but I dunno the spark between these two is undeniable. Please don't let this be the writers allowing them to grow closer only for one to be killed off! My heart couldn't take it! Will and Mike can never happen. I've gone through the five stages of shipping these two and have now finished my journey at acceptance. Mike doesn't like him back in that way, but wouldn't that be an incredible plot twist? I think Will needs a boyfriend though for sure, somebody who loves him as much as the fandom does.

I mean Steve and Nancy just goes against both of their character development and Jonathan and Nancy are unhealthy. Jonathan has communication issues that most probably date back to his childhood and Nancy has a habit of getting too caught up in herself to think of others, both of which aren’t exactly good traits for a relationship. I think they should try working on those issues first before attempting a relationship with each other, especially long distance.

Personally, Steve and Nancy is a big nope for me. They developed so much past their relationship in season 1/small bit of season 2, and it was good to see them remain friends past the toxicity that had kind of been present during their relationship. And season 3 was really a lot of Steve being able to move on and feel ok again after what he’d gone through, especially with his acceptance of Robin being gay. I personally crave Steve and Eddie being a thing because their dynamic was great, Steve being bisexual just makes sense for his character and would really add an extra level of besties to him and Robin because they can bond over loving women AND being not at all straight. Give me Steve and Eddie Netflix, give me popular himbo with a heart of gold and the emo nerd who’s going through it, that’s the mlm shit we deserve

I agree also when mileven got together, El was still processing a lot of trauma and she hadn’t even really developed her own personality because she was still learning about everything and basically adapting to a whole different world, way different then how she grew up. Mike lost his best friend and that is traumatic as well. El just kind of went along with what was happening but I feel like if mileven met at another time like in the future where they got to learn, grow and develop their own personalities more instead of being traumatized and vulnerable, they wouldn’t be together.
I think it's because Eleven was the first girl Mike got to know that wasn't disgusted by him and wasn't his own family. As Mike was shown to be bullied, and a bit of a loser, it would make sense that he'd begin to like the only girl who ever took interest in him. Over time, it just gets weirder and weirder. He acts like a complete asshole to Max in S2 because he doesn't want Max to replace El, and even after he gets El back, doesn't apologize to Max for being a douchebag. Then in S3, he ignores all of his friends in favor of making out with his girlfriends. It was cute in S1 and 2, but S3 marks their phase where they can't stop sucking each other's faces or hanging off each other for one second. Mike acts like he needs to protect her from everything and then has that really awkward outburst that he loves her, then in S4 completely ignores Will once again in favor of pretending El is the only other person in the world. I just really hate that Mike begins to shit on others in favor of El. Dustin just gets back from summer camp and he legit only cares about making out with El as soon as possible, despite the fact they cling to each other every waking second of the day. It's just annoying that Mike begins to be a douchebag to everyone but Eleven, and just flat-out ignores others. El, on the other hand, I completely dislike her side of liking Mike in the story. I really hate that she hyper fixates on him just because he's the first person to ever give her any compassion or treat her with respect. In S1, the only person she says goodbye to is Mike. She only apologizes to him. She only cares about getting back to him in S2, with Lucas and Dustin being an extra bonus. It feels like the only person who exists in her world until S3 is Mike. The second she breaks up with him and goes on a girls trip with Max, I like El. She gets to learn the world from the eyes of someone other than Mike, she gets to feel like a girl, go shopping, learn what she likes and doesn't like, how to have fun. Before, she didn't even go near Max because she was jealous of the one time she saw another girl so much as interacting with Mike.
i think byler is a total possibility after volume 2 and all the little hints and build up (mikes LITERAL heart eyes in the van scene) also even if byler doesn’t happen i dont think mileven will last tbh. its a trauma bond and el got in this relationship right out of the lab but i feel like now she has more sense of herself and will realize that she doesn’t need mike as much as she thought she did
I'm secretly hoping that Nancy ends up single but happy at the end. The problem with any ship that involves Nancy is that she has things she wants to do. She was the first girl he got close to and he was the first boy that was interested in her and kids having puppy love is super cute but as they got older idk. El didn't even know herself. And Mike was just a kid. Help even in season 3 they were awkward. I'm a Byler shipper but I'll say that will deserves better and Mike really needs to fix himself if they're ever going to get together and treat El well.

I agree. I think he loves her platonically, and cares for her, but romantic love is not something he feels for her. They met when they were kids and it's probably hard for Mike to translate puppy love into something long term

I think in season 2, it probably could have (like please did y'all see the way Mike looked at Will?) but as of right now... I have a feeling it's not entirely one-sided, but Mike is definitely too caught up in his feelings for El at the moment. Ever since s2, I've been completely convinced Will has a crush on Mike, but seeing it now... like really seeing it, not just undertones. No it's because there are no more room for new characters. And the "right person at the wrong time" plus "the right person at the right time" makes a lot of sense to me. How many times couples broke up for the wrong reason and got back together because they evolved?
Honestly, i'm all for Mileven. I felt like their relationship was very rushed in the first season, but they were small kids, so it kind of seemed realistic. However, over the course of the seasons, their chemistry and connection have grown - although I think a lot of this happened off-screen. Their lack of communication is definitely not great, but I feel like Mike is just not good at love in general, maybe mostly because his parents are like not in love at all. El is also not that good at love, seeing as she has grown up being told one thing, but experiencing something entirely different (like with Dr. Brenner). I think it would be very cute if they could grow and learn to love together. Someone also pointed out that Mike said "I say it" very surely when El said he never says "I love you", which probably means that Mike feels like he says it through his actions, but El needs words and confirmation. I think once they are able to figure that out, their relationship could be much better. I really hope that in volume 2, Mike tells El that he loves her, and that she uses this memory to fight Vecna - just like she used the memory of her mother saying "I love you" to fight 001 in the past. Last but not least, I believe they are canonically 14-15 years old? So I personally can't really blame them for not having everything figured out lol.

I personally don't like Steve and Nancy. I do really want Steve to be happy but Nancy didn't treat him well in season 1 and 2. In season 1 she went back to Steve forcing herself to be with someone even though she loved Johnathan (she didn't wait for Johnathan). Then in season 2 she cheated on Steve before breaking off their relationship. I think that Nancy should be on her own for a while (however Nancy and Robin sounds good XD). I also think Steve should realize that he deserves to be treated better.
Finally! Although i'm a Stancy fan I did acknowledge the fact that Nancy was mistreating Steve but every single comment is the opposite. Nancy wasn't the victim in their breakup it was Steve.
I think that EL and Mike's ship is actually going to tragically wind up on the rocks unless Mike decides to go all in. I'm worried about him, mainly concerned with her extraordinary talents, like a comic book fanboy with his superhero girlfriend, and ignoring the deep trauma her lab rat upbringing. I understand they are supposed to be teanagers but... and Why would these people not realize that she is not ready for a public school setting (Shark Tank) after the type of "school" she had been kidnapped by had just done such a great job teaching her fundamental basics (sarcasm). Thats the problem with treating child like a weapon (the lab/school, Firestarter comes to mind) after she has lost her "powers" Of course she would fail and be trapped and powerless at the hands of her bullies. I hope they will make it through, truly for both of their sakes, but especially El, she needs to believe there is someone who loves her for Her not just her superpowers.
My OPINION about the byler "Issue", I've come to notice byler is a much more popular ship due to season 4, and yes it is clear Will has a thing for Mike, I believe Mike is suffering from denial, at the end of season 3, he tries to deny he told Eleven that he loves her, and now he doesn't even say it to her. A very common thing that people do is project their feelings, yes I do believe at one point Mike truly did feel something for El, I now think it is him feeling guilty. It's not only about Mike though, theres multiple issues with Eleven being in this relationship: 1:She needs to learn on her own. Eleven developed a unhealthy/obsessive relationship with mike, and since all she did was hang out with Mike after she escaped, she feels like if hes not with her, then shes lost. She needs to learn not to rely on Mike. 2: It makes her feel bad. Mike and Eleven have had multiple fights, but it seems to hurt Eleven more emotionally (or atleast in this season), this can affect the way she thinks about herself, and she does not need more issues. So, yes while it is very obvious Will has feelings for Mike, Mike isn't comfortable with it yet, so he pushes them away and tries to focus on finding a new love interest. He has become less obvious over the years, as he used to have a full binder of Will's pictures, and he had them on his wall too..when he thought Will died, he came home crying, when Will was moving, he had to hold back his tears. The Duffer Brothers / Cast hint at it all the time, in fact some of the actors are even open/obvious about shipping Byler. Mike & Will always stayed close together, and they also had rainbows involved with them alot (disclaimer: A rainbow does not make something automatically queer related, but in this case it does because of their relationship) Noah and Finn have also taken notice in their relationship and sometimes put things in the back of the show. In some episodes in season 3, they unnecessarily put them closer together, sometimes one having a hand on the others back, or sometimes touching hands (Holding hands if you will). (another DISCLAIMER:) I am a byler shipper, BUT I am not in any way trying to force you to ship it. Not shipping it is 100% okay and up to you. As long as you don't try to harass others, (it happens alot.)
I think Mike thought he loved her in season 2, but he realised through season 3 that while he cares for her, he isn't in love with her or sees her that way, but feels pressured to stay with her. And i think during the time Will and el were in Cali, he's realised he has feelings for Will, but has a lot of internalised homophobia and tried to distance himself from Will, which is why he stopped calling him, didn't send him letters and kind of ignored him when he went over to Cali
I dislike Mileven so much because Mike and Eleven are so obsessed with each other and all Mike cares about is Eleven. He abandons his friends for her, only pays attention to her, is standoffish towards everyone else except her, and Eleven fixates on him too. Their relationship is so unhealthy and sometimes I wonder if Mike truly likes Eleven. Does he like her simply because she has superpowers or does he genuinely like her and would still be with her even without her powers? I haven't watched Volume 2 yet because I have been spending the entirety of July since the month started working but that is how I feel. I need for Mileven to break up for a bit so that Eleven can realize her self worth and realize Mike doesn't define her. I need for Mike to actually start paying attention to his friends and especially his family.
My opinion: honestly I feel like for the kind of life El used to had it could have worked out better if she and Mike had more of a "sibling dynamic" type of relationship, then she could start think about romantic relationships in her late teens or in her 20s
i loved stancy in s1 but the sexual tension in s4 was just strange like they didn’t work out.. and jancy was SOOO cute in the seasons they built the ship for years then get rid of it like wtf

Ik Nancy and Mike both have problems with I love you because of their parents. We saw it with Stancy and now we are seeing it with Mileven. But with Stancy, she couldn't say I love you to Steve because she wasn't inlove with him. It was said when they were with Murray. And personally I think that's mostly why she couldn't say I love you. However I do think their parents play a part in their relationship troubles but not in the "I love you" aspect. When Nancy was getting lectured by Murray it was said that she was, "to afraid to be herself" which makes sense because her role models (her parents, mostly her mom because her dad is neglectful and doesnt care.) aren't who they really are. They're in a fake relationship and pretending to love each other and acting like this perfect family cause thats what they're "supposed to do". I think that's also the case with Stancy and Mileven. Nancy learned to be herself. She got with Jonathan and stopped pretending to be someone she's not. It's harder for Mike tho, because if he does reciprocate Will's feelings that would make him queer in the 80's. And that's the furthest from, "what you're supposed to do". (In the 80's). Again, their parents not being able to say i love you could have something to do with it. But this is just another possibility. I love you isn't the only thing their parents could've affected.
Enough with the ships, we should be focusing more on Mike and Nancy's relationship. I literally at times forget that they're supposed to be brother and sister because they share so little scenes with each other, and only have like one or two pieces of dialogue with each other per season. I wish they were paired up this season.

Sooo glad you put Stonathan so high! Personally I was like "wtf?" when you put Steve x Billy in that tier but got relieved to see Stonathan there too. Absolutely HATE Harringrove but I can't deny that Billy x Jonathan wouldn't be an interesting couple and I don't know, throw Steve in there and it'd be the ultimate throuple
Oh I hate Harringrove with a passion, that’s so absolutely toxic. Billy legit tried to murder Steve and was really just awful as a person no matter his backstory, so I really just didn’t want someone like Steve to end up with a relationship like that because like… dude went through too much and he’s already raising 3 kids lol. Personally a Steven and Eddie person atm, they both love their boy Dustin so much and it’s like a “I’m getting 2 dads now” situation.

I think the problem is that Billy's redemption didn't do anything, basically just Max suffered from it while Barb for example had a bigger effect, even though it was just Nancy who suffered the most (apart from Barb's parents of course)
Great video!! Personally, Season 3 felt like it was laying on NancyxSteve a little too heavy. Instead of feeling their chemistry naturally it’s the characters who are constantly trying to push forward the ship through obvious dialogue. I started to sense the ship not through Nancy and Steve interactions but when Dustin states how Steve was “throwing himself at Nancy” even tho he wasn’t? Feels like they’re trying too hard to quickly rekindle whatever they ditched in the last season. Idk NancyxSteve feels kinda unnatural to me. Also I personally don’t see Will as having a crush on Mike, but rather Will being a kid whose struggling with relying on his friendships as someone whose not interested in romantic relationship like the rest of them. I honestly rlly liked Will’s character because he felt so realistic as a kid/person. Will just wants all of them to keep playing dnd in their basement together, but holding onto those childhood friendships becomes tough when ur friends move onto romance and girls and that’s just not his thing. He wants Mike to send him letters like he sends them to El, but because his friend’s invested in a romantic relationship, Will feels like his platonic relationships are being neglected and he struggles with constantly feeling secondary to Mike. Maybe potentially feeling the same towards his other friends too. Mike and the rest may have SOs to rely on, but they’re all Will has.
I agree with what you said on Steve and Nancy as well. They haven’t really interacted in any real romantic way. And no Nancy checking out Steve doesn’t count, Billy did that and they’re not considered canonically romantically interested in each other. Plus to me when all the will they won’t they? Stuff is pushed by character outside the relationship, I just don’t buy it. Plus as much as Steve may still have feelings for Nancy cause those feelings don’t really just go away. He doesn’t seem to want to rekindle it with her. At least that’s how I see it.

hot take nancy shouldn’t be with steve OR jonathan, neither relationship has worked out and it seems like she just feels a compulsive need to bounce between romantic partners/pine for what she can’t have bc she’s afraid to be alone. she hasn’t really had a friend at all since barb died, and has only had boyfriends to depend on. but now she has robin as a friend (ship them on the low but only in a fanon way), which i think will be really valuable for her. you can see how happy she is when she asks robin if they’re officially friends and robin says yes, it’s really sweet. and nancy has plans to move far away for college where steve and jon won’t be anyway. i think she should just take time to be single and focus on herself.
Stonathan [Steve and Johnathan] was the only ship I was interested in during Season 1 and nothing has changed. I will go down with that ship. I never even considered pairing Steve with Billy and Eddie until I saw them being shipped everywhere recently and while its interesting and I like the idea of it, Stonathan was my first love of a pairing for this show and nothing will ever compare to it.
Tbh I woulve put Billy and Steve in the top category if billy was still alive. They had sexual tension but I also feel like they are literally 'Opposites attract' personified. They were going in the right direction and the, bam, dead

the characters didn’t forget will’s birthday, the writers did! the duffers said in an interview that was a coincidental mistake on their part. they’re going to go back to season 2 where joyce mentions his birthday and dub it over to change it from march 22 to may 22.
i am kind of concerned about the where the writing with robin and the band girl will go. i feel like unless she gets more fleshing out / screen time it’s going to feel cheap if robin is the only member of the main cast paired with someone not involved in the main conflict (even Dustin’s girlfriend has been majorly involved multiple times despite living across the country.)
i honestly don’t think they’re gonna explore that storyline much if at all which is sad and unfair, but makes sense. there’s just so much else going on that’s much more dire than a B character’s school crush, and the central cast of characters is already a huge effort to juggle. they can barely handle developing their existing mains, look at how they cast aside will mike and jonathan lol. i can’t see how they would find a way to fit the band girl into the plot meaningfully. i don’t think she was really meant to be meaningful, she was moreso just a device for developing steve and robin’s friendship dynamic and how they talk about their girl problems together. the only scene with her was comedic and more focused on tammy and steve anyway.
Honestly I think that Mike and El aren’t s much as a power couple as the directors thought they would be. Just their relationship feels awkward. Especially when you compare them to Dustin and Suzie. Dustin and Suzie kinda seem like they have a connection or a bond that’s really cute and wouldn’t be broken no matter what.
I really like Steve & Nancy but for me to be fully on board, I have to see her choose Steve. She can't fall back into Steve because Jonathon is no longer a viable option. She originally actively chose Jonathon over Steve, so for me to feel like he's not just her constellation prize, they have to find a way to show her truly choosing him. Honestly though, I would love to see her single for awhile. Maybe she and Jonathon break up at the end of this season and then next season they develop their friendship more and let the romance grow back naturally? I would love Nancy/Robin i just have 0 faith that would ever happen lol

I think Mike was simply trying to boost eleven's confidence by calling her a superhero. He obviously was madly in love with her and it had nothing to do with the superpowers. However I think 11's own insecurities made her think that he was only interested in that aspect of her.
Honestly wasn’t sure about them at first but they both grew and changed alot through the seasons so now i ship they were super cute this season, also i think them making a comeback doesn’t reverse any character development they both had separately. to me it would just mean that they both needed to grow as characters on their own to find their way back to each other to be right for eachother

I don't want her to be tied forever to Hawkins or the people she knew there. And I can say the same about the entire cast. People meet. And sometimes, they leave. Sometimes, people leave from your life unceremoniously, and people who meant the world to you are just. Memories. That feels like it should be a core message of Stranger Things: to move on.

It could just be the actor, the actor has said to have anxiety so he might not be the best with making eye contact all the time, besides I feel like if you were to actually pay attention, you'd probably see him doing the same with other characters
Lucas and Max are a great odd couple if that makes sense. Their personalities are quite different and yet they complement each other because of it. I feel like Lucas is quite a confident and assertive character while Max is more guarded and - idk insecure maybe? Which ties into her upbringing being really crappy? Also like how each is as stubborn as the other, it definitely lends a certain dynamic to their chemistry.
Dustin and Suzie need to meet IRL in the final season. I don't care how the Duffer brothers do it, they're just too cute together to be long distance. Wasn't really sure if I liked Suzie that much but after seeing her chaotic home life I'm 100% on board with seeing more of her.
Nancy and Jonathan is an unexpected one, particularly due to the circumstances of season 1, but I dunno the spark between these two is undeniable. Please don't let this be the writers allowing them to grow closer only for one to be killed off! My heart couldn't take it!
Will and Mike can never happen. I've gone through the five stages of shipping these two and have now finished my journey at acceptance. Mike doesn't like him back in that way, but wouldn't that be an incredible plot twist? I think Will needs a boyfriend though for sure, somebody who loves him as much as the fandom does.

Jonathan has communication issues that most probably date back to his childhood and Nancy has a habit of getting too caught up in herself to think of others, both of which aren’t exactly good traits for a relationship. I think they should try working on those issues first before attempting a relationship with each other, especially long distance.

Personally, Steve and Nancy is a big nope for me. They developed so much past their relationship in season 1/small bit of season 2, and it was good to see them remain friends past the toxicity that had kind of been present during their relationship. And season 3 was really a lot of Steve being able to move on and feel ok again after what he’d gone through, especially with his acceptance of Robin being gay. I personally crave Steve and Eddie being a thing because their dynamic was great, Steve being bisexual just makes sense for his character and would really add an extra level of besties to him and Robin because they can bond over loving women AND being not at all straight. Give me Steve and Eddie Netflix, give me popular himbo with a heart of gold and the emo nerd who’s going through it, that’s the mlm shit we deserve

I agree also when mileven got together, El was still processing a lot of trauma and she hadn’t even really developed her own personality because she was still learning about everything and basically adapting to a whole different world, way different then how she grew up. Mike lost his best friend and that is traumatic as well. El just kind of went along with what was happening but I feel like if mileven met at another time like in the future where they got to learn, grow and develop their own personalities more instead of being traumatized and vulnerable, they wouldn’t be together.

I think it's because Eleven was the first girl Mike got to know that wasn't disgusted by him and wasn't his own family. As Mike was shown to be bullied, and a bit of a loser, it would make sense that he'd begin to like the only girl who ever took interest in him. Over time, it just gets weirder and weirder. He acts like a complete asshole to Max in S2 because he doesn't want Max to replace El, and even after he gets El back, doesn't apologize to Max for being a douchebag. Then in S3, he ignores all of his friends in favor of making out with his girlfriends. It was cute in S1 and 2, but S3 marks their phase where they can't stop sucking each other's faces or hanging off each other for one second. Mike acts like he needs to protect her from everything and then has that really awkward outburst that he loves her, then in S4 completely ignores Will once again in favor of pretending El is the only other person in the world.
I just really hate that Mike begins to shit on others in favor of El. Dustin just gets back from summer camp and he legit only cares about making out with El as soon as possible, despite the fact they cling to each other every waking second of the day. It's just annoying that Mike begins to be a douchebag to everyone but Eleven, and just flat-out ignores others.
El, on the other hand, I completely dislike her side of liking Mike in the story. I really hate that she hyper fixates on him just because he's the first person to ever give her any compassion or treat her with respect. In S1, the only person she says goodbye to is Mike. She only apologizes to him. She only cares about getting back to him in S2, with Lucas and Dustin being an extra bonus. It feels like the only person who exists in her world until S3 is Mike. The second she breaks up with him and goes on a girls trip with Max, I like El. She gets to learn the world from the eyes of someone other than Mike, she gets to feel like a girl, go shopping, learn what she likes and doesn't like, how to have fun. Before, she didn't even go near Max because she was jealous of the one time she saw another girl so much as interacting with Mike.
i think byler is a total possibility after volume 2 and all the little hints and build up (mikes LITERAL heart eyes in the van scene) also even if byler doesn’t happen i dont think mileven will last tbh. its a trauma bond and el got in this relationship right out of the lab but i feel like now she has more sense of herself and will realize that she doesn’t need mike as much as she thought she did

Honestly, i'm all for Mileven. I felt like their relationship was very rushed in the first season, but they were small kids, so it kind of seemed realistic. However, over the course of the seasons, their chemistry and connection have grown - although I think a lot of this happened off-screen. Their lack of communication is definitely not great, but I feel like Mike is just not good at love in general, maybe mostly because his parents are like not in love at all. El is also not that good at love, seeing as she has grown up being told one thing, but experiencing something entirely different (like with Dr. Brenner). I think it would be very cute if they could grow and learn to love together. Someone also pointed out that Mike said "I say it" very surely when El said he never says "I love you", which probably means that Mike feels like he says it through his actions, but El needs words and confirmation. I think once they are able to figure that out, their relationship could be much better. I really hope that in volume 2, Mike tells El that he loves her, and that she uses this memory to fight Vecna - just like she used the memory of her mother saying "I love you" to fight 001 in the past. Last but not least, I believe they are canonically 14-15 years old? So I personally can't really blame them for not having everything figured out lol.

I recently saw that and was really surprised. Personally, I don't ship Harringgrove, but if they can make a fic that fits the characters' progression and a slow-building relationship, I can get on board.

I personally don't like Steve and Nancy. I do really want Steve to be happy but Nancy didn't treat him well in season 1 and 2. In season 1 she went back to Steve forcing herself to be with someone even though she loved Johnathan (she didn't wait for Johnathan). Then in season 2 she cheated on Steve before breaking off their relationship. I think that Nancy should be on her own for a while (however Nancy and Robin sounds good XD). I also think Steve should realize that he deserves to be treated better.
Finally! Although i'm a Stancy fan I did acknowledge the fact that Nancy was mistreating Steve but every single comment is the opposite. Nancy wasn't the victim in their breakup it was Steve.
I think that EL and Mike's ship is actually going to tragically wind up on the rocks unless Mike decides to go all in. I'm worried about him, mainly concerned with her extraordinary talents, like a comic book fanboy with his superhero girlfriend, and ignoring the deep trauma her lab rat upbringing. I understand they are supposed to be teanagers but... and Why would these people not realize that she is not ready for a public school setting (Shark Tank) after the type of "school" she had been kidnapped by had just done such a great job teaching her fundamental basics (sarcasm). Thats the problem with treating child like a weapon (the lab/school, Firestarter comes to mind) after she has lost her "powers" Of course she would fail and be trapped and powerless at the hands of her bullies. I hope they will make it through, truly for both of their sakes, but especially El, she needs to believe there is someone who loves her for Her not just her superpowers.

and yes it is clear Will has a thing for Mike, I believe Mike is suffering from denial, at the end of season 3, he tries to deny he told Eleven that he loves her, and now he doesn't even say it to her. A very common thing that people do is project their feelings, yes I do believe at one point Mike
truly did feel something for El, I now think it is him feeling guilty. It's not only about Mike though, theres multiple issues with Eleven being in this relationship:
1:She needs to learn on her own. Eleven developed a unhealthy/obsessive relationship with mike, and since all she did was hang out with Mike after she escaped, she feels like if hes not with her, then shes lost. She needs to learn not to rely on Mike.
2: It makes her feel bad. Mike and Eleven have had multiple fights, but it seems to hurt Eleven more emotionally (or atleast in this season), this can affect the way she thinks about herself, and she does not need more issues.
So, yes while it is very obvious Will has feelings for Mike, Mike isn't comfortable with it yet, so he pushes them away and tries to focus on finding a new love interest. He has become less obvious over the years, as he used to have a full binder of Will's pictures, and he had them on his wall too..when he thought Will died, he came home crying, when Will was moving, he had to hold back his tears.
The Duffer Brothers / Cast hint at it all the time, in fact some of the actors are even open/obvious about shipping Byler. Mike & Will always stayed close together, and they also had rainbows involved with them alot (disclaimer: A rainbow does not make something automatically queer related, but in this case it does because of their relationship) Noah and Finn have also taken notice in their relationship and sometimes put things in the back of the show. In some episodes in season 3, they unnecessarily put them closer together, sometimes one having a hand on the others back, or sometimes touching hands (Holding hands if you will).

I think Mike thought he loved her in season 2, but he realised through season 3 that while he cares for her, he isn't in love with her or sees her that way, but feels pressured to stay with her. And i think during the time Will and el were in Cali, he's realised he has feelings for Will, but has a lot of internalised homophobia and tried to distance himself from Will, which is why he stopped calling him, didn't send him letters and kind of ignored him when he went over to Cali
I dislike Mileven so much because Mike and Eleven are so obsessed with each other and all Mike cares about is Eleven. He abandons his friends for her, only pays attention to her, is standoffish towards everyone else except her, and Eleven fixates on him too. Their relationship is so unhealthy and sometimes I wonder if Mike truly likes Eleven. Does he like her simply because she has superpowers or does he genuinely like her and would still be with her even without her powers? I haven't watched Volume 2 yet because I have been spending the entirety of July since the month started working but that is how I feel. I need for Mileven to break up for a bit so that Eleven can realize her self worth and realize Mike doesn't define her. I need for Mike to actually start paying attention to his friends and especially his family.

Ik Nancy and Mike both have problems with I love you because of their parents. We saw it with Stancy and now we are seeing it with Mileven. But with Stancy, she couldn't say I love you to Steve because she wasn't inlove with him. It was said when they were with Murray. And personally I think that's mostly why she couldn't say I love you. However I do think their parents play a part in their relationship troubles but not in the "I love you" aspect. When Nancy was getting lectured by Murray it was said that she was, "to afraid to be herself" which makes sense because her role models (her parents, mostly her mom because her dad is neglectful and doesnt care.) aren't who they really are. They're in a fake relationship and pretending to love each other and acting like this perfect family cause thats what they're "supposed to do". I think that's also the case with Stancy and Mileven. Nancy learned to be herself. She got with Jonathan and stopped pretending to be someone she's not. It's harder for Mike tho, because if he does reciprocate Will's feelings that would make him queer in the 80's. And that's the furthest from, "what you're supposed to do". (In the 80's). Again, their parents not being able to say i love you could have something to do with it. But this is just another possibility. I love you isn't the only thing their parents could've affected.
Enough with the ships, we should be focusing more on Mike and Nancy's relationship. I literally at times forget that they're supposed to be brother and sister because they share so little scenes with each other, and only have like one or two pieces of dialogue with each other per season. I wish they were paired up this season.
Sooo glad you put Stonathan so high! Personally I was like "wtf?" when you put Steve x Billy in that tier but got relieved to see Stonathan there too. Absolutely HATE Harringrove but I can't deny that Billy x Jonathan wouldn't be an interesting couple and I don't know, throw Steve in there and it'd be the ultimate throuple
Oh I hate Harringrove with a passion, that’s so absolutely toxic. Billy legit tried to murder Steve and was really just awful as a person no matter his backstory, so I really just didn’t want someone like Steve to end up with a relationship like that because like… dude went through too much and he’s already raising 3 kids lol. Personally a Steven and Eddie person atm, they both love their boy Dustin so much and it’s like a “I’m getting 2 dads now” situation.

Personally, Season 3 felt like it was laying on NancyxSteve a little too heavy. Instead of feeling their chemistry naturally it’s the characters who are constantly trying to push forward the ship through obvious dialogue. I started to sense the ship not through Nancy and Steve interactions but when Dustin states how Steve was “throwing himself at Nancy” even tho he wasn’t? Feels like they’re trying too hard to quickly rekindle whatever they ditched in the last season. Idk NancyxSteve feels kinda unnatural to me.
Also I personally don’t see Will as having a crush on Mike, but rather Will being a kid whose struggling with relying on his friendships as someone whose not interested in romantic relationship like the rest of them. I honestly rlly liked Will’s character because he felt so realistic as a kid/person. Will just wants all of them to keep playing dnd in their basement together, but holding onto those childhood friendships becomes tough when ur friends move onto romance and girls and that’s just not his thing. He wants Mike to send him letters like he sends them to El, but because his friend’s invested in a romantic relationship, Will feels like his platonic relationships are being neglected and he struggles with constantly feeling secondary to Mike. Maybe potentially feeling the same towards his other friends too. Mike and the rest may have SOs to rely on, but they’re all Will has.

I agree with what you said on Steve and Nancy as well. They haven’t really interacted in any real romantic way. And no Nancy checking out Steve doesn’t count, Billy did that and they’re not considered canonically romantically interested in each other. Plus to me when all the will they won’t they? Stuff is pushed by character outside the relationship, I just don’t buy it.
Plus as much as Steve may still have feelings for Nancy cause those feelings don’t really just go away. He doesn’t seem to want to rekindle it with her. At least that’s how I see it.

hot take nancy shouldn’t be with steve OR jonathan, neither relationship has worked out and it seems like she just feels a compulsive need to bounce between romantic partners/pine for what she can’t have bc she’s afraid to be alone. she hasn’t really had a friend at all since barb died, and has only had boyfriends to depend on. but now she has robin as a friend (ship them on the low but only in a fanon way), which i think will be really valuable for her. you can see how happy she is when she asks robin if they’re officially friends and robin says yes, it’s really sweet. and nancy has plans to move far away for college where steve and jon won’t be anyway. i think she should just take time to be single and focus on herself.
Stonathan [Steve and Johnathan] was the only ship I was interested in during Season 1 and nothing has changed. I will go down with that ship. I never even considered pairing Steve with Billy and Eddie until I saw them being shipped everywhere recently and while its interesting and I like the idea of it, Stonathan was my first love of a pairing for this show and nothing will ever compare to it.

the characters didn’t forget will’s birthday, the writers did! the duffers said in an interview that was a coincidental mistake on their part. they’re going to go back to season 2 where joyce mentions his birthday and dub it over to change it from march 22 to may 22.
i am kind of concerned about the where the writing with robin and the band girl will go. i feel like unless she gets more fleshing out / screen time it’s going to feel cheap if robin is the only member of the main cast paired with someone not involved in the main conflict (even Dustin’s girlfriend has been majorly involved multiple times despite living across the country.)
i honestly don’t think they’re gonna explore that storyline much if at all which is sad and unfair, but makes sense. there’s just so much else going on that’s much more dire than a B character’s school crush, and the central cast of characters is already a huge effort to juggle. they can barely handle developing their existing mains, look at how they cast aside will mike and jonathan lol. i can’t see how they would find a way to fit the band girl into the plot meaningfully. i don’t think she was really meant to be meaningful, she was moreso just a device for developing steve and robin’s friendship dynamic and how they talk about their girl problems together. the only scene with her was comedic and more focused on tammy and steve anyway.

Honestly I think that Mike and El aren’t s much as a power couple as the directors thought they would be. Just their relationship feels awkward. Especially when you compare them to Dustin and Suzie. Dustin and Suzie kinda seem like they have a connection or a bond that’s really cute and wouldn’t be broken no matter what.
I really like Steve & Nancy but for me to be fully on board, I have to see her choose Steve. She can't fall back into Steve because Jonathon is no longer a viable option. She originally actively chose Jonathon over Steve, so for me to feel like he's not just her constellation prize, they have to find a way to show her truly choosing him. Honestly though, I would love to see her single for awhile. Maybe she and Jonathon break up at the end of this season and then next season they develop their friendship more and let the romance grow back naturally?
