    Look great, good cheap option, would like to see how well they do after a few good heat cycles too. A lot of the forums about the headers for the 4.7 basically tell you to avoid everything if it's not great SS or Ceramic coated, or tell you to spend the money elsewhere because of the undocumented dyno gains per the cost of the headers and any add muffler shop costs if you went that route.

    I got a set of DNA long tubes for my 06 300C hemi, paid just under $200 Canadian about 4-5 years ago. Very satisfied with the quality and installation being in such a cramped engine bay. My only complaint is the supplied gaskets which are garbage not even 3k (kilometers) and had one fail, i put on some oem ones and haven't had any issues, they sound amazing too. Super happy I saved my money compared to the much higher priced ones from the competition
    I was tempted to buy these for my 03 ram but I don't know if they will fit since they say its for an 04 and up ram which is strange because there's no visable difference compared to the 02 or 03 compared to the 04. The suspension wasn't changed on the rams till 06 with the face-lift rams utilizing the front coils. Been wanting to make some long tubes for the 4.7 because I don't think anyone makes them

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would think these DNA headers would fit your Ram..
      Yeah, the only company that makes long tube headers for the 4.7 is Doug Thorley, and they are only made to fit the Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ.

    I found a y-pipe on Rock Auto that has the single cat. I have a 2001 Dakota QC with the 4.7 and I have these exact same headers. I haven't installed either the headers or catalytic converter (y-pipe), yet. My only concern is the fitting from the header to the y-pipe. There seems to be a very small amount of overlap to seal it. I love your videos. Keep up the good work.

      I wonder if the soft bolts (4.8) are strengthening from the heat and that is why you need to retighten them. I am planning on replacing the bolts with these or other hardened header bolts.

    Think they will work with the factory crossover and H02 sensors for the Durango? Wish they had something for the Jeep GC. I'm doing a HO conversion, VIN N to Vin J and would prefer some sort of shorty factory header to the stock manifolds. I want it to breath so I can use the AirRam adaptors and put the Eaton SC from the Mustang on top. Great Video! Thank you for "pioneering" these!
    Edit: My 2000 Durango 4X4 SLT 4.7/545RFE code "N" for North East US sale doesn't have the pre-cats. There is only the large crossover and a fat full size cat after the Y pipe goes into one. Before the intermediate pipe there is an upstream H02, the Catalyst and a post cat H02. Maybe that crossover should work off the shelf, or give you something to model off of.
    Cheers to you, Martin!

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe these headers will work with factory crossover and the O2 sensors. I'll have to look into that Y-pipe with out the pre-cats.
      Thank you you for watching!😎

    martin, great information. have a 03 club cab 2wd slt, cherry red. i live in kansas- yes the rust belt. already went to electric cooling fan, new lifters, new sryle rockers, full duals , performance cats, flowmaster with x pipe. their is not a pick a part within 100 miles of me. i'm 67 and use a walker to get around, but i still love driving my little truck. if you run into a set of the 17 wheels that were a factory option, and a set of 08 cams n springs i really could use a little help. also i was watching you pull the gm 6 cylinder superchargers and wondered if you had given any thought of modifying the mounting plate/manifold to fit over the valley on the 4.7? oh i am willing to joyfully pay for the parts and your time if you can help. thanks jeff

    I was looking at these but didn't trust em wasn't sure and my truck had new manifolds installed right before i bought it so i figure why bother for now. May buy some and put em on the shelf and save for when i replace my rusting y pipe. Everything past the y pipe is new last year, new stock exhaust with an electric cutout and a second straightpipe leg all the way out the back too.

      Same, here. Especially the Chinesium. "SS304 rated" but I'm still on the fence of doing it, for the bit of power you might gain (butt dyno) because s lot of the forums talked about it being a 3hr job to remove the stock headers and swap, but never show any dyno before/afters. Plus not everyone can do a header swap in their garage. So figure a couple hundred bucks at a muffler shop to hope they last long enough to be worth the headache, if you or they don't break any muffler bolts getting the broke free from your 20 year old motor. I'd rather save the funds for whenever the current 4.7 decides to need work or depending on parts:cost just do the Holley Hemi swap or get a 360 Mag for it.

  • @ElectricBillAlbright
    @ElectricBillAlbright 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Love your video, I've been on the fence about getting a set of headers for my 2004 Dakota 4.7. I think I might get a set of these. I know I will need to have the exhaust ran custom from the headers back, but by chance do those headers line up to the factory pipes on the truck?
    Also a tip for those header bolts which I agree with changing them to grade 8. First thing when you had that package of bolts I was thinking low grade because they weren't dark colored like high carbon steel. I would put anti-seize anti- galling compound on the threads, being dissimilar metals, aluminum and steel. Same with spark plugs . 👍👍👍

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hard part is finding these headers. Yes, they should bolt directly to the stock Y-pipe or cats.

    For the Bolts hardness they recommended them due to heat and vibrations. They’re more forgiving than a higher grade. Also says Do Not use neverseize… idk why they’d recommend it…

    Looks like the best way is if the engine is out of the vehicle? Would those fit on a 08 4.7? Also, I have a issue going on in mine? And wanted to pick your brain?? I keep getting a 2096 bank 1 fuel trim lean? I’ve inspected the manifolds all good. Replaced gaskets and bolts. Replaced all 4 O2 sensors with boush. Replaced map sensor and checked the rest of the exhaust all the way back. And the light has come on and off for the past month. I have cleaned the mass flow sensor too. Still same. Do you have any other ideas? And do you have any headers you know of that would fit my 08 dodge Durango 4.7? Thanks. Need more content too😊

      A reversible drill and drill bit will help get it out as well as screw extractor or Easy Out as they are called. Use a center punch tool to give the pit a hole to start out and will keep it centered so you can drill the hole in the center. Some mild heat from a Mapp torch would likely help as well, not too much the head is aluminum. You can pull the inner fenders on both sides and that makes it easier with the wheel/tire off to access the exhaust manifold bolts and studs/ heat shield nuts on both sides. Good Luck.

    Had my 2000 Dakota 4.7 do something a couple of weeks ago that's made me wonder what is going on with it...
    After idling for about 25 minutes in a long drive-thru line, as I was pulling out onto the street, saw a huge plume of thick white smoke coming from the tailpipe... it was alarming, so I stopped very quickly and let it cool down (it didn't get hot, but honestly didn't know what the heck was happening)... I checked my oil and coolant levels, thinking it was a head gasket, but when I started it up again, no smoke at all and ran normal.
    Any idea what the heck this could be? I have quit driving it as a result.

I didn’t change them all out yet cause yooper Michigan working out in the cold. Still took me 3hrs or so to get 3 of them done. Only cause I had to run inside and out from it being to cold on the hands. But check this TH-cam video out on the Y-Pipe 👇👇

      @@martinbuilt They are susposed to. Some techs do and some don't. My truck has CARB approved headers(not sure of the manufactuer) my father installed (I've inheareted this '02SLT Quadcab) at some point. There is a CARB(California Air Resources Board) exempt tag welded to the headers, so maybe that is what the tech is looking for. I've never been asked about them. With that said, we even have CA specific cats that you "must" use. They apparently have more palladium or platinum in them and cost at least twice as much. They are looking for a specific number on the main cat and maybe the pre-cats(but those are very difficult to see so they usually don't look at those).
      I have been called out on not having the "correct" cat when I had a pre cat go bad and replaced the entire system with a 49 state version. Though is passed with flying colors, they faild me. Only the pre cat was bad, so I cut the good CA main cat off and spliced it back in the system. Went back and tested again and they said nothing...oh and the sniffer numbers did not change. Now they don't even do a sniffer test. OBDII only and they are just looking for rediness "ok" and no CEL. This state is a nightmare and only getting worse.
      On a different tangent, I'm looking for a Quadcab 4x4 skid plate/guards (factory). They will be made out of composite material with deep corrigated construction. There is a front and a rear. I'm looking for both or even just a single. If you ever come across some in the yards I'm very interested in purchasing them (with a finders fee of course). Thanks for all you do to support this make/model. Very helpful!

    Don't buy I ran these on my 2005 dakota the fit was good and the sound and horsepower gains where ok but a year in the egr tube blew totally off leaving a gaping whole in the collectors. They bolt up great fit great other then back cylinders on the engine are square shaped and the headers are round so it only mates a small section . Loved them while they lasted but there not good long term
