I'm in this category and coming up on middle age soon. The reason why I have avoided a lot of these problems is specifically because I have a stable/supportive family. I lived with my parents into my early 20s working retail and factory jobs. I imagine if I had child support payments or was kicked out at 18 I would be struggling now, but I'm getting by fine renting and working a low paying factory job in an area with fairly low cost of living. There's a huge chunk of us that just had to lower life expectations.

No friends or unalienated family members is a common denominator amongst callers to crisis hotlines (my experience).

Thank you for breaking down the charts for the visually-impaired. Much appreciated.

Horrific to think about, honestly. I mean, I feel something of it in my everyday life too. Dare I ask if you know of more resources on a topic like this?

I know this isn't the Marxist definition of class but can we please do better this this stupid CNN poll definition? Not having a 4-year college degree is incredibly meaningless an indicator because it includes:
    - Men with 2 year degrees
    - Men who went to college and dropped out
    - Older men/retirees who didn't go to college and could get a good job before the 1980s
    - Men who are small business owners
    etc. etc.
Could we at least do it by income??

income is arguably much more unreliable. the average tradesworker makes roughly the same as the average 4 year degree holder. unionized trades often earn more. no one would argue the trades are not working class

@@fentyslides Yes though marxists would argue the opposite: that white collar workers are also working class, which is kind of the point.

Absence of a four-year college degree is probably a pretty good proxy for blue-collar working class, but by no means a perfect one (but yeah - probably a better one than income). So we have a (rough) comparison of blue-collar men vs all other men (including non working class men).... would be interesting to cross-tab with income also though as that might allow teasing out of how much of the disparity is material vs cultural....

"you replaced it with nothing good" I raise you gacha games LOL Well not sure how good that is but it's hard to not see the offspring substituting effects there. On that note I wonder how pet ownership is developing as well.

Oh yeah I sure wonder if being trans for men has a particular draw here as well.

On the first bar section you've been mixing up Non-WC Men and WC Women just saying in case it's still not clear, haven't watched much further yet.

Yeah, in several of the charts the categories are described incorrectly, eg., at the 18-min mark the comparison is read and discussed as between working class men and working class women, when it's actually between working class men and non-working class men.
