I like how all these top 10 grandmasters were playing some high level openings and then Hikaru just came in with the 500 ELO fried liver and it was so low level that his opponent didn’t even expect it and lost.

In Italian the Fried Liver it's called 🇮🇹Fegatello from a famous dish (more commonly know as fegatelli, plural) based on pork liver! Here you go 💪

it actually looks like a pretty good combo to me, some nice contrast here. some combo's make it harder to see the diagonals or where the knights will go but this one is very clear

The refutation for those who dont know is after Ng5 is d5, exd5, Na5, Bb5+, c6. Black is still down but your piece are active and you have good chances.
U missed moves. After c6 dxc6 bxc6 and if Ba4 then h6 making the game - 1.5 so black is much better. If after bxc6 B move to a d3 or e2 its 0.4
That's just a main line, not a 'refutation'.

Fegatello = fegato (liver) + ‘ello’ (‘e’ letter gets dropped) (a way to alter a word to give it a positive emotional context, in this case maybe sarcastic. This is called vezzeggiativo). A little liver will be fegatino a big liver fegatone a bad liver fegataccio. Just examples of other alterations

I thought the name "fried liver" came from the notion that you'd have to be extremely drunk to attempt this opening and the alcohol is literally frying your liver.

It’s called fried liver because the fegatello is usually wrapped in caul before being fried. And the Italians thought that this attack resembled that somehow. The king gets wrapped before he gets fried.
