@@beybladerkid5489 I really liked Megamind, good movie, great characters, excellent story, no critique from me.
However, seeing the villain turn good NOT because he was good all along and he was a empathetic and caring guy, but because of these cute obnoxious little monsters, that sneaked into his tiny heart, it spoke to me... He had no shred of sympathy to speak of until his fatherly instincts kicked in.
It's movies like these that make me realize how badly I want to be a father someday... It was really well-done in my opinion, and never done before to my knowledge... Illumination is not exactly known for their originality, so gotta give them some credit.

Sing 2 is the EXACT same plot as the first movie: Buster lies himself into a major production with his ragtag group of amateur singers, and they need to win over a reclusive older performer in order to pull it off. The older performer refuses until the 11th hour when they see the ~passion~ of Buster's troupe, and swoop in to save the day.
I mean it's not just superficial, it IS the same plot. Like they wanted a do over on the first one or something.
Edit: Oh also how did Johnny's dad get out of prison so fast after not only a major robbery but jailbreak too? There were a lot of plot holes but I think that was the most egregious.

I personally enjoyed it. One thing I think people forget about movies is that they’re supposed to be entertainment first. Doesn’t necessarily need a reason to exist, other than entertaining people. The fact that it did pretty well in box office kinda proves this. Not everything needs to be some groundbreaking film that pushes the envelope and such.
While I would agree that people would benefit from really good movies, we also need regular movies that are generic. Those movies around to give brief respite, and allow us to enjoy the regular stuff.

Not too long ago, I needed to watch something stupid, I put on shrek. I have depression, and when that really hits me I need to watch something gruesome/scary/depressing, hunger games fills that (divergent will probably be next).
Bambi is a classic, but dead simple film (I like it, just saying). Inside out doesn't have any villains or big conflict or disaster to resolve besides one person's world, yet people love it for that very reason.
Many films can do many things, you can't say you like something because of the overarching badass storyline, AND say you like something because it's just a simple, beautiful story, THEN say that a film is bad because it's aimless fun... ummmm, hello? People like that sort of thing?
In case it wasn't clear, I agree with you, people need to start judging quality, not the content itself. Otherwise you get horror fans reviewing kids cartoons and saying there's not enough violence. Was Sonic an amazing film? No. But was it good for its target audience? It was fun, funny, engaging and used Sonic to his full potential, so yes. And that second question is all that really matters.

@@arnold20139 Yeah he could have at least been mentioned. Ash could have said to Clay Calloway: I guess I know what you go through. It is not sadness that keeps you in this state but guilt. Sadness comes from it. We feel guilty we didn't love others as much as they need it. You know I also lost a friend he was called Mike. We didn't know each other for long it but he helped to fullfill my biggest dream and that made our bond strong. I blamed myself that if I did smth back then maybe I could have saved him. But I couldn't. I had my own problems I was going through break up. He did not communicate his problems to us he played tough guy so we thought he was fine. And then Bear Mafia got him for messing up with some big fish of theirs. But everyone is responsibile for their health and he should have said how he feel about his deeds and emotions instead of running from them. You also had loads of work on your back. Concerts and interwiews. You feel guilty that you didn't spend enough time with her. But she should have taken care of her health. Everyone should take cancer tests regularily.
Clay: It's not as simple as it sounds. Sometimes we cannot find good words
Ash: I didn't mean to sound cold. My point is that we cannot prevent all tragedies and if those whom we thought close really loved us they would want best for us and they would except our decisions. Only you know what's best for you even if sometimes emotions cloud our judgements. You may not find what you were looking for long but the very act of searching is satistifying enough to move on and and on. And this is where satisfaction comes from reaching for goal not achieving it.

Even studios like Sony Animation and Blue Sky (at the time), that don't have the best track record when it comes to quality, can make something fantastic and rewatachble for a long time. @Ana Sevi If Disney really wanted to appeal to certain cultures and minorities on Twitter, they'd actually make full-length movies about it. Instead, they typically advertise what may spark minorities interest by including in ONE short scene something valuable while still being entirely vague about it and / or incorrect. Disney definitely plays both sides in the worst way, I do agree. However, Pixar I argue is the far superior animation company. The problem with illumination is that the content is typically pandering and dumbing down the audience in most of their films. For instance, it's why they market the Minions with lowbrow humor instead of making something engaging for a child, like say any Toy story movie. Studios like Laika and Studio Ghibli also have good movies for families, not necessarily for children, but for anyone to enjoy. Ponyo or even Boxtrolls and Paranorman come to mind as great movies kids and adults alike can enjoy. Movies don't have to be just for a young audience, Pixar has proved many small children enjoy their movies while maintaining that quality seal for any age to enjoy.

I find it hilarious that minor characters from the previous movie (Johnny's dad and Rosita's husband) had better character development than Moon himself.

    • @imaran1303
      @imaran1303 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Maybe because major character flaws don't disappear overnight? Rosita's husband has never been shown to be abusive or anything towards his wife, both of them obviously were exhausted with the day to day grind, but we had no evidence that Rosita's husband would EVER shit on her dreams or not support her. As for Johnny's dad, all the dad knew is that Johnny was flubbing on him because Johnny was too afraid to tell his dad what was going on. But we know that he loved his son, which is why he was willing to give him a important job to begin with, a job on which their freedom hinged, but when he saw what Johnny really wanted, and saw that he was good at it, he never showed that he wouldn't understand.
Buster? He lies when he gets nervous, it is a negative character flaw, and such flaws don't disappear over night, he fell back into his old habits but this time, he didn't just do it for himself, everyone's dreams was hinging on this to work, so he didn't just lie for himself, he lied for the sake of his cast who also were excited to play in the big leagues. And it doesn't overshadow Buster's 'superpower'. The ability to see the talent in the people he casts, willing to push them past their comfort zones because he knows they will grow, adapt and become better for it.

I honestly LOVED this movie. It's Illumination's best in terms of visuals, imo. The hotel/theater/show design blew me away. I'm not jazzed about regular actors being VAs for the sake of popularity, but those casted did a good job. I was really rooting for our main cast from the 1st film. Perfect sequel, instant comfort movie. It doesn't need to be on par with Disney to be a great film.

It is so odd to me that no one is talking about that. It also felt random that she went from spoiled brat calling for her daddy when things did not go her way, to suddenly basically throwing a middle finger to her dad and singing in the show. A lot of things about porsha felt out of nowhere.

I genuinely enjoy the Sing movies. In my opinion, it's all about the spectacle of performing and the plot is just a minor bonus. There doesn't need to be a dynamic storyline when the point is to come and enjoy the music with very pleasing visuals. People may not enjoy that, but I do. It brings me back to my childhood where I'd imagine characters singing and dancing to songs I'd hear on the radio. This is a more glorified version of a child's musical imagination and I am verily grateful for it!

I disagree but i can understand and respect your opinion. Specifically about movie one (because i have actually watched that one) To me if it was about the music and visuals, they underused it (a lot). Many of the characters were ugly and/or reused character models. In fact the movie isnt really very outstanding visually at all. And in the music department, if i remember right, all of the songs were covers. Finally, i do not remember any creative visuals. And yes, they do have a target audience in mind and a target goal: money. However, I do not think art should be soley for money with little regard for quality. I think that they can still make good stuff with a goal of money, they did not need an outstanding plot or anything but more effort in visuals and music would have changed my mind somewhat.

It's not a trend... the media to which those wolf characters belong have numerous OTHER anthro animal species too, it's just that the canine/wolf characters are always the most popular and receive the most attention from people bc *you know why* :v To this day, I still don't understand why the furry fandom is so obsessed with wolves, of all animals.

Everything in this movie was genius. I went in to see this movie with "meh" expectations since I thought the first one was just okay. I am so glad to be proven wrong. I'm not ashamed to admit that this is one of my new favorite animated films.
I loved Johnny's arc in particular - Taron played him PERFECTLY, his emotions were so real. The conflict between him and Klaus and the immediate bond between him and Nooshy was so inspiring, and to see him flourishingly rise above Klaus's abuse in "Sky Full Of Stars"... I was bouncing in my seat and cheering him on. Of course, everyone else's stories were played out phenomenally, too.
And the songs, oh my gosh the SONGS! I resonated with every single song in this film and every song fit perfectly with what was going on and they fit the situations perfectly. But generally speaking, to have such a mix of current and less current music woven together so perfectly is beautiful.
I'm not a U2 fan because I was never really exposed to their music but that does not lessen the impact of Clay Calloway's (Bono) storyline. His connection with Ash got me misty-eyed a few times, and whenever one of his songs was sung in the movie it was always acoustic and slow and solemn, which added so much to how revered his character was in the universe, and felt like a love letter to Bono really.
I also really loved how each character is an animal that fits their emotions. Johnny is a gorilla who is trying to find himself and eventually lives up to the confidence his father wants him to have. Meena is an awkward elephant who’s socially awkward. Buster is a cute unintimidating koala while Crystal is a viscous wolf. Finally, Clay is a lion who’s intimidating at times, but is really soft on the inside.
Also: props to illumination for giving us a gutsy villain who's willing to do whatever he thinks it takes to get his way. I was pleasantly surprised to see how dark Mr. Crystal was, but that could be just me (I love older darker kids movies like An American Tail or The Black Cauldron and you just don't see movies leaning into that side nowadays).
Every character got just enough screen time and story to make me care about them and as a theater kid, I appreciate how we see the strings attached to the final production - wires, harnesses, etc. that really make the show seem applicable to real life.
TLDR for this passionate rant: I freaking loved this movie. Best animated film of the year in my opinion and I'll be buying it on DVD as soon as it's available. An amazing cast with a well-thought-out storyline and stunning visuals and music choices. My deepest admiration to Garth Jennings for this masterpiece of a film.

Tbh I didn't think the premise was all that dumb, I liked it. It makes sense, you want your cast of people to be seen as something more than just a local acting troupe. And you want important performance people to see that as well. But I guess I could see why you thought it was pointless since he worked hard for his theatre and just said, "nah I wanna preform on the big stage" but I mean he never said they were never coming back to the theatre, just that he wants his troupe to be seen and recognized, and you do that either through reviews, advertising, traveling performances, etc. Also I think I didn't dislike too much about sing one and two because there just fun, like the characters are fun, and they don't really need to be more than that for these movies. They captivate you enough to enjoy, but not to where your like "omg that's me" and like have a deep connection.

Also, Porsha and Nooshy are definitely furry bait, especially Porsha. I'd be surprised if that wasn't at least part of the intention. Porsha is actually the character in this movie who I have the most mixed opinions about. She is annoying for most of the movie, but has a complete turnaround in the climax during the show. I love how she just doesn't care, and goes against her father.

I loved these, probably because of the performances. I think it's so sweet how the lion obviously loved every aspect of his lat wife, he kept her wheelchair, he wanted her in every phase she went through. The whole cast basically were following the message of success being relative. I loved it entirely, it was thoroughly conceived message. Even if you tried your best, sometimes it won't be good enough for those you idolize.

I disagree, I loved these movies. It’s about art and dreams and what will you do to actually get to your goal. You can be pure and innocent and have the best intentions but still lie to get what you want. In that industry, you have to prove yourself again and again not only to others who look down on you but also prove to yourself. Each character has their own struggles and strengths.
And they’re animals to make them more relatable than humans can. Just cuz it’s not like zootopia or beastars, animal characters have always been used to make them more relatable to people. Like Winnie the pooh or any kids show with animals. Or bed time stories.
Idk, I enjoy both complex and lore driven stories but also love simplistic fun stories with a few lessons and emotional moments. Thank you for the video as always ^^/

I adored Sing 2 from start to finish! I watched Johnny's song like 20 times. It truly is a masterful story about following your passions, and the songs hit just right, I felt like I can really sympathize with the characters, the villains are just the right amount of evil... And we get such a long, juicy feature of what the cast had worked on all movie. I love when a film lets us be a part of the dream fulfillment that the characters have been working towards. I could go on! Can't say enough great things about this movie

You know what's hilarious? Yes Sing 2 is not great, but I somehow enjoyed this movie way more than Hotel Transylvania 4, this Illumination sequel movie somehow tackled mature themes better and is straight up more mature and better than Hotel Transylvania 4, which sounds weird because the Hotel Transylvania franchise is pretty well regarded meanwhile Illumination movies are a laughing stock, I cannot believe it but I far prefer this movie, it somehow is not as childish and stupid and you can really tell they put way more effort this time around, like I really had a good time with this, yes the story is basically the same, the runtime is too short, preventing the characters to have time to be more fleshed out, there are alot of unfunny/corny/cliche scenes here and there, etc... But you can really tell they tried with this one

    My problems with Sing 2:
    • A lot of the scenes are predictable.
    • The opening sequence was basically a ripoff of the one on Zootopia/ Zootropolis.
    • The characters are either uninteresting, unlikable, or both.
    • There is a lack of character development.
    • One of the new characters is a stereotypical daddy’s girl of someone who has power.
    • The villain defeat was mediocre at best.
    • The subplots were forced in.
    • There is little to no quiet moments.
    • There’s a song number like every two minutes.
    • The scene were the lizard lost her eye made me cringe.
    Positives:
    • Some of the scenes were funny and/or enjoyable.
    • At least the porcupine and lion had character development.
    • The cover of “Girl is on Fire” was good.

    • @ohnahtayyy_
