They gave the fox Pixar mom hips, there's no way they didn't know what they were doing. On a more serious note, I really like that they made her be a fun character on her own instead of just being a love interest for Mr. Wolf.
@@cintronproductions9430 Yeah that is one overlooked great aspect of the film in terms of character dialogue. Wolf and Fox are constantly flirting in a rather organic way. It really feels like two people flirting, where they have chemistry, but also like f#%ing with each other. But, as you said, that's not her whole character. She rather developed having essentially been the Bad Guys, but having already gone through her maturing moment a few years before.
i dont wanna sound like "that guy" but the reason she's a ninja is because in the books when her character was introduced, she was wearing ninja garb, dreamworks did their homework on the books when it came to this movie.
@BlancBaily The movie is like soft reboot levels of accurate, in this day and age of most animated movies being garbage, its nice to see one that does a lot of things right
@@McYum. {SPOILERS} to be fair, in the second season if the books turns out she's "the one", and has superpowers so generic that they're only specified purpose is to help the plot move along.
I think it's kinda been going on since spider verse back in 2018, but it's definitely really starting to kick off now. This movie's definitely the best animation I've seen since then.
@@scoutman66 No they haven't I mean they characters were still meant to be somewhat toony but Monsters Inc, Shrek, Finding Nemo, WALL-E, Up, even Over the Hedge, they all looked a bit more realsitic than what this is going for.
I think what makes Diane such a great character is that even though she's clearly the love interest, they didn't tear away from the plot to cram it in. It's just, natural. She comes off as a genuine being who wants to see wolf succeed because *spoilers* she already has. She also is super dynamic in her role as mastermind turned governor and her skills showing off both actually strengthen the main plot instead of distracting from it. On top of that her character (and spider) are just top notch aesthetics that, even if you deny yourself turning a furry, she definitely will have brought some to the fluffy side... she can dance AND fight like... what else could she be?
Diane is a great character, and she would be even without the exagerated ninja skills. She's smart, she's in a position of power thanks to her own skill, she's in control, she doesn't need the bad guys, and she doesn't need to help them, but she does, and she pulls all the right strings. She's supportive, and defiant when she has to be. All of that while being clearly interested in Mr. Wolf, and without sense of superiority. Without the "smug" that ruins so many female characters. Sincerely having fun.
@@neutronalchemist3241 I actually thought her "ninja skills" made sense since she's a fox, y'know, she can move and attack quickly like one? Idk I thought it kinda fits. I didn't knew everyone hated it. 🗿
i only didn’t like her for a split second because i was always like “you’re the governor why are you flirting with bad guy ??” and then it made sense because she’s also a bad guy,, she slays
I think at 7:16 Saberspark said a very important and underappreciated lesson: "Predictable plots can be good as long as they're well executed with fun characters."
Nothing is original anyway. I mean, this movie don't need to be "GOD FUCKIN DAMMIT I NEVER SAW IT COMIN'!" type of movie. It already good as the way it is.
Look look look, this is for kids right? This could be some kids first movie at least let children establish the conventional plot patterns in normal movies because then the status quo will change making it harder for what is an expected outcome in reality versus fiction which adds a whole new difficulty layer. What is the plot twist if the plot twist was expected because everyone's doing the same thing or crazy thing then what plot twist would you add to that twist to make it unique for adult films? The problem is met at ahead when executives( who ultimately Greenlight these film projects) who have to (I assume) look at conventional plot patterns, the status quo, what is interesting, and what do kids deserve to build a foundation of a plotline that is easy to follow and not trying to be so unpredictable or crazy that it doesn't make sense. I'm not sure if I got my point across.
TL;DR: If kids can't understand it what's the point of a movie for kids if there is a hidden motivation to also appeal to adults who already expect certain plotlines to happen?
I wish ALL 3d animated films cell shaded like this, it's like a great blend between 2d and 3d that adds colors that pop with smooth slick movement that cgi offers, PLEASE more of this and better for good or great cell shading in 3d, THIS is the way of the future!!!
I really like the style although I really like when there's a balance of this 2D textured 3D style films and the more realisitic styles. I really hope DreamWorks will bring back the latter for a future project (maybe Shrek 5?), although for now they should have their fun with experimenting and doing new things
When I was in creative writing class, my prof mentioned that the readers being able to predict a story isn't bad. It's a mark of good writing. You're planting the seeds and, hopefully, will get a good payoff. I dislike when people trash a movie because they guessed what happened. Hell, there's a TH-camr I watch that is in the middle of a series. And for years he's seen us guess what this character's backstory was. He was so excited when it was revealed because he knew so many of us had guessed correctly and wanted to see our reactions. Predictability isn't bad for a story.
Depends on the story really, what is trying to be conveyed. But I do think it can be boring if you can predict too much of the story. Then it becomes like, why bother going through it if you already know all the significant story beats, you won't be getting anything new from it. Like example, when you watch something and know the hero will make it through and stop the bad guy, that's ok. It's fun to find out HOW they will do it, who they will meet, and how the character will change through the story. But if all of those are known too, and nothing changes, then you start to question the point of going through with it.
@@kamikeserpentail3778 Yeah it also does depend on the story. I have read such stories that do fall into that story type. But it does depend. But I think a lot of people have fallen into the idea that predictability = a poorly written story. Which isn't necessarily the case. It's something that heavily depends on the individual story.
A good detective/mystery story will plant clues that allow an attentive audience to find the solution (either in whole or significant part(s)) before or at the same time as the characters. And less attentive audiences should be able to realize what the clues were either in hindsight or on a second viewing. Iirc Hbomberguy talks about this in his Sherlock video. An example from Murdoch Mysteries (spoilers) There's a father and twin sons with heterochromia. One of the sons was given away as a child bc they were poor. If you paid attention to the old family photo with the kid they kept, the eye colours are flipped from the guy claiming to be that kid. So at some point after that photo was taken, the kids switched places and the question of "where is the kid that was given away?" becomes "what happened to the kid that was kept?" (Which has another, harder to figure out, clue to it)
being predictable and being badly written to a trope are two different things. Like, let's take her being a master thief. That was predictable. However, it had a good payout for showing to the story about someone defying their 'nature' to do better which made it necessary for the story. Had she just came in and done some weird ninjutsu shit and then said "My daddy made me train, but hey, I believe you can be a better person" that wasn't predictable, but it isn't helping the story.
"Diana is also, *bae* " Furry community: "We did it everyone. We got him." Seriously though, you could hear the flustered emotions in the Diana rant that followed. 🤣
I know it's a running gag, and he doesn't take it very seriously, but as I understand it, no-one is a furry until they wish to describe themselves as such. You can't force someone to join a community. Most people, I think, understand this. But there's always those nitwitted few who feel the need to put others into definable categories heedless of the wishes of the persons in question.
@@AnomalyINC That is a very good summary of my feelings on it. Just because you like anthro art doesn't make you a furry. It's identifying yourself with the community. Same with the Brony community. I consider myself like Saber actually. I love the creativity of anthro art and the furry community, but I don't identify with the community like I did/do with the brony community. That said, Saber very clearly has a character crush on Diana. Like i noted you clearly can hear the genuine emotion in his voice😆 That doesn't make him a furry, just he is very drawn to her character in an infatuation like way. This isn't really uncommon. It's why we have the terms waifu and husbando, lol. Anyone who enjoys fiction will have a few characters like that. I'm no exception. His denial over this though, is funny.
I'm liking the new animation styles coming out lately. The use of textures rather than just squishy 3d or hyper realism. With Arcane looking like videogame concept art and Spider verse looking like a comic book. The bad guys looking a little like the storybook, I'm liking how they are incorporating the genre into the actual textures and animation
I mean hypothetically you could be. In its simplest terms it means someone who enjoys anthropomorphic animals. So while it is entirely a self-assigned label, who knows. Its a welcoming community thats for damn sure.
@@nickrogers3624 This is a fantastic comment. Also, I think another thing that’s worth mentioning, is that, the only person who can decide if they’re a furry, is the person themselves. I see a lot of folks, especially younger viewers who become fans of anthro animal characters but then, legitimately feel afraid of being called a furry, not wanting to be called something they’re scared of being called, or because of the bullying that could lead to, and while I do think it’s possible to identify with a community while still being afraid to publicly be a “part” of it, and that experience is of course valid, I think that in situations like this it’s just also important to note, that really is up to the person themselves to chose if they want to be a part of the community and no one deserves to feel afraid of being labeled it. Because it’s up to them to chose if they want to.
@@auralunaprettycure That is precisely what I meant by “self-assigned label.” Its a label someone chooses for themselves. Now personally I do wish we weren’t as thoroughly hated especially throughout middle and high school but its hard to change peoples minds.
@@nickrogers3624 I wish that too, I wish that too. Growing up as a kid in the 2000s, I remember actually being pretty lucky: I was able to be a little *too* obsessed with Lucario, Renamon, and The Dark Team in SA2, for too long of junior high without anyone making any jokes about it, But I do remember during my late years of high school (late 2010s) it was a bit harder to be into those things without the mocks and jabs. And I hear for young folks nowadays it’s even worse. They have my support cause that has gotta be rough
I'm so glad to hear they made the fox girl an actual fun character, and not the cliched, boring love-interest type. Also, the animation has to be some of the best I've seen since Mitchells vs The Machines.
@@preciadoalex123 My point is that she says all her lines in a flirty way so it's clear that she had some kind of direction to do that. Or, she just saw the image of her character gazing seductively at the wolf and got inspired
The thing about DreamWorks, speaking as someone who used to work there, is that the company absolutely thrives best when it functions as a counter-culture voice to the status quo currently in place for Kids & Family animation. It's the whole reason the studio came to be: To counter the animated storytelling approaches established by Disney. So we got things like Antz (not great, but it was a direct fuck you to A Bugs Life), Road to El Dorado, Prince of Egypt, and of course, Shrek. Their worst work is when they try to fall in line with the status quo or cave into increasing pressures from S&P (standards and practices) and consumer trend decision-making (AKA, "this thing is currently popular, so we should do this thing"). A lot of the recent bad stuff can be attributed to the NBC/Universal merge who have a tighter grip on the type of content produced. That said, Steven Spielberg once visited the campus and said it would behoove the company to consider making adult-themed projects, and while I have no idea if that's going to happen, the general consensus among employees was that, yes, that would probably be a fantastic next step. But they're beholden to their NBC Universal Studios overlords, so, it's up in the air. Point is, when DreamWorks just does its own thing and chooses to be the "bad boys/girls/folks" of the industry - not even in genre, but by just pushing the types of bold narratives studios like Disney aren't brave enough to do in fear of losing their bottom line $$$ - we see among their best work. The Bad Guys is a direct and clear cut example of this both in packaging and messaging. I hope this is a lesson for DW to stick to this approach, because it's what put them on the map to begin with, and it's what makes them shine brightest.
Man. An adult DreamWorks movie, or even a Pg-13 one... would probably hit hard! As long as they KEEP the animation and artistry. Please, please don't make another live-action adult movie.
What sold me was the found family, Im always a sucker for a group of people who arent biologically related, be a family. And the relationship between Wolf and Snake had a lot more chemistry than Wolf and Diane, dont @ me. But I do love how Diane isnt just a generic love interest, she has her own motives, her own wants and personality. Also Wolf wasnt becoming a good guy to get in her favor, he did it because he wants a better life for his crew. I always hated the trope where impressing a hot person who the main character only knows for a few days is their primary motivation for getting better. This movie is stellar.
I love how _Into the Spiderverse_ kinda created this whole new playground for 3D animation to take inspiration on traditional 2D animation and _The Bad Guys_ is packed with. I loved how expressive the characters are and how well animated the action scenes are; the characters stretch in such a fluid manner that is mesmerizing to watch. The voice acting is also top notch. The plot is not groundbreaking or anything, and I feel they could've explored the heist themes better to really nail that "Ocean's Eleven" energy, but overall I had fun. My only question is that: why isn't _everyone_ in the film anthro animals? It is a bit weird to have a handful of characters being animals and the rest being humans, and it's not even explained why is that. It doesn't bother me per se since the human characters are pretty well designed. But would make more sense if every character was an animal, imho. I also agree that there was a lacking character development on Piranha, Shark and Spider. They really feel like wasted characters as the focal point is on Wolf and Snake. But who knows, if Dreamworks sees this as opportunity to capitalize and we get a sequel, maybe they could explore those characters better. Their dynamic is good enough and I wouldn't mind seeing more of Diane (not a furry I swear).
I thought it was hilarious that the main characters were the only ones who were anthros. similarly, how all the characters are named Shark, Tarantula, etc. and then there's Diane Foxington 😂for a movie like this, the setting doesn't need to make sense logically, it only needs to support the feeling of the story.
The fact that only a few characters are anthro animals actually reminds me of old cartoons, like Looney Tunes x'D Or shows like the Muppets ^^ It's just a thing and in the world of the movie no one questions it x'D
You know I was thinking the same thing, and then I realized that maybe the creators kept it that way to represent that anthro characters where just reflections of the nature of certain people irl..? the typical charming sweet ML with the personality of a wolf, the goody goody guinea pig (idk why he reminded me of James Cordon), and the typical sexy FL with the personality of a vixen. Their characters had personalities that's why they were kept that way. If you saw the movie you would have noticed that some of the animals are just normal even in the same species.
Well the point is that the anthro animals are considered "monsters" or bad guys. Even the other animals, the fox and the guinea pig become more relevant in the plot.
I won't lie: my local stations aggressively advertised this prior to release, and I thought the ads made it look incredibly obnoxious. As much as I loved the animation style, I thought the plot looked god-awful and was ready to dismiss it as another Dreamworks flop. I'm surprised and delighted to hear that people love it so much, so I'm ready to acknowledge that my judgment based on the commercials was a bit hasty and give this movie a try! :)
Yeah i also felt the same way tbh, i rrally thought it was going to be bad;;;; but maybe i should check it out! But, man that advertisement did it dirty;;;
I hear you, those commercials made it look like a cringey, dumbed-down version of the fox from Zootopia. I was ready to accept it was marketed to 7-year-olds and never think about it again, but if it's better than that then great! I might actually give it a watch now.
Tbf, the plot is God-awful. But the movie knows that and leans ALL the way into it and embraces the insanity instead of trying to be Zootopia. It's self aware in a mostly good way, and it helps the movie focus on what it does best, it's crazy style and fast paces action.
Anyway, I'm friggin' happy that animation is finally getting out of honestly stagnated waters and not just try to make the same textures look more realistic.
The animation for _The Bad Guys_ is impressive and vastly different than the CG animation seen in the previous DreamWorks animated films (e.g. Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Megamind, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar) considering that the titular characters, the supporting cast including the humans gives off a Hand Drawn Cel-Shaded look similar to the animation seen in Disney's _Paperman_ and _Feast_ and especially Sony Pictures Animation's _Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse._ I also am getting a lot of _Lupin the 3rd_ and _Dragon Ball_ vibes for the character designs. Even the same can be said for the upcoming _Puss in Boots: The Last Wish_ as the visual style is giving off a 2D/3D visual style so I'm excited on the direction DreamWorks Animation is heading.
I'm sure Spider-Verse is to thank (weird that Disney aren't the ones setting a trend for animation here, nor are they _following_ it yet, which is off-brand for Hollywood). Which means this is going to wind up getting real old, real fast.
Don't worry Saber we won't judge you because this movie was PHENOMENAL! I got the chance to see it already a pretty long time ago because in Europe it came out earlier in theaters than in America (how strange) and holy moly the first 10 minutes of the movie with the car chase scene were BREATHTAKING! I was LITERALLY on the verge of tears because as an artist I was so impressed by how much aesthetically pleasing and good looking the visuals and the artstyle were!!! I literally begged eveyone I know to go watch it as well mainly because of how insanely well-animated it was, yeah Mr Wolf is objectively hot but damn the thing that really sells this film is surely the stylistic choice they made with the graphic and everything in general!!!
@@spaghetti5914 oh trust me, it was epic. All the action scenes in general were awesome as well because the stylization of the already cartoonish artstyle reached astonishing levels with the animation, which costantly remained smooth as heck. Truly amazing.
@@spaghetti5914 the car chase scenes were pretty good! My husband in his 30s liked the movie and (his) my 12 year old step son loved it! I would say it’s a pretty good PG movie!
To be fair, I’m pretty sure it’s a little better when if you look at her more like a centaur but with a spider body rather than a horse body. It’d probably be very difficult to pull off her look and visual appeal if she didn’t have that upper half, plus, more freedom for her animation.
If things try too hard to be too realistic all the time, they all just blend together a bit, in my opinion. Style should match, or contrast, the tone of the story. But I"m someone who loved Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker's style from the start.
for 2 decades, we've seen animated movies try to look better than the first Shrek but never pull it off. Its about time they made styles look more memorable and stand out for once in a while
Coming from someone who used to read The Bad Guys books when I was a kid really brought back that childlike excitement seeing the movie bring the characters to life, really hits the heart and nonetheless is a wonderful movie that had me on the edge of my seat while watching.
I am yet to see the movie and have read the books and I feel like Legs gender change was unnecessary but it doesn't make the movie unwatchable, I just don't think it was needed. I can also see the reason for giving Pirahna a useful body. Really I was jarred by the difference between Mr. Wolf in the books and in the movie, they just feel worlds apart as Wolf was outgoing and hyperfixated on getting the gang to go good in the books, don't get me wrong the movie adaptation is great, its just how I feel about the character change.
Spoiler! ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ Spoiler bellow! I'm really glad marmalade twist in the book didn't happen. I feel like they referenced it by saying the meatieorite looked like a butt I also loved the movie and books!
Wolf and Snake's relationship and struggles throughout the movie was definitely the highlight of the story for me. I like the other characters a lot, they each have their own charm and role to play in the various scenarios of the film, but with the exception of Diane who is a great foil for Wolf, they mostly feel simplistic or just not that important to the story. however I don't think that's a bad thing! ensemble casts can really bog down the pace of a story if not handled really well and I think the more streamlined approach taken here is to the film's benefit. the animation is probably the biggest strength of the movie overall. I love the emphasis on key frames which give the action a comic book-like feel. finally I would say the mashup of a gritty and glitzy setting with cutesy, cartoony characters just works so well. it definitely reminded me of Zootopia, but throwing all the debatable thematic content of that film out the window in favor of maximizing style. The Bad Guys isn't deep or challenging, it's just a well-executed, thrilling ride.
Yeah how about you shut up with that bullshit of "denial", liking anthro animals does not means that you are a furry, if you are a furry you just have to identify as one or by joining the furry fandom
dun fact the last episode of part 2 and wings of death got a dub called "tales of the wolf" where they just straight up call lupin wolf (like that one cagliostro dub)
I really like the movie for it's character chemistry. Like you can tell it's not a forced conversation between the actors, instead naturally coming from each other like they're friends outside of the studio. *I need to also add that the animation quality made me love it even more with its fun and well storyboarded action scenes.*
From the first trailer I saw of this movie I was like “holy cow, I need to see it” and I am glad to say it really met my expectations, the plot was simple and felt very well paced, the voices were great, the characters interactions were wonderful and there were some really good moments and the animation. The quality of the animation was STUNNING, I loved all the emotion packed in the characters expressions, the world and the car scenes. This was a wonderful movie and the studio did an amazing job.
I was honestly getting really sad that all these studios were relying too heavily on 3D animation since I've always been in love with 2D. It's been really refreshing seeing all these projects mixing 2D and 3D in order to get a unique art direction and animation style
I like how this film played with the concepts of heroism and villainy - how most characters go back and forth between the roles while public perception of them also shifts: sometimes the shifts parallel each other while other times they conflict because no one has perfect information! I would say more, but that would get into spoiler territory…
So the criticism of the "Character development" is that the Grand-Larcenist became a successful Politician too Abruptly?? In what world is that not the most believable thing currently?
What i think is weird is that they believe she became a politican too abruptly but we have NO idea how much time passed betweem her stealing the dolphin and her becoming governor. Like we literally do not know so i think its weird for folks to say its abrupt.
I saw commercials for this movie and thought it was going to be good! Loved what I saw with the visuals and the jokes! Usually by the commercial I can tell if it's going to be a flop or not and it really comes in handy when I want to watch a good movie, or a movie so bad that it's funny! And it's really cool to see other content creators, especially ones that I watch, supporting and sponsoring other creators!
I didn’t even notice the twists, somehow. The chase scene at the charity party made me realize that the thief aesthetic is actually pretty cool! It also makes me wish that Persona 5 had more action cutscenes with the Phantom Thieves

honestly so many different things from games to movies to books need to keep the idea " it can be predictable as long as the character are fun and well executed" so many different things try to subvert expectations or live up to expectations to a T that you end up with unfunny moments and characters who act completely different from normal
I just adore this "new age" of stylizing animation, first with spiderverse then with Arcane and Mithcels and now this. Can't wait to see where this goes.
That movie “Paws of Fury” looks like it has a similar style but from the trailer and all the childish slapstick humor, it looks like the studio still thinks they don’t have to put in any effort into a good plot or engaging characters. Just a cash grab

It was so fun, the outside of the obvious Lupin influence, the experience was really similair (to the lighter entries at least). Just the joy of washing fun personalities with good chemistry bumping off and pulling off flashy heist and action scenes. Sometimes style IS substance.
Case in, The First pictured. simple characters, who are by the way similarly all established with an excellent heist and chase scene at the start. Villains? one has depth but they are just nazis. Why would you need anything more? You can get on with the rest of the impressive scenes and jokes when you do not have to elaborate on why your antagonist is bad. If you are writing a philosophical Star Trek episode that may be warranted, but elaborate villains when their function is to be bad people the protagonists clearly must stop is just indulgence, and a waste in the limited time of any movie.
This was a solid, fun film, and certainly a step in the right direction for Dreamworks. I really liked the fast-paced animation and the dynamic between the characters, especially between Snake and Wolf, and the latter with Fox.
SPOILERS The part where Mr. Wolf screamed at the villian, instead of just staring in disbelief or just raising his voice slightly, he actually took action. HE. ACTUALLY. TOOK. ACTION. Every single other animated movie I've watched has NEVER. NEVER! done anything like this. This sent shivers down my spine, that part is what I want to happen in MY stories, in MY animatics, animations, THAT. Is what I want. This movie captured that PERFECTLY! I was actually screaming my head out by how he did it. I loved it so much! Another part is the conversations, mainly between Mr. Snake and Mr. Wolf. They actually talk like adults, they're actually smooth, it's actually so awesome to watch. But I only LOVE this movie because doug judy plays the shark
You know you could just say that you liked it and never bring *that* stuff up. Its almost as if your true passion is constantly teasing anout it, but then gleefully running away before you are called out. Its admirable.
Honestly, while I've always kind of liked Dreamworks films, this is the first one I can say for sure that I love. I'm really hoping for a sequel, I'd love to see what more they can do with these wonderful characters.
I literally just came out of the theatre from watching it. I loved the movie. The story was great. And I cant express- especially as someone who loves drawing- how much I loved the art style. It was so amazing.
My child has been reading and collecting this series since it came out, and was really hesisitant when they saw that it was now a movie. I'm glad to hear that a lot of people enjoyed it!
I keep saying that the predictability is a strength to this film instead of a weakness Because they let the actors and animators just shine and do what they want. No attempt to feign complexity, but hey that's fine. And personally one or two twists got me really well because of how they were done not what they were.
The animation reminded me of the cartoons I grew up with. Like Tom & Jerry and The Road Runner. Where it's got that zaney cartoon antics unlike most animations nowadays that feel stiff and try to be more "realistic". Also the fox lady surprised me. I didn't think I'd like her as much as I did, but I absolutely love her character.
My first experience with this movie was when I was walking past an advertisement for it. The female fox character wasn't even on the poster but I took one look at this and the designs and thought to myself "I'd bet literally everything that furries worked on this". Glad to see I wasn't wrong lmao
2:34 Sometimes that simply happens: Another good example is the Manga Adaptation of "So I am a Spider, so what?" which I actually prefer to the illustrations in the Light Novel because Asahiro Kakashi makes better use of the visual concept of having a spider with facial expressions and human mannerisms than Tsukasa Kiryu does with his helpless "human face plastered onto a spider monster". Especially with actually recognizing that (most) spiders have eight eyes.
If the Tarantula had eight eyes that would kind of be more accurate to spiders In Real Life, but since the character has 8 minus 6 eyes to begin with, they used the book design to be more accurate! (So it’s basically self-explanatory)
I liked it, a lot. However the moment I saw that fox lady and heard her talk, my first thought was "The internet is going to eat you alive" Just forgot to mention this, but the two "good" animals have names, but the "bad" animals are called by their species name.
The Bad Guys was an amazing movie! I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed Captain Underpants! In fact, this movie feels like the successor to MegaMind! I for one also loved Diane Foxington, not for furry reasons, but because Zazie Beetz plays her, and I am in love with that actress ever since her role as Domino from Deadpool 2!
I’m hoping they’ll make a sequel because I really loved this one. The artwork was top notch especially how Mr Wolf’s fur moves in the wind. I also liked the car chases too. I have a hunch that Mr Wolf is a bit of a gear head too. He loves his car but in the end he loves his friends more.
I just LOVED this movie. Yeah I saw the twists and they were obvious but that didnt take away from the ride at all. I also like that Diane and Wolf had flirting/chemistry but they didn't turn it into cliche sudden 'true love' romance at the end.
Thank you for bringing more attention to this gem that has mostly gone under the radar so far! I really loved it, The animation during the action scenes was phenomenal, and I especially liked how they did smoke. Humor was also Seinfeldian more often than low brow potty humor, which was a pleasant surprise. Character writing was also great and gave most characters their own unique charm, as you said. All the characters are unique and enjoyable, so I'd have liked a small peek into all of their backstories and how they came together. I think that could have been a nice place to plant seeds for their eventual redemption, like young Nick Wilde wanting to join the scouts and having that viciously thrown back in his face causing him to enter a spiral of bitterness into adulthood, until that was finally broken by someone dedicated to fighting societal norms. But that's a very minor complaint compared to everything this movie brings to the table. I hope more people give it a chance now!
honestly, i LOVE the "flat but round" kind of style all the movies has. Beastars is also really good with that. it makes it look like the characters are comics, actually moving around[into the spiderverse has that vibe the most, which,, makes sense,,, because well,,,, yeah] and its just a nice style! i love the way it looks! i didn't particularly care for it at first, but I've started to really like it! I'm glad studios are taking a more stylized approach to their movies now!

the art style really is amazing, i love how it looks 2D and 3D at the same time kinda. yes, the story is pretty simple, but its a kids movie based off of a kids book so what can you expect? it was enjoyable nonetheless. and the action scenes were really cool as well
This movie's so good! Not only is it about prejudice, but a meta jab at how we keep typecasting the same animals into the same roles in fiction. Mr. Wolf and gang are only 'bad' because that's how society sees them. Mr. Wolf's journey and desire to be accepted, only to accept that it will never happen until he takes responsibility for his past actions, is beautiful. As someone who wants more diverse roles for wolves than just 'bad guy', I loved it. Plus the art style is gorgeous!
If anyone grumbles about you having a taste for furry stuff, ignore them. I've been a furry since the 80's and I've never regretted it. My local theatre is garbage, but I will get the blu-ray of this movie.

I can already picture the sequel where now that the bad guys are serving their sentence, a group of WORSE guys emerge and like in White Collar the bad guys will be needed to help catch the worse guys. Possible Worse guys lineup Ms. Scorpion Mr. Angler Ms. Gator Mr. Bear Ms. Tiger Also: Mr/Ms. Wasp, Rat, Vulture, Croc, & Jellyfish

They gave the fox Pixar mom hips, there's no way they didn't know what they were doing. On a more serious note, I really like that they made her be a fun character on her own instead of just being a love interest for Mr. Wolf.
I agree, I enjoyed her as a character, there was quite a lot of flirting between her and Wolf but that wasn't the entirety of her character.
@@cintronproductions9430
Yeah that is one overlooked great aspect of the film in terms of character dialogue.
And she is the one bad guy people never talked about lately!
I appreciate the design tbh.
She's got the body, the face AND she's a really good character?! COME ON, there's no way they didn't make her like this intentionally
I love how the writers went like "Yeah that fox is attractive but WHAT IF SHE WAS A NINJA"
Then they use the freaking flute for the fight scenes to hammer it in.
i dont wanna sound like "that guy" but the reason she's a ninja is because in the books when her character was introduced, she was wearing ninja garb, dreamworks did their homework on the books when it came to this movie.

I think it's kinda been going on since spider verse back in 2018, but it's definitely really starting to kick off now. This movie's definitely the best animation I've seen since then.
They've been doing that since the early 2000's.

Look look look, this is for kids right? This could be some kids first movie at least let children establish the conventional plot patterns in normal movies because then the status quo will change making it harder for what is an expected outcome in reality versus fiction which adds a whole new difficulty layer.
What is the plot twist if the plot twist was expected because everyone's doing the same thing or crazy thing
then what plot twist would you add to that twist to make it unique for adult films?
The problem is met at ahead when executives( who ultimately Greenlight these film projects) who have to (I assume) look at conventional plot patterns, the status quo, what is interesting, and what do kids deserve to build a foundation of a plotline that is easy to follow and not trying to be so unpredictable or crazy that it doesn't make sense.
I'm not sure if I got my point across.
TL;DR:
If kids can't understand it what's the point of a movie for kids if there is a hidden motivation to also appeal to adults who already expect certain plotlines to happen?
I wish ALL 3d animated films cell shaded like this, it's like a great blend between 2d and 3d that adds colors that pop with smooth slick movement that cgi offers, PLEASE more of this and better for good or great cell shading in 3d, THIS is the way of the future!!!

An example from Murdoch Mysteries (spoilers)
There's a father and twin sons with heterochromia.
As an aspiring writer, thanks for the advice I needed this :))

@@nickrogers3624 This is a fantastic comment.
Also, I think another thing that’s worth mentioning, is that, the only person who can decide if they’re a furry, is the person themselves.
I see a lot of folks, especially younger viewers who become fans of anthro animal characters but then, legitimately feel afraid of being called a furry, not wanting to be called something they’re scared of being called, or because of the bullying that could lead to, and while I do think it’s possible to identify with a community while still being afraid to publicly be a “part” of it, and that experience is of course valid,
I think that in situations like this it’s just also important to note, that really is up to the person themselves to chose if they want to be a part of the community and no one deserves to feel afraid of being labeled it. Because it’s up to them to chose if they want to.

Ur literally a raccoon.
Yeah i also felt the same way tbh, i rrally thought it was going to be bad;;;; but maybe i should check it out! But, man that advertisement did it dirty;;;
Yeah, the trailers were so annoying. I am glad to hear that it is actually a good film.
I didn't care for the movie trailer either yet haven't watched for myself. Am curious what you think after watching though.

What? They literally just took a spider and gave it a face.
To be fair, I’m pretty sure it’s a little better when if you look at her more like a centaur but with a spider body rather than a horse body. It’d probably be very difficult to pull off her look and visual appeal if she didn’t have that upper half, plus, more freedom for her animation.
I like how CGI is moving to be more experimental in the style and art.
Its about time they made styles look more memorable and stand out for once in a while
Hello there you legend with a Derpy Hooves pfp

I also loved the movie and books!

Yes. Yes we are.
I agree, I hope they go in this direction from here.

The part where Mr. Wolf screamed at the villian, instead of just staring in disbelief or just raising his voice slightly, he actually took action. HE. ACTUALLY. TOOK. ACTION. Every single other animated movie I've watched has NEVER. NEVER! done anything like this. I was actually screaming my head out by how he did it. I loved it so much! Another part is the conversations, mainly between Mr. Snake and Mr. Wolf. My child has been reading and collecting this series since it came out, and was really hesisitant when they saw that it was now a movie. I'm glad to hear that a lot of people enjoyed it!
I keep saying that the predictability is a strength to this film instead of a weakness
Because they let the actors and animators just shine and do what they want.
DreamWorks is the epitome of "you miss all the shots you don't take."
"...so take every shot and stop trying to aim."
"Try again, Bragg."
My first experience with this movie was when I was walking past an advertisement for it. The female fox character wasn't even on the poster but I took one look at this and the designs and thought to myself "I'd bet literally everything that furries worked on this". Glad to see I wasn't wrong lmao

The story follows a very simple structure but executes it very nicely. It doesn't take itself too seriously and the characters have a lot of heart.
2:34 Sometimes that simply happens:
Another good example is the Manga Adaptation of "So I am a Spider, so what?" which I actually prefer to the illustrations in the Light Novel because Asahiro Kakashi makes better use of the visual concept of having a spider with facial expressions and human mannerisms than Tsukasa Kiryu does with his helpless "human face plastered onto a spider monster". Especially with actually recognizing that (most) spiders have eight eyes.
Agreed, good example
If the Tarantula had eight eyes that would kind of be more accurate to spiders In Real Life, but since the character has 8 minus 6 eyes to begin with, they used the book design to be more accurate!
(So it’s basically self-explanatory)

All the characters are unique and enjoyable, so I'd have liked a small peek into all of their backstories and how they came together. I think that could have been a nice place to plant seeds for their eventual redemption, like young Nick Wilde wanting to join the scouts and having that viciously thrown back in his face causing him to enter a spiral of bitterness into adulthood, until that was finally broken by someone dedicated to fighting societal norms. But that's a very minor complaint compared to everything this movie brings to the table. I hope more people give it a chance now!

Dam, the flashbacks….
Ok but...with only the few seconds we've seen of Ms. Tarantula in the trailers, and I immediately love the character.... I guess my arachnophobia doesn't get triggered if it doesn't have more than two eyes...or the erratic movements of its eight legs...
My question is how they got her the tiny seat, tiny seatbelt, tiny computer (with tiny extensions for her extra legs) tiny hoodie, tiny inmate clothing, and other tiny shenanigans
@@synkt8759 The world has a lot of spiders, so naturally there'd be gear made specifically for them.
Fluff?Do you like spiders with fluff?Or is that a no no?
@@randomwolfygirl If they bite, then fuck it. If it has 8 eyes. Hell no if its massive. FUCKING HELL NO
It's amazing how they made a tarantula look cute(cute in the same way a cat or a dog can be cute, not the other kind)
11:51 wolf x rabbit cartoon is called “ну погоди!», «I’ll get you!». My childhood cartoon. I really love it.
