Thanks Mark! Fish straightened out the swivel, never seen that before, I hit free spool, terminal gear fouled in the net so fish drug net overboard and I still managed to pull it together and get him. Beats me! I actually love stuff like that...(grin)
Thanx Steve! Just as I was going to slip the net under the fish I hit the free spool with my thumb. I think the net fouled in the terminal gear and the salmon pulled it overboard. I've made sure that it floats. Still, it's surprising that I got it back and didn't at least lose the fish...

That was definitely less than artful... (grin) I accidently hit the eccentric lever and sent the reel into free spool, that's what got me into trouble...
Nice chunky coho and rockfish! We got 2 on the Columbia in Portland on August 26. 3 more trips after that we were blanked. We will try again! My boat is too small for the ocean. Seems like a good non-selective coho bite, friends are getting them.
Thanks! It's a good bite and easy to get to. I was only in 160 feet of water, that's about 3 miles offshore... I don't believe in boats too small for the ocean. It just depends on the day, the design, the skipper and the conditions...
Praying for the health issue to be resolved quickly! It wore me out watching you fight the salmon. I guess here in Oklahoma, the only thing that we would have comparable would be a big catfish or striper but I pretty much stick to crappie now. A 2 or 3 pound crappie is a big one here. Thanks for showing us your adventures on the ocean.
Amazing how hard Coho are on tackle. I've seen them snap HEAVY rods in the rod holder on the strike. And then they just go crazy from there. Someday I'd still like to get one on a fly rod just for shits and giggles. Would be fun with a salty fish!!
I very much like the contact I get with the 7' Shimano Trevala jigging rod. Those 9' buggy whips that people like are too noodley for my taste. I caught a 34" pig of a buck Coho day before yesterday that was a good tussle...
