    Wow that is a lot of good info packed into 10 minutes. Unlike so many videos that spend a lot of time stating the obvious, this is all info the whole time. Thanks

      Agreed! Quality Info - if i lived nearby your Fish Hatchery I’d be a customer… but I’m in North Mississippi and it’s hard to find pond stocking options conveniently here … unfortunately
      Enjoy all your vids Steve i have almost watched em all! 🤙🏽

    Just wanted to thank you again, Steve. We haven’t had to speak on the phone for maybe a couple years now. But I always appreciate you taking the time to talk to me directly. I’m going to need some pond conditioner. It looks like these very small green plants are starting to cover the surface of my now four year old pond. I bought your book and it looks like the duck weed. Sure enough. I was thinking of scooping it out with a fine mesh net because the pond is only 50 feet long by 30 feet wide and not too deep to walk in with my chest waders. But the formation of the weed tells me I’m having pond health issues whi you talk about here in this video. Thanks again. Jacob Accurso (Oregon coast hills)

    You didn’t talk about the most hated plant. The Water Lilly. Glyphosate won’t even kill it, much les a grass carp. What can I do to totally get rid of 30 acres of water Lilly’s? I’ve tried it all.

  • @stevefender9161
    @stevefender9161 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    yes you can have too many , we recommend 8-12 per surface acre . it will take till the third summer to see if you have enough . they need the first two to grow large enough to become effective . I have never heard of using ashes to help a pond with vegetation . the bacteria doesn't have to be applied heavy to work . it just wouldn't work as fast. I also recommend bottom aeration as a method for helping to control water conditions . I wouldn't recommend ducks for vegetation control .

    Wow just the type of solutions I was hoping for to rid our lakes of a variety of seaweed, algae blooms etc. I like be to swim and paddle board in lakes in the Midwest, but over the last few years the lakes have become dominated with a variety of algae. Currently the preferred solution is to use chemicals, which is not a long term solution. After our chemical applications the lake is covered with seaweed.

    Triploid carp are river fish. If a rain event has your pond topping the overflow the carp will sense it and bye bye.
    Contain them with mesh across the overflow.

    I really appreciate your videos. I feel like you cover everything, but in my search for a good way to take care of my algae problem I have come across a couple of other items that I'd like to ask about. We have a 2 acre spring fed pond. in the spring of 2016 we stocked it with a healthy mix of everything, and added some predator fish that same fall. We did add about 5-8 white amurs also. We may need more, jury is out. Is it possible to add too many?
    It will be quite expensive for us to treat the pond with the bacteria. I am curious if the use of ash from the burn pile will help at all (some have said it will). Also curious if adding a few ducks to the pond will have any positive effects at all with the overall control of the vegetation.

      Some ducks would be helpful for this if you got the right kind but keep in mind not all ducks eat weeds. That being said ducks do not eat a ton and so you may be better off getting grass carp.

      there are no native fish in ohio that eat vegetation only that is why the grass carp were legalized back in 1987.... they work

    How can I get ride of the turtles that come back every year.??

    • @fendersfishhatchery560
      @fendersfishhatchery560  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      depends on the type of turtle, the little painted ones really don't hurt anything and the big snapping turtles usually don't hang around that long . the snappers can be caught with hooks or turtle traps and are good to eat. check your local game laws before you take any

  • @isaiahredneck4659
    @isaiahredneck4659 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Will the Amir's eventually take over or they don't reproduce because I need vegetation control and I don't want to introduce a species of fish that is eventually going to take up space for my bass

    • @fendersfishhatchery560
      @fendersfishhatchery560  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      By federal law Amur cannot reproduce so all of our amurs are sterilized females that come from a farm in Arkansas where the federal government inspects every fish to ensure it isn't reproducible. You can rest assured no amur will reproduce or take over your pond.
