I think most people hearing this song have felt the same as you. I cried like a baby tbh.
I had two great grandfathers and a great uncle serve and die in the trenches of the western front between 1915-1918
One wrote home to my great gran about their Xmas of 1914.
He said it was surreal but heartwarming, many friendships were forged during these truces. They were all ordinary men, trying to survive during the most brutal war in history.
Many soldiers from both sides kept in touch with each other or their families after the war.
Death is the only victor in war 😢😢

Having watched the video--still love it. The thing I love most about this music video in particular is how it hits everything. It has a positive message but it doesn't shy away from the fact that the meat grinder is gonna go full steam the next day, just like how they show the bodies dead center of the video while the scene is at its peak. I was also pleased with your reaction when Hannes finally climbs up out of the trench for the first time--like, no, oh my God man don't do it, that's a death sentence, and the guy behind him is trying to call him back. Glad I'm not the only one who thought that. Also--take care of yourself. Sabaton goes for some really dark subjects. No need to burn yourself out just for the views or whatever. I love the videos but just make sure you don't do it in a way that actually messes you up.

  • @jmetallover
    @jmetallover 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Their messages are stories often of ordinary people who went through great events not of their own making and the emotions and experience they endured. They are the best teachers of history as opposed to some old dusty book, here you see the humanity at least for a little while, rise above the insanity. All these men had one thing in common, they all wanted to be home with family and friends to celebrate the Holidays, instead they were stuck in the frozen mud and cold trenches trying to find some meaning to the insanity around them. Sadly this never happened again as the generals made sure of that and the War went on for another 4 years at this pace, 18th century tactics against 20th century weapons, the slaughter was brutal but those that survived were often scarred for the rest of their lives. As a vet the lines we carry our nation on our shoulders and think of friends who never get to celebrate Christmas really hit home, I think of fallen buddies who hopefully are at peace and of those of us who get to celebrate the Holidays while carrying the insanity forward instead of our humanity. 11/11 Lest We Forget...sadly many have and never will remember, but thanks to Sabaton these people will be remembered.

Before, there was a faceless enemy, and that keeps you going.

I think it made the war that much harder.

@@jessicakoster2543 there's a reason that in every war, every military, has painted their enemies as not human. It's way easier to shoot at somebody when you don't think about the fact that they are in the same position as you. The 1914 Christmas Truce between British Soldiers and German Soldiers is absolutely true. In 1914 here in England in the County that I live in had there own Regiment called the Hertfordshire Regiment, and the 1st Battalion of the Hertfordshire Regiment was involved in the Christmas Truce in no man's land in 1914, the Football that was used in the Christmas Truce of 1914 came from a British Soldier from the London Irish Regiment which is still around today and the Regiment is still part of the British Army. The actual Football is in the London Irish Regiment Museum at there Barracks in London, the Football is one of the Regiment's most prized possessions. The Hertfordshire Regiment does not exist anymore and my local Regiment is the Royal Anglian Regiment. The Christmas Truce is one of the most incredible events in WW1 it is part of the UK and Germany's history that both countries share.💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿💙💛🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪

It's unthinkable the amount of rifles, machine guns and sniper rifles on that one person stepping out, and not one opened fire. Not one person in the opposing trench wanted to kill, nor in his own. Lions led by donkeys, and unfortunately it's the exact same to this day. It is a bittersweet grasp for Humanity like this Song, a painful Trauma like 'To Hell and Back' , it is self-sacrifice like in 'The last stand' or a suprising act of kindness from enemies like in 'No bullets fly'. It is al this and much much more, buried under Miles of Pain and Death.

1914...WW1 was waging and on a lone battle field at the eve of christmas...a single solider left his trench in a sign of peace and united the two factions for one single day
if that isn't a christmas miracle, I do not know what is
there is an actual cross marker at that battlefield that reads: 1914, christmas truce, 1999...85 years, lest we forget

The Final Solution is imo their absolute darkest song, and about the most evil and inhumane sequence through modern human history, the holocaust. But it's just as delicate and utter brilliance music craftmanship. I wont listen on it anytime soon since it affected me deeply, both lyricwise and the haunting melody, it just simply wouldn't leave my head. Typically everytime I showered, or several times a day.
There are people nowadays, generations that doesn't know about cruelty or have been raised without any threats or worries from war. Taking freedom and rights for granted. It's a horrible mistake for people and humanity to forget and not know our history.
Cause soon, it'll be trivialized, met with scepsism and denial. Which is becoming more and more common in several nation populations, spreading like a desease, the ignorance.
Tons of respect man to your reaction and thoughts about this video.
    And great upcoming christmas wishes.
