Construction work is such a dangerous job. Construction workers don’t get enough credit for what they do.
Amen to that!
On average construction workers are subjected to more job related deaths than police and fire men combined, by a factor of 20-40 on average! These are the workers that should be recognized in society. I am not taking anything away from first responders, just saying facts. God Bless them all!
You mean construction men.

MDTA took in $56 million in tolls from this bridge alone last year. Cheap bridge that was built 47 years ago, and it didn't even have shoulders for disabled vehicles. Where does that toll money go? Where was the pier protection?
It goes to pay the politicians and city/state/county leaders who have swollen paychecks. Also maybe .025% of it goes to filling those potholes that the people were filling while it collapsed.
An unfortunate truth is they probably weren’t even doing the highest quality pothole filling. Knowing America, they probably filled it with goop that looks like chocolate frosting, giving it an uneven result and an improper fix.
Good point, but this ship is 150,000+ Tons and 1000ft long. Something that size is going to take out almost anything. Tug boats watching the bridge could help.
Toll money goes back to the investors that buy bonds that build the bridges. Toll bridges are income producing so they can’t be built with tax payers money. They are built with money made from investment bonds. Like municipal bonds. And when the bond matures, the money has to be paid back to the investors. Any one can buy municipal bonds.

They opted out on the installation of pylon bumpers, due to cost. I don't think they saved much.
Hindsight...
Completely preventable, tugs should have been required to stay with ship and guide it till past this very important bridge. Two tugs guided it from loading dock to channel then left the ship on its own. This was a tragedy waiting to happen.
Trump could have prevented this from happening
@@noble6441 I don't think so but Biden will blame Trump for sure.

@@GertKlimanschewski I mean, going off of the internet, the average cargo ship is about 165,000 tons. Maybe the island and barriers would help against small to midsized boats but probably not against a huge cargo ship.

We need to re-invest in America.
We cannot let politicians continuously dismantle public projects with excuses about inflation or national debt, while they simultaneously enrich the most successful corporations in America with tax breaks, bailouts, subsidies, loans, grants, and other donor-friendly policies.

That’s how it works 🤷♂️
No worries… A toll booth fixes everything. BTW Fed made out like a bandit for quantitative easing and the pandemic.
The ship is owned by Maersk (Danish) and flies under a Singapore flag. Not sure Singapore the nation is on the hook, or if both are the maritime approvers in Singapore and Maersk are on the hook. Maritime/admiralty law seems to be a very complex law and it will take years to figure out if those two entities pay and how much. Plus, the wrongful death suits of the construction workers. I'm glad to have my tax money go to fix the problem now, although that will take years for a new bridge. Just unblocking the shipping channels will help all of us keep the cargo moving.
Live in Hampton Roads...shipping channel bridges are mostly bridge tunnels...tunnels are more expensive than bridges, but with the volume of traffic in Baltimore/Dundalk I wonder if a bridge/tunnel isn't a better idea.

I just hope they weren't too frightened to get checked out due to the atrocious health insurance policies that exist in this country...
I don't understand why most Americans are so dead set against having a health care plan that's like Canada's.
I'm a Canadian and I honestly don't mind paying a little extra taxes for health care. I see a doctor, get blood work done, I bet that would cost an arm and a leg if I had to do that in America, but here I'm covered. All I have to do is show my health care card. A couple years ago my dad died of leukemia. He fought it for 2 years, and if we were in America and had to deal with that, it would have bankrupted us, and he would have died anyway. I don't see what's so bad about paying into a system that saves people's lives.

In Canada things like cigarettes and alcohol come with a heavy tax because of how bad they are for your health. So when you need help from nearly drinking yourself to death, you’re covered, they’ll give you a new pair of kidneys.
In America, cigarettes and alcohol are so cheap that it’s probably real easy to ruin your life with them before you know it, and when that day comes, you’re pretty much owned by the bank, from not being able to afford the doctor bills.
@@FuckCensorship62 Have you ever watched the tobacco industry lobbyists in the 90s pleading to Congress that their products were safe for consumers?

Good point, cause as we all know, federal tax dollars are funded by a printing press.
I do agree with biden. The federal government should pay for a new bridge as that would be the fastest method possible to get that critical time saver for citizens of Baltimore. Going after the company responsible should happen, but it should happen after a new bridge is constructed. Regardless, I personally would rather have some of the best bridge architects in the country work on designing a new bridge immediately. But also make sure it is done with enough time to make it safe and well made to last for decades.
Of course Biden responded so-quickly Baltimore is a red hot lefty city.
Feds can assist in building then a toll system to pay money back over time. A lot of bridges and other transportation projects are funded that way
So you want the federal government to build a match stick bridge and send a few billion to Ukraine. Got it
The persons who produce eggs Biden would put in charge with the rebuild will fail, ON PURPOSE. We have a federal government that is purposefully failing. On the ashes they will build an America in the model of the CCP.
No worries, the toll company will recoup the cost for the Fed. The Fed made more $$$ during the pandemic and qualitative easing.
