@@sterlingrussell2485 Hamas isn’t a some highly structured group. It’s more of a loose collection of groups of radical extremists. Even if the head of Hamas agreed to a ceasefire, and releasing of the hostages, it’s highly likely that it would fail as not all factions within Hamas would respect it, causing a restart of hostilities. Ceasefire is arguably not currently possible, as Hamas would not respect it. Besides, Hamas’s own self-described mission statement is the destruction of Israel and eradication of Jews. While Israel is by no means even remotely innocent, the destruction of Muslims in Gaza is not a blatantly stated mission purpose. Not a lot of room for negiotian moving forward. Even if Israel gave up the West Bank, Palestine will never be free under Hamas rule. And yet, these students pretend that Israel is the sole problem. No, Israel is fighting a brutal urban campaign with a deeply entrenched enemy that uses civilians and civilian infrastructure as a human meat shield. While Israel has arguably failed to take necessary precautions to limit civilian casualties, Hamas will continue to do this, as it plays into the narrative that Israel is evil, and Hamas arguably cares less about Palestinian lives then even Israel. Hamas has routinely demonstrated that it is not willing to negotiate, as this war has done wonders to generate international sympathy for Palestine, and condemnation for Israel. Israel deserves a LOT of flak, as the past decade of Bibi’s policies have no doubt contributed to aggravating tensions leading up to October 7th. But, Palestine will never be free under Hamas. Ceasefire is unfortunately likely not possible. The return of whatever remaining hostages still alive (if there are any) is unfortunately not likely possible. And any ceasefire will last only long enough for Hamas to regroup to start resuming hostilities.

Obviously Columbia cant stop the war. No one is is saying or asking for that. But the least they could do as a place of education and growth would be not to give money for the military, which is about killing people, and to just put out a little statement, just one sentence that says something like, "Yeah maybe genocide isnt good, lets do something else."

I think the conversation would go more like, “Bibi, you’re going to cost me the election, cease fire NOW!” But this is an Evangelical production to force Armageddon and bring back Jesus. This is the reality we live in.

It blows my mind that people accepted into one of the most elite prestigious colleges in the country, can have such a naive view of the reality of global geopolitics.
It's been that way for decades. Vietnam protests were everywhere it seemed and tragedy did happen at Kent State. This unrest is caused by poor leadership in private sectors and politicians.
