Check your luggage before you pack or use a different set of bags to travel internationally. Your lucky it was only jail. Some countries have life sentences for that kind of thing.

Flying overseas with ammo is very stupid and wreckless. If you do not have the competence to know if you have ammo, nor research the laws as to where you are flying with lethal products; you should not be allowed to even purchase ammo or weapons. You are not responsible or competent enough period.
What type of plane? A commercial plane the TSA would have taken care of before boarding a flight. There are about nine other Americans that landed on the same soil, this past year or so, accused of the same exact circumstances. Something is fishy.

To carry around guns or ammunition when going outside the USA shows a true lack of social responsibility. This is not a new story, all been warned. To think you as as an American should get special treatment is beyond belief. You are in another country, you choose to be there, other counties have the right to have their own rules, laws, and regulations. When I hear an American speak about justice, it is about others.
