  • This is a MicroMelt. I decided to do a quick melt of some pop tabs, and turn them into an ingot. Some funny moments along the way, and a fail that I was not anticipating... I hope you all enjoy, and stay amazing my friends!

    I worked in a foundry and we had to hot press blades for tractors. the guy I was working with lost his grip on the tongs and idk wtf he was thinking but he tried to catch it...
    the part weighed about 50lbs and landed straight on his crotch out of the oven...
    kudos to you for not panicking

    Idk if you've ever seen a refrigerator compressor, but those things are an excellent source of copper. You should be able to yield a few pounds from each. You just need a grinder to get the case open. It's very stout.
    Also old school tube tv cones have about a pound of copper per. Just watch for a stored charge. Dont want to drop dead over 3 bucks worth of copper.

    In your experience how you say melting little pieces (pull tabs or cpu shards) or metal compares to large chunks (crushed cans)? Do you get more slag because of all the extra (potentially oxidized) surface area? It is reliably faster to fully melt (based on the episode my guess would be yes)?

    • @TheGrowingStack
      @TheGrowingStack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      jwaterdrag
      Definitely less from the pop tabs vs full cans. The cans have that lining on the inside and the ink that contribute more than the tabs. In my experience from little pieces to big pieces, it all depends on what you’re melting and the purity of it as far as dross goes. For the speed, the smaller pieces definitely melt faster.

      It kind of depends on which way or how big you’d want to go and what you currently have.
      I’d say you could get a nice furnace, a crucible, some tools(or make your own if you wanted) and have the basics to do this anywhere from $500-$750 depending on which direction you go. Thats assuming you have to buy everything. Send me an email if you want some more info, my email is in my channel description 👍

      @@beauford731 My fault my friend, I found that one on their Amazon store, I had to look back through my orders. I’ve bought some stuff directly from their site and some from their Amazon store. I just don’t remember if this is the 75oz or the 100oz, both are good though.

      @@beauford731 I know, I know. I feel your pain! I was tired of not having nice graphite molds so one day I said F it and bought the 50, 75, and the 100oz molds. I’m not gonna lie to you, it hurt. It hurt real bad 😂 But they are in good shape and I can’t imagine them falling apart any time soon.

    I’ve never seen a post tensioned concrete garage floor. Is that common where you live?

      It is common in my area because of the ground soil. 👍

    Instead of doing the math calculation, why not just reset the scale after the bowl was put on (unless you were wanting to know the bowl weight) 🤔
