A company I worked for used to buy these used motors all the time, they are super heavy-duty and most of the time can be still used or repaired for a lot cheaper than the cost of a new one. Some of the companies near me, especially Procter and Gamble, used to tear down entire process lines and just "junk" everything, so the resellers that bought up the entire line used to have all these motors and tanks and other stuff we'd buy used. Saved so much money.

That is a great project, fun to watch, really! On the next of those big ones you could see if you can get one of the sealing strips out, that might save a lot of work. Every slot in the stator is being closed with one of them, usually plastic, pertinax, sometimes wood. They slide in last during manufacturing, compress the windings in the slot and seal it towards the rotor. The two winding heads need to go first of course. We did that with a sharp chisel in the past. Less dirt.
This is so far the biggest & best melting I've ever seen. 😍 Loved the liquid copper in sunlight, it looked fantastic ❤️ Thanks bigstackD for spending so much time & energy for us subscribers. 🥰 #BigstackDArmy
Love the channel Bigstackd. Some suggestions I have for future melts - use borax or some other flux, as this will prevent oxygen from reaching the metal and will reduce how much metal converts to slag. This is especially helpful for powder melting. If you have a ball mill, crushing up slag and mixing it with powdered carbon (ex, charcoal) will help reduce the oxides back into the metal, making slag melts more efficient.
My eyes... Такого извращения я давно не видел. Спилил с одной стороны обмотку, с другой срезал стяжки, нагрел статор до температуры плавления лака и выдергивай пока горячее.

That trick where you put bolts inside where you were chiseling the housing apart was crucial. Don't want that to spring back and bite your fingers off!

I did like that trick!!
Im impressed by the tech that went into the building of the electric motor. Very intricate windings.
Can we all agree that speeded up sound of hammer is absolutely satisfying?
the color of the melted copper in day light is incredible! thank you for this fabulous video.

Yeah that one shot of the pour coming out of the crucible had a GORGEOUS color.

I love how he “finds” a hot cheesy pizza in a box under other stuff in his garage, or how he has a tote labeled burgers. 😂😂😂
You don't have a burger tote I thought they are as common as this comment
Surprisingly fresh for a tote burger, 😂
Its "borges" dont yall speak Australian? 🧐
I KNOW right??? Word of warning... Never come to his channel hungry!
I need some boxes like that hahaha
You don't realize how primitive the electric motor is - until you take apart one of this size! Practically pre-historic in shape and proportion.
A great melt-down job - as usual! Thanks for the ride-along!
What a fantastic job! Amazing that it took 7 days to tear apart, melt, clean up and edit. Really appreciate you sharing. 👍 Have a great weekend.
Dude… you got everything so organized and you’re so methodical but - for the sake of Pete ; you must find a better place for your pizza’s man!
I agree we care about you and your health idk where that pizza came from even though it looked so god dang delicious even I would have done the same stay awesome and healthy 😊

I'm sure he would have stored it with the burgers but it was just to large to fit

I've been gone for a year. I see you have a second devil forge. Congrats! Thank you for doing your part cleaning up the environment and entertaining the masses. You still teach to this day, impressive.
Man, I never realised how much goes into making motors like these. The disassembling was very interesting!
that thing looked solid as hell. Imagine my surprise when he took the air hammer to it and I learn that it's nothing by sheets of metal around those wires!
and even more work that goes into recycling them!!!!!
Ah.........
It took the high IQ of Nick Tesla to invent it.
I agree, but why would you make such a mess on your pristine driveway?
@@kransurfing not really. that thing would go into a shredder and be separated after the fact on the other side in bits. Maybe in india or somewhere the labour is cheap but not a professional recycler.
I worked in a recycling yard when I left school and loved doing this sort of stuff and playing with the big machines, it was a great outlet for my adhd
My goodness. That was very labor intensive. Makes me proud that I subbed to you. Thanks for another great video
we love you bigstack! also how much was that motor?
The editing, recording would be as just has labour intensive as the actual work.
Here was me thinking the 461kg motor was going to get you pretty close to the 1 tonne goal, clearly I didn't think it would only be the copper coming from it 😆 thank you for the big effort of the breakdown, melting and editing it truly was worth the effort and was a pleasure to watch 😋
I've NEVER seen that much copper in my life. Guys.. he used a shovel.. FOR COPPER DUST. That's insane🤯

The consistency of thickness on those ingots, Very impressive. Could feel the flow... pours kept getting more consistent,
Most of those were almost identical.
Why were you making them so small? Not that I am judging, but you have a lot of metal to do, why not do multiple larger ingots to go through what you melted faster? Is it just a preference because it melts faster than it freezes?
@@kevinclarke8795 The mold was getting too hot. I’m assuming he only has one. It doesn’t melt faster than it freezes but while it’s freezing in the mold it’s also freezing in the crucible.

I'm a mechanic for a motor shop and last time we sold out scrap motors it was about $0.15 a pound, almost an entire shipping container is worth about $6k-$8k when we sold it. Price used to be about $0.40 a pound.
Tons of work to process and refine that all, pretty sure it's just sent overseas
A lot of scrappers have that much copper kicking arround. I had over 600 lbs recently. I cashed it in because the prices are up right now.

He took it apart the hard way but then again never did one that huge
Yes I definitely did do it the hard way but the whole time I had the headphones in listening to some awesome music I had the beers running freely nice and cold and it was a good little workout and the end result was pretty good. I’m happy with the way it all worked out at the end of the day👊🏻😁

Your neighbours must love you…😄🛠 Great to see stuff getting recycled!
This bogan should go live out on some land, not in a suburb lol
Actually it's just a bar that still needs to be refined and recycled appropriately. No metal refiner or processor would buy this stuff at full value.

1:07 A large truck for that small Motor, Amazing
That liquid copper was so gorgeous when you were pouring it with the sun hitting it. Amazing.
Less dirt.
I'm a bit sad that the case on that monster wasn't aluminum.
That would have put a good size dent in your goal to a ton.
Liquid copper in daylight sure is a sight to behold. Beautiful metal

The longest video yet, super excited to watch!
