It’s so sad. GA had so many fans in America! I remember I listened to this everyday! Tangled up is my all time fav. I still play it today! I remember I bought the DVD and it wasn’t formatted for my player! I still have it!
My favorite GA album! I think Long Hot Summer gets undeserved hate, it's sounds like a classic GA song. I do wish they released Waiting as a single too.
Whole Lotta History has such a gorgeous video and the song doesn’t get enough credit. Their best ballad single. Just a bit weird releasing it after See the day. The album had at least two more potential singles with Models, Waiting and even Racey Lacey. Just goes to show how a group can grow within their sound. Getting better. The album hopefully sees a vinyl release in the future like all their albums need a proper release. All the girls belonged in that group. ❤
Whole Lotta History is also my fave ballad they released. The way it starts off so simply but lets the listener know immediately that something is wrong, then it builds throughout the song. “Baby, I miss you So tell me Is she really that beautiful? Woah, oh Each time she's kissed you Tell me Is it that really that good for you? Does she love you Like I never could? Hold you tender Tell you everything's good? Woah, oh, woah, oh Would she hurt you? 'Cause I never could Does she Hold your body tight All night, baby?” These lyrics always get me without fail. Such a beautiful, heartbreaking song.
haven't heard the full album yet but i heard the biology single a while back and was immediately blown away by how wildly different and experimental it was while still remaining a catchy fun pop song.
Well I’ve got a whole new appreciation for Whole Lotta History now. Great work on putting these together. Tangled Up will always be my number one so I’m very excited for the next one!
Oh my god, I just LOVED girls aloud when i was a kid ♡ your channel is AWESOME ♡ could i make a request? could you make similar documentaries about british / irish boy groups? maybe about boyzone, westlife, 5ive or take that? ♡
Amazing as always! Cant wait for the deep dive of Tangled Up, the holy grail. Also we NEED Singapore on streaming and I NEED to hear their cover of wicked games
Upstanding documentary as usual! Long Hot Summer was the song that made me fall in love with GA and SKO was the one that made me a stan so this era will always be one of my favorites. I hope we get a WWTNS documentary as well
I have seen so many people talk shit about their cover of "See the Day" and I won't stand for it. I have always thought it was fantastic, their voices together give it even more layers.
It's the fact it should have never been released in the first place. All the girls pretend it doesn't exist and for good reason tbh! Releasing a song just because it's a ballad and you're stuck for one otherwise (even though Whole Lotta History exists and was released straight after anyway 🤦🏻♂️) is not exactly inspiring or enthusiastic. See The Day is not a bad song but it sticks out like a sore thumb on Chemistry and just doesn't belong frankly. There were so many better single choices that would've performed better and this era had potential to be a great one but this was by far their messiest era thanks to the label.
I have the CD singles boxset with all the B-sides & remixes...overall, Chemistry might be my second fave GA album after Tangled Up & it's where they really found their sound really...its a shame the US was really left out of the equation, a core group of US music lovers would have taken to em...oh and loved the Christmas tracks too
Seeing this now, I really do feel like this album suffered so much by wrong single choices. While I like all of them more or less, Long Hot Summer and See The Day haven't been good choices for singles (Long Hot Summer wasn't as bad as See The Day though, that one was just too soon after Biology and then they had two ballads right after one another...). The album probably would have done so much better with a different release shedule, like Biology as lead single and Whole Lotta History for christmas as only second single. And then maybe two other songs from the Album. (I really love Swinging London Town for example, but I guess it might have been a tad too edgy for radio 😄)
Great review love them. I Think "See the Day" wasnt needed as a single.. they could of had it as a b side to "Whole lotta History " one ballad is all that was needed.... and it "Whole lotta History "would have been a better Christmas single.. This album wasnt my favourite from them at the time.. I actually really liked " Long Hot Summer " it such a Girls Aloud sound. SUGABABES had definitely more No 1s
Wasn't Crazy Fool the B-Side to Whole Lotta History? That's such a banger, I am really glad it got released as such! It thematically matched with WLH so good. I feel See The Day would have been overkill as a B-Side to fast song. The bitterness of Crazy Fool balances out the "sadness" of the main single so well imo.
For me, this if their best and most interesting album. The dreary, treacly Save The Day aside, Chemistry features their most varied collection of sounds (Out Of Control would try to achieve such diversity as well, but to lesser effect). Biology is one of their top 3 singles and tracks ever, and Whole Lotta History is easily their best ballad.
I used to Hate 'See the Day" as it felt Heavily Nadine Oriented. and felt like "I'll Stand by You" idk i don't like their Overly emotional songs.. I still feel that way. but i did listen to See The Day like 4 times after this and added it to my favorites.
Rumor has it, yes. But those things never really get confirmed. But seeing the chart positions, I don't think it's far fetched that this almost happened...
I listened to the second My Chemical Romance album before heading out to a club where they played Something Kinda Ooh. Classic Hoxton Hero behaviour except I didn’t even have a pork pie hat.
Stuck for ballads?!? Whole Lotta History was RIGHT THERE! What a waste of a single See The Day was, honestly. I think most of my hate for STD comes from the fact not only does it stick out like a sore thumb on Chemistry but also the nerve to release it as a single for ballad's sake. My favourite album by them but my god, the MESSIEST era of their's!! What were the label playing at, honestly! 🥴
It honestly felt like Polydor wanted to drop the group but WWTNS sold better than their debut so they couldn’t with good reason. Instead they begrudgingly put the bare minimum into Chemistry. Sound of Girls Aloud did a lot of heavy lifting to prove the group had mass commercial appeal.
Agree with both points. Chemistry had A LOT of single potential! Why See The Day, I will never know!! Even more pointless now seeing as they released Whole Lotta History immediately after anyway... 🤦🏻♂️
That scene actually cracks me up. Yes, she was a brat at that particular moment in time whilst she was probably tired, hot, bothered with a pack of other girls with her AND a camera crew obligated to film her, but I'm sure we know young girls (and gays) in their early 20's who have had far more brattier moments without having the work schedule she had AND with a camera crew filming their every move. I personally love seeing the less perfect side to our fave popstars.

i agree - the video was a mess though
At the time I thought the video was too FHM magazine and I guess I still do but it’s such a great GA banger.
Nadine re: Nicola's bday: "never even thought about a gift... she can GET LOST" LOL

Nicola’s verse is so beautiful on it. I also loved No Regrets and It’s Magic.
I always wished Waiting had been a single.
I wish they released Whole Lotta History instead of See The Day. And then follow it up with an uptempo song.
@@vitorcunha400 totally agree!
That's strange that they did release 2 ballads back to back..I forgot about that but I'm not from the UK and found them a bit later.
Nadine & Nicola's live vocals on the Whole Lotta History performances were soooooooo good.
Their greatest hits album is massive. Like it sold more than the first 3 albums combined.

it's not the best thing in the world but it's definetely not a bad song, i only dislike the fact that Kimberly doesn't have any solos

Does anyone know if it was true that Polydor was threatening to drop the group after Chemistry underperformed?

Forces the group to release two ballads in a row, underperforms, threatens to drop the group... make it make sense 😅🥹

The singles run for Chemistry was all wrong, should have been
1. Biology
2.Waiting
3.Whole Lotta History
4.Wild Horses
Biology screamed lead single! Could have been a number one.
Wild Horses?!? Definitely not!! Models or Watch Me Go would've done better!
@@husamelzien5738they do technically describe it as the lead single
I always thought Biology was the lead single because as a lay man at the time Long Hot Summer didn’t have the ‘comeback single’ energy.
