    Thanks Doc. Common sense mechanics. I like that. Get them to do the simple stuff maybe they will take on the hard stuff too. You're a good man, the world needs more of you. God knows the common biker is no longer capable of anything beyond filling the tank, and pressing the start button. That fails its game over. Great video!

    Yes sir, see it all the time. Someone will tell me "my bike or car, truck, etc, is doing weird things and runs rough " The frist thing that I tell them is check you battery connections at the stater, the battery, the ground to the frame, motor, etc. even the charging system. Dirty grounds are the biggest culprits out there on just about anything. Good piece of advice. I really like you videos and have even learned a thing or two from you. Thanks Doc.

    Easy check to see if your cables or connections need attention, use a voltmeter between the two ends and measure the voltage drop while cranking the engine. Any more than one volt drop means there's an issue to be addressed. Also, rubber mount engines have TWO ground cables, one from the battery to the starter, one from the driveline to the frame. Both need to be checked. If the frame has a good ground and the driveline does not, it could smoke your clutch cable because it just turned into the path of least resistance.

    Hey Doc, been following your channel for a while and you explain the more common issues with Harley’s well and the fix for it. I’ve scrolled thru your videos and haven’t been able to find one regarding an issue I’m having. I have a 2020 Street Glide Special and noticed when I’m accelerating I’m getting a faint rattle that seems to be coming from my fairing. Usually hear it around 3000 RPM. And thoughts on what it may be? Thinking it’s an external rattle. Thanks bud! Keep the videos coming!

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a tough one. You will have to separate the noise from motor or chassis. Ask the questions of, Dose it do it only at 3000 in every gear? in neutral?, on rough surfaces, in a curve? Remember a fairing reflects many sounds so it could be coming from somewhere else than where you hear it. And finally the question must be asked,"What was the last thing I did or added to the bike before the Noise showed up....Doc

    Good preventive maintenance tip, Doc. I am at 4.5 years with my OEM battery (2018 FLXS) and it still works fine, I’m pretty sure I need to swap it out soon ‘just because.’ I don’t ever recall getting over 4 years on a motorcycle battery in 45+ years of riding, what’s your experience?

  • @mr.ohitiin6145

    Hey Doc, I've a question that's driving me crazy. I got a NOCO BOOST X GBX 75, so it's pretty powerful. My batter is dead, I connect the positive from the jumper box to the positive of the batter, or stater, and the negative to the ground, a nut to the passenger pegs or bolt from the engine or frame, but nothing happens, absolutely nothing. I turn the key, and everything remains dead, nothing. No sign of life. Why? what's going on? Why my bike won't jump start with the jumper box?
    Thank you Doc.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว

      1st you did not mention what Harley Model you own. If it is rubber mounted, the Power train to frame may be compromised. But more than likely, a completely dead battery can not work in a Harley-Davidson. There has to be some voltage in the battery, preferably near 12 volts…..Doc

    • @mr.ohitiin6145
      @mr.ohitiin6145 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LowCountryHarleyDavidson Hi Doc, thank you for your quick reply. I thought it didn't make any difference of what kind of Harley it is, but I got a 2004 Sportster Custom. And the Noco gbx 75 jump starter box claims to start dead batteries. But I know my battery wasn't completely dead because I had turned my bike on earlier that afternoon and I checked with the multimeter--it read 6. something. So it really drives me crazy! why does everybody jump start their bikes and every time my bike won't start I can't seem to jump start it, with what I believe to have a great jump starter? What seems to be the problem? Am I connecting the clamps wrongly? I mean, where do the cables need to be connected in order to jump-start your bike, to the negative and positive from the battery itself, or can it be connected to the positive of the starter and a bolt from the frame or engine? I mean jump starting a vehicle is as simple as drinking a glass of water, but my bike doesn't want to jump start and I end up stranded on the road and forced to call AAA
      Thanks for your help Doc

    • @patrickzambori473
      @patrickzambori473 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recommend diagnosing the starter and repairing it. Nothing logical about replacing an entire starter when individual repair parts are available. These starters are very common in the automotive world and your local auto electric repair shop can refurbish and test them 100%. If buying new and OEM is out of the budget, I defer to All Balls through Drag Specialties.

    How difficult is that to get to on a Fat Bob Dyna?

    • @patrickzambori473
      @patrickzambori473 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a threaded post welded to the frame backbone under the seat. The two battery cables get together at this post, then final ground connection is on the starter mounting bolt. The Dyna is notorious for a poor ground connection at the starter bolt, because of the powdercoating between the lug and boss. Clean it down to bare metal.
