    Thanks for the shout-out!
We've done lot of testing of different wires, paying specific attention to the Ion Sensing on the Twin Cams. Making sure to keep the resistance in the proper range for the system to work can make a significant difference in performance.

You didn't dictate what we should do, you gave us info and suggested we make up our own mind.
As for me, I stay with Harley parts. The only Harleys I have found dead by the side of the road had aftermarket parts. The screaming eagle wires I bought for my 2000 wide glide are awesome. They have about 45,000 miles on them and they work like new. I should probably run a test on them but the bike starts instantly and runs great.

I replaced my stock wires for Screamin’ Eagle wires on my ‘08 FXDF along with Accel u groove plugs. I switch out the plugs every 6 months because I can. The original stock wires were 10 years old so I thought it was time. I have a Stage 1 set up and really enjoy my HD. I know I over maintain my bike but it give me great joy. Always appreciate your videos, especially that you are interested in helping owners understand and not hustling parts. Been through a few electronic ignitions on my '86 Sportster (similar to the bike behind you, including the S&S carb), but little by little I've reached back a bit and installed a points ignition with copper core wires. Cheap (as you note in the beginning), easy to static time to the advance mark with nothing but a screwdriver, feeler gauge, and a slip of cellophane. Runs like a champ (or at least a champ with 98,000 miles on it). A bit more maintenance intensive, but at 71, with a couple of beers, what else do I have to do beside fiddle with my old bike and ride it?

Nice video, Thanks for the explanation. Experience shows that "aged" plugs and wires cause the ECM to regulate to a safer setting. That reduces power. The longer your wiring and plugs are 100%, the better the ECM can regulate. It's not about 10 horses, but a good ignition system keeps your engine healtier.

Doc, thank you. I'm getting a knock at certain throttle-on loads, even at idle. I believe it's my throttlebody butterfly valve chattering. This happened after I put on the Phat wires (stock plugs), high flow air filter, V&H Power duals, S&S 475C cam and oil pump, and a canned Fuel Moto tune. I'm now adding a S.E. 55mm aluminum intake manifold and doing an actual dyno tune at the dealership this week. Should I go back to stock plug wires? Have you ever heard of this butterfly valve chattering? Could it be something else? The tech said Harley is all over the place with tolerancing on their throttle bodies and that I might have gotten one out of tolerance or on the high side of it. Any thoughts at all? I appreciate it!

Great video! Thank you for making it and putting out this info.
My 2 cents: some folks might presume that modern Harleys have Knock Sensors to detect detonation in the cylinders/combustion chambers (re: such as found in cars) which communicate (provide input) to the ECM/ECU and then an output signal to retard timing to counter the detonation. However, Harley is using Ion Sensing (ECU measuring the resistance of [spark plug wires & the spark plugs]. Very critical to use the correct spark plug wires & spark plugs for the Ion Sensing software to operate correctly. On Baggers, 2014 and newer: Rubbing issues with spark plug wire (wires?) to # 1 cylinder??? News to me.

My 2019 RGS with 50,000 miles started running very sick after a bath or riding in heavy Florida rain.
Wasn't sure what caused this issue to suddenly start as my dealership had just done a head, piston and cylinder rebuild on my bike. I did go back to them and mentioned what had happened and they had no idea without a proper inspection as my bike had not thrown any codes.
Since watching your video and another one about plug wires you both mentioned the rubbing issue, this I think is my problem and Im going to make a trip to my local dealership and pickup a set of red phat wires.
Going with the red phat ones as more protection, my bike is red and I know they are gonna give me lots more hp ;)

In my opinion, with better made spark plug wires the efficiency and longevity is improved. But the manufacturer coil and spark plugs are only going to “perform” within the standard’s designed. Now a coil made to perform stronger with efficient plug wires and iradium spark plugs could deliver a stronger spark. On the street would you feel the difference, maybe. Starting yes, idle and acceleration only if the timing and fuel is there to match. I have often wondered if improving this area would effect the anti-knock system on Twin Cams that the ECM measured the resistance of the spark to adjust the timing🤔….Doc

so based off of this info, Doc, I have never been a fan of the cowbell and the horn located under it, so I relocated the horn on 2016 Street Glide, I then relocated the coil to that location, therefore the plug wires are much shorter. it looks amazing in my opinion. I have read that running shorter plug wire will interfere with how the motor runs, I ain't feeling it, but can you put my mind at ease?

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson

Stock motor with air cleaner and exhaust? If so you are probably OK.
If motor work is at hand and you have a good rich tune probably OK
Wild motor work, with no tune? Ignition timing could be struggling,
