      There ventilation techniques were suspect! That's why it spread out of control! Even the guy filming pointed that out! I wouldn't call this great by any means!

    This footage captured every firefighters nightmare....old wood, mazes of hallways, drop ceilings added walls. To see the speed this fire spread was truly shocking to watch. Architecturally, I still love old structures, but your videos has forever changed my ability to spend time in them.

    Great job once again. It's surprising that the departments don't have radios, especially on the tower trucks. The chiefs having to yell up to the crews on the towers. You are right about the older buildings. I have to give FDNY a lot of credit for how they fight fires but they are also a much larger operation.

  • @kartracer5g229
    @kartracer5g229 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very common fire behavior in a old. Style construction building... so many different void spaces from when it was built and any remodels during its time makes for many many different ways that fire can hide and spread throughout the building.... when it gets going like that you aren't gettin ahead and your gonna be doing surround and drown til you can make it inside to hit any remaining pockets of fire... if you even can make it back inside depending on the structural integrity of the building when it dies down... great video as usual 👌

    Great coverage of this fire and the other companies! Looks so different from the FDNY. I am nominating my “Golden Nozzle” award to the members fighting this blaze solo with hand lines. Particularly to the firefighter crouched on the road wrestling with a very powerful hose to try to drown the demon! Bravo!! That popping noise seemed like the building shouting “surrender” as the support beams gave up the battle. Very sad! Thanks JJ for the usual, beyond usual, experience you bring us! ❤️‍🔥🚒❤️‍🔥

    These styles of buildings are always hard to battle, so tightly close and when fire is in the walls it can travel so fast that ladder truck stream can't hit it. The only way is to rip-out the walls and ceilings to expose the flames, but with the roof fully involved the way it is you have to keep your crews safety a priority first and defensive.

      It takes a bit of time to establish adequate a water supply to aerial master streams. Usually a large diameter hose line((LDH) 5 or even 6 inch hose must be laid by an engine and pumped from a dedicated hydrant, sometimes hundreds of feet away. Firefighters motto: big fire = Big water.

    I have to admire mutual aid operations (there were many in New Jersey when I lived there), but the coordination can be difficult. I have to assume that they are aware of the capabilities of nearby departments. Also, interesting to see both tower ladders and a conventional ladder with a water nozzle. All of that replaced the old water tower units from earlier times.

    Excellent coverage and that popping sound could be from Aerosol cans as there`s a Grocery shop close by. I suppose the up side to this fire would be that there is little to no wind. If it was windy, the building next door would be gone too.

    Another excellent video, JJ!
    I don't think I could stand to live in buildings that are all together like that knowing that if one goes there's a good chance that the others will go, too. It's so very sad that so many folks have lost everything they had. 😢
    I do have a question, though. I watched your day after video, (and that was another good one), and my question is how could they determine the cause of the fire if they demolished the building so quickly?

    • @THEMAJESTIRIUM1
      @THEMAJESTIRIUM1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      YES, I AGREE.....VERY SAD AND TOO CLOSE INDEED.....AS FOR THE CAUSE THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION INDEED.....I AM NOT SURE HOW THEY DID THE INVESTIGATION EITHER.....THANKS SO MUCH.....

    Unfortunately old buildings like that are hard to contain. Unless you get a good hit on it it’s usually a defensive operation. Fought many like that as a Volunteer for 44 years.

    Nice video. If this was a volunteer area this place wouldn't need demolished. I know where I live it would of been a county all call and this place would of been about almost burned down. Tanker runs are far in farm country Pennsylvania.

    The turbulent column of flames and sparks at the beginning says it all. It will be a pain to take out. I bet there is a lot of wood and vertical venting spaces in the walls of these older buildings.

    You mentioned how these fires have to be dealt with quickly and aggressively. The first thing that came to my mind was the Marcal Paper factory. That not only spread throughout that whole (iirc 200 acre) complex, but it also started house fires in town because of the flying embers. That is a prime example of what can happen with these very large fires.
