    You are becoming my favorite POV content creator man . Love the way you are ruthless but at the same time respectful with vendors … I’ve never been a fan of buying slabs at eBay auction sales because at the end of the day bids are usually a bunch of people low balling each other with the luckiest most persistent low baller winning the auction … I’m also a Bay Area native and have recently started going to different shows in the area and your videos are a testament of how to interact with vendors

    One of my core memories with pokemon is either getting 3 free cards on the bus in 3rd grade (had no idea what they were at the time), finding a $10 shining jirachi full art card in a mid-vintage lot I bought for $40, or probably going to my first ever card shop today and buying a bunch of cool stuff!!!! Love your vids man, keep up the great work!

    I'm a Sylveon collector and one of my core Pokemon memories is when I got a Gardevoir & Sylveon Tag Team alt art. Normally worth over $200, but got it for $30 because it had a crease. My partner and I didn't have the extra money at first and anxiously checked every day for weeks until payday. Finally, we bought it, and it’s now the prized gem of my collection!

    I love seeing collectors go to these shows and add to their personal collection instead of flipping/WhatNot etc. Keep doing what you’re doing and your channel will grow!
    My favourite memory has to be playing Pokemon Blue for the first time as a young one. That feeling was truly special.

    • @oyamastrading

      This comment really means a lot because this is essentially why I started making these videos.
      There wasn't much buyer POV on youtube compared to vendor POV, and more than half of the creators doing buyer POV have been card biz guys dropping $40k in a weekend on inventory (no knock on them - I watch those too!). But I went into it thinking people might want to see realistic buyer POV where someone spends $200-2000, with a majority being random things they liked for their collection.

    Just curious, why do you use TCGPlayer LOW instead of Market Price? And a secondary question, how do you get a way with that with vendors, all the vendors I talk to say they won't use the LOW, they go off of Market price.

    • @oyamastrading
      @oyamastrading  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! So of course buyers and sellers may have different incentives when setting price. As a *buyer* the TCGPlayer Low (or eBay BIN low) is quite literally the price I could buy that card for now. I couldn't care less if the MARKET average is $500, if I could buy the card for $400 standing right there (before taxes etc of course).
      MARKET can also be influenced by outlier sales, and it may not reflect an active move DOWN in the market (i.e. probably common on brand new sets, a few initial sales set the Market Average, but as supply goes up, the increased competition drives the floor down as sellers undercut each other. Again -- as a buyer, why would I care about a $500 market price, if every sale in the past day or two are $430? Market price will update to reflect the move DOWN within a couple days.
      That's the logic I go to when discussing price with vendors. Obviously if we're talking low value cards with small margins, I don't expect them to budge (i.e. market is $5 but TCGPlayer verified low is $4.20). But as the buyer with the cash, IMO it's often defensible to say, "why would I buy this from you for Market, if I'm staring at a listing of the same card in the same condition for $X less on ebay right now?

      In the same vein, I don't fight hard to get low outlier prices like a $500 card where I could cherrypick one individual ebay auction that went for $440, when the lowest BINs are $480 and average prices are around $500. I'd want as the buyer to price that closer to the $480, acknowledging that I *can't* just up and buy the card for $440, it'd require luck and timing winning an underpriced auction which may never happen.

      @@jclipz_ i figured id get this question eventually! About 2/3 is for my personal collection which I display or vault in various places. About 1/3 is for resale.
      I’ll start a little bit of card show vending later in the year as well so the bias might tilt to 50/50 buying to collect and buying to resell. My biggest thing in starting these buyer POVs though was that most buyer POVs on youtube were card business guys, nothing against it at all (i watch those guys drop 35k in a weekend too) .. but I felt like there had to be demand for more realistic collector-oriented buyer POV

      @@oyamastrading sweet! We share similar interest sort of. Rn I’ve been investing in mid- high end raw cards to resell, or to get graded and resell them. Wanting to make extra money for my personal collection. Would you have any tips?

      @@jclipz_ That's exactly how I got started selling pokemon cards again! As my PC grew in value I thought, "could I make enough with Pokemon cards to eventually cover the cost of my collection?"
      Tips for sure but would depend on what you have access to! My last video was card show buyer tips. But most of my profit is made buying and selling lots online. I think biggest tip is find people who regularly grade a lot of stuff themselves. People who do well grading have a ton of margin built in so they're easy to make deals with on slabs. I've bought $1-2k lots at 70% a few times and done really well on those, and they get to unload 10-20 items in one transaction and they're probably still up 200%. Everyone wins.

      @@oyamastrading I’ll definitely take a look at the video you mentioned. what would you say is easier to resell, raw cards or graded cards. Also looking to send in a few cards to get graded. The cost to do that is a lot but possible return could be massive. Would you recommend someone who is just starting to build a small business to invest in getting cards graded or buy graded?

    • @oyamastrading
      @oyamastrading  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jclipz_ getting cards graded is the most lucrative but it for sure requires some experience and time. I'm super new to it so I can't give much advice on how to do it well -- yet anyway.
      As for what's better to sell, really depends on your goal. If you want to build a bunch of feedback and experience do singles around $10ish. If you want to make decent money in an absolute sense, focus on $50-1000 slabs IMO

    I always wondered why the ungraded cards the vendor has are priced so high when i go to price charting or tcg, for ungraded its like 10-20$? Am i missing something lol

      @@ChillStudyDate not sure what you’re referring to specifically but in short vendors can ask for any amount, it just doesnt mean they’ll sell it. For pricecharting the variation probably has to do with condition. Have to click into the listing to properly appreciate if you’re looking at something mint vs damaged
