It was such a good episode, I enjoyed Boyd's backstory and I wasn't expecting that Abby twist, I originally thought the monsters had gotten her. Things really were that perilous before the talismans were found, they hid at night and hoped for the best and somehow it doesn't surprise me those things shrieked!
This analysis says everything and even more about my own conclusions. A little sadness for Father Khatry's confirmed death, but my consolation is that his death can be seen as a sacrificial catalyst for change. We observe the bound between the people getting stronger, old wounds and resentments healing up. The white dressed boy and the dog are ambiguous and may it be that they are trying to help out, a kind of blessing in disguise? Let's hope that Boyd's journey, which is a necessary evil, be free of misfortune, and do not end bloodily like last time when his son told him to stay and care for Abi. Next episode will sure be "Epix"!

Boyd and Sara journey deeper into the forest than Boyd has ever gone, encountering new and terrifying mysteries; Jim's confidence in the radio tower begins to wane; an unexpected tragedy causes Donna to unravel; Kenny and Kristi share a moment. Episode 9 😧
I just keep thinking about the last episode when the voices/ whispers told Sarah that “they were just like us”. Which made me think that the monsters were once human.
I also agree. Plus, in one of the first episodes the girl thought she saw her grandmother in the window. Then she was eaten and attacked. It tricked her but she thought it was someone she knew. Also the daughter who lives at colony house seemed to know one of the monsters before she went in the Colony house I think too!
Great review! Ok, so I am still unsure what the creatures are. Each episode provides more and more clues. However, what this latest episode solidified for me, is that they are in some form of a game or battle. I believe the environment they are in is a game field or some type of board. This explains to me why it is only a part of a town, and then massive woods. Whoever the facilitator or organizers are, they developed an environment familiar to humans. They also provided the needs of humans: water, shelter, food (via animals and plants), furniture, and appliances. Its not like any of these ppl pay bills, but yet the basic needs humans need to stay alive are provided. Then the removal of the car batteries. This explains why ppl aren’t still driving until gas runs out. It appears the facilitators are removing the car batteries once the people leave out of the cars. These images of the dogs, the soldier, and the boy-also the voices-- to me are the facilitators interrupting the game to change courses or create chaos. Jade keeps seeing images because from the gate, he was determined to discover what is going on. The images are to scare and deter him. The dog appears when ppl are venturing too far into the woods. I also think Abby was hearing voices and the dog appeared to cause Boyd to get lost. Boyd was traveling in the woods daily since he got there, and the first time he sees the dog and gets lost, is the same time Abby happens to snap. I believe this was to find the talismans and also create chaos because Boyd was bringing order and advantages to the humans. The people there seem to be chosen. They all have different skills and backgrounds that brings something to “game”. They have possibly been watched for a while, and the facilitators may have even taken some things from them like the bracelet, and become familiar with these people’s lives. Lastly, the talismans. This sealed the deal for me that this is some sort of survival game. The talismans do not hurt the creatures. They do not scare the creatures. The only they do is implement a new rule. The rule is the creatures cannot enter an enclosed space UNLESS they are invited in, or you open a door or window. You most likely won’t be invited in or have a person open a door or window by screaming! 🤣🤣So, when the humans found the talisman, now instantly, the creatures can talk and whisper. Once the humans found the advantage of the talismans, the creatures received an advantage of speaking and manipulating, so they can continue the hunt. Also when the Colony House female creature told the girl, we know all of your names. That told me that is another advantage they are receiving by the facilitators to hunt the humans, info about the humans weaknesses and strengths.
I am feeling and noticing the same things! I feel like alien type beings is the right direction and they are in some sort of game. The lights don’t have any reason to work, and they visions and trees also do not make sense. It needs to be some sort of higher being to create things like this.
I’m also leaning towards fairies. In Irish folktales they can pull you in another realm. The faraway trees align, as does the attacking at night, and the fact that they can look human, trick you and you can hid from them indoors. They also like to play games and enjoy the attack. I’m super torn. But fairies, or aliens and this some sort of game to them is what I am leaning towards.
I agree, I think this is a game, also. The humans and the creatures are both being used as players in this game. The talismans are like 'powerups". And now that the season and they seem to be in a new place with a lighthouse that they've reached another level in the game.

Anyone notice how the townspeople/extras are always carrying a bag/purse or container of some sort? 😂 Like they’re going shopping, need to buy things or or need to carry things around the little town street. Even when they were attending the funeral in the early episode.
I was also wondering why in the earlier episodes, the monsters transformed into white skinned, bald headed naked demonic creatures, while in later episodes the only thing that changes is the teeth and claws.
Stealth that's why, she couldn't make a lot of noise and break through walls ripping everything apart they are essentially like The Thing, they're intelligent to do what they do.
The thing with the shrieking of the monsters supports a theory that I have. I believe that the monsters may be fed or at least are seeking the fear of the towns people. The way they display the remains of their victims initially made me wonder. If your goal was to kill as many of them as possible, shrieking would be counter productive as it serves as a last call for those who have to hide. Now that they know where they're hiding (inside with talismans) they can scare them fairly easily without and its no longer necessary as they can just leave bodies outside their homes and actively taunt them where they know they are.
This would also explain why they don't run. The creepy walk is super effective is giving us all nightmares, and if their main goal was actually just to kill as many as possible, they'd run.
When those monsters attacked Frank while he was in the box, the actual attack itself was very fast. But when Trudi was killed, they seemed to move slowly, playing with her hair, taking their time. We don't actually see Jasmine attack Kevin once she bites his tongue off, but it seems to me their method of attack has also changed. They don't fully transform, either.
Exactly. You can also see one of the monsters seemingly enjoying the feel of the plant leaves and the railing of the stairs-the same way someone feels when they get glasses or hearing aids for the first time.
Remember when Victor followed Julie into the faraway tree but he didn't end up where she did? Maybe he ended up in the forest when Boyd was lost and that's why the dog ran off
That would be really cool, and would then establish that the trees also displace you across time. I also have a feeling that the chickens and cattle have been brought to the town through the faraway trees and likely from another dimension/realm.
@@FromLand That's what I was thinking. Also, is there any relevance in the people who end up in the town and what their background/job is? It seems like they've been chosen by someone/something based on their skills, especially Boyd. It seems like too significant a detail to be a coincidence

Episode 10: "Oh, The Places We'll Go" Boyd draws strength from an unlikely source; Jim's radio tower yields consequences which rock him to his very core; the hole that Tabitha has been digging leads her somewhere, and to someone, she could never have expected.
The dog still confuses me because it’s shown in one of Victor’s drawings sitting next to two of the smiling monsters, which seems to connect it with them
Anyone ever notice in scenes when there is background noise that once the characters start talking to each other the background noise goes totally silent ? It’s not even a slow fade out just quick silence. It’s almost like it is intentional. At first I thought it was just bad editing but then I noticed a trend during some scenes.
@@FromLand my daughter just started watching the series and she pointed out the same thing. Again, not sure if it is just bad sound editing or if it is intentional.
The monsters stopped screaming after the people of the town started using the talismans, because they changed their strategy they know screaming will be useless, whispering is better to lure people.
That would be the Occam's razor answer to the mystery, but I suspect there's a lot more to it (especially having to do with the monsters evolving/turning more human).
@@FromLand It could be possible, what I can't put together is the science-fiction behind the town and the fantasy behind the talismans and the monsters two opposite things! the mysteries of this show are killing me, and I cant wait to see the next episodes.
@@FromLand I hope you will, I have read some abstracts from Wikipedia about the next episodes of this show but was not enough to make a conclusion about the monsters and the talismans.
Host... Do you have an explanation of the crayon drawings predicting or creating the future? Did this main character interact with a Druid curse and cause the chaos?
I suspect that the crayons are just a retelling of what already happened, or some sort of prophetic-like scripture in the format of a child’s art (which makes one think of Father Khatri’s comments about a new book of the Bible). Victor and Ethan surely seem special, and a possibility that has been mentioned is that the faraway trees may also allow travel across time.
Except that they looked like humans (def saw the milkman) in the woods even before Boyd found the talismans. And the creature that slashed the father was fully monster-looking
I was referring to their behavior, and the ability to speak which they didn’t seem to have back in 2019. My suspicion is that some monsters are more human-like than others, but not all of them.
@@FromLand I think they are the original inhabitants of this town degenerated by a curse or magic … killing humans maybe allow the monster / Wendi-go / demon thing it’s humanity .. it wants … one said” I didn’t chose to be this way “ right before she chewed his tongue off and tore his back open …. And subsequently helped slaughter colony house .
I've been watching these episodes over again to see what I've missed. I'm wondering if this is a game. The humans and creatures are the players, and are being used by something else to play this game. It would explain why they get food and other essentials, like electricity, to keep them in the game. And couldn't the talismans be like a "powerup"? Maybe when the humans reach a certain level in the game, then the monsters also gain an advantage, like being able to speak. This is why I think it may all be a game
Not expecting a reply, just making my own notes. I think it's a microcosm. Episode 10 reinforced this, along with hollow-earth or pocket universes, living allegories and gears smoothly turning to keep the whole universe existing.
I think the ghost people brought everyone there because they are trapped too. They brought people with special sets of skills/attributes that could possibly help figure out how to get everyone out. At any point if the town got comfortable or lost people the ghost people bring another family/group of people in
Eu acho que os monstros são antigos moradores da cidade que foram presos lá por algum motivo. E que Victor sempre morou na cidade. Mas não foi transformado em monstro por algum motivo.
Why has nobody tried to move that tree... I wonder what would happen if that tree is moved. That tree being there has been the start of all the people being trapped in that town every time
I think once they get into that town they don't see the tree anymore. If all the townspeople got together they could probably move it, but only one or a few people at a time come across it and its too big for them to move.
Do the talismans only work if they are hung up beside a doorway? What if someone hung one around his neck? Why don't they work if they are on the floor? Remember when Kristi has that dream where Jim takes the talisman down and is holding it and the creatures are able to get in? Would they work inside a tent? They worked inside a cave, so I guess so.
Why don’t they chop the fallen tree in the road into pieces to see if more people still get lost there? Also they could write down the descriptions of the monsters to keep a manifest of them and find out how many they are, find out more about them
I don’t think that little ghost boy is trying to help. When he does that little curtsy or whatever and smirk on the merry-go-round after he walk through the dead town, I believe he was signaling to Victor that he killed everyone and is proud. Idk. Whatever that little gesture was, it wasn’t a gesture that made me feel like he was trying to help
Did Boyd place a talismans in the cabin with Donna before he left I don't remember seeing one. If he didn't how did she survive the night. The town drunk was ripped to pieces with no talismans in his holding cell.
We know this heavily drawn from Norse mythology, we get hits, two opposing sides chaos and order tho which side is which, and hints that this is a game. The monsters behavior is very orderly for them to be chaos. The sides of order and chaos could be possible flip This could be a game between 2 Norse gods using one side as pawns.
In Norse mythology the Norse gods loved to play a game that was the predecessor of modern chess (called tafl). That early version of chess was actually a game of siege with 2 opposing teams of uneven numbers struggling to dominate the center of the board game (I explained in an earlier video that this may play into the show's symbology). The forces of chaos is what Norse Mythology calls Loki's army (agents of destruction/chaos). In the context of the show, chaos is that which we don't understand, the unknown, that which destroys, devours, the source of nightmares, fears, uncontrolled emotion, savagery. The monsters in the show easily fit the latter. Let's also not forget that chaos isn't necessarily something evil, but a catalyst for change and growth, because there can't be order without chaos.
So Victor told Julie that he was right behind him. Yet ,Victor didn't come through. So where is Victor? Could he had wound up some place else?, or could Victor be among the 14 people at Colony house that died?
He stated previously that you don’t always go to the same place when entering the faraway tree. He also mentioned that it is “one of” them, implying that there’s multiple faraway trees. My guess is he ended up somewhere else. Not sure if within the town, outside of it, or maybe in the town but in a different dimension/period of time.
I just can't stand Jim's character. Biggest douchebag on tv in my opinion. He has been that way since he arrived in town. He can't cope with what is happening and lashes out at everyone. I hope the monsters take him.
I predicted that the community was not divided before the arrival of Boyd's family. I wish the writers would've fleshed out why and how the community became divided between the colony house and the town. We didn't get an understanding as to why Donna is so hostile towards Boyd, when he actually saved her life. I think there are monsters that roam during the day. The towns people who attempted to invade the diner for rations, Jade intruding on the Matthews home to question Julie, who barely escaped with her life the night before, demanding to know where he could locate Victor, and Abbey killing innocents because she could not cope with reality and her dream state which resulted in her violent behavior. I suppose I can include Boyd's inability to be cognizant of his wife's difficulty in adapting to their new environment, but I hasten to label Boyd a monster for that. I chalk that up to poor writing in order to supply a rationale for Abbey's outcome, and the reason for his son to resent him for not being there for the family. If Boyd found goats and chickens in the short time of him being there, what were they eating before he arrived? I thought that Boyd made sense of the talisman's protective potential was handled too quickly. Lastly, if the boy in white was leading Boyd to the talisman, why didn't Boyd see him? Instead he saw the boy's guard dog. This episode needed desperately to provide the viewers with answers it provided, but a better written story would be winding things down instead of providing a bevy of answers 3 episodes out of their first season that hasn't announced a future season. If this is a one and done series, I am unsure if they will stick the landing cleanly.
Those are very reasonable questions. There’s also no evidence that Julie was able to see the boy in white. It seems as if the boy chooses who can see him or only people who have the mind of child can see him (which is the one commonality we can easily see between Victor and Ethan.
@@FromLand I personally think that Victor and Ethan are the same person. I think that time is folding into itself in multiple scenes. Consider the bracelet that Tabitha discovered in the storage area of the Diner. Could this be a time loop or time being experienced simultaneously? We don't have enough information to tell yet. Victor never wants to discuss his back story while he has been in the town. Also there was the time that Sara and Ethan went out to the carousel type ride that Victor has been staring at as a child and as an adult that leads me to believe that it is a portal like the faraway trees. Who has Victor been involved with? Julie and Ethan. Why them? Why did Victor think that Ethan would make sense of the drawings? I could be totally off base. We'll see.
@@ENTERTAINMENT-yv2ll I have also been thinking there’s a connection between the Matthews and Victor since the beginning of the show (judging by the strangely subtle/non-malicious fixation that Victor seems to have on Julie). This connection could also be explained by Victor having knowledge of the future/past, and maybe having seen or interacted with Julie and Ethan on another timeline (like you also suggested).
@@ENTERTAINMENT-yv2ll how could they be the same person when we have seen scenes with Victor around the same age as Ethan. I think there only seems like a connection. At first, Victor didn’t want to talk to Ethan until he told him about seeing the boy in white. Then he showed interest. Then they talked and Ethan was interested in what Victor was doing and his drawings and this was the first person that Victor could talk to. And Victor said that when multiple cars came it meant something. That is his interest in Ethan.
@@kirielbranson4843 Since the show is short on answers, the only thing we can do is speculate. My comment on Victor and Ethan being the same person is in no way a definitive statement. I think there may be a timeline issue in the show though where there is some overlap between characters concerning how the "game" resets over and over. I will attempt to express why I believe that Victor and Ethan could quite possibly be the same person. #1. Victor never talks about his parents, his story. #2. Only Victor and Ethan have seen the boy in white(of course when I made the comment I didn't know that Sara would see him in a future episode, right?). #3. Victor told Julie to give the drawings to Ethan. Why? How could he think Ethan would be able to figure them out? They only shared 3 scenes total up to this point. #4. Victor has an unclear relationship with the Matthews family. He bonded with Ethan, rescued Julie, and was in the hole waiting for Tabitha to arrive in the last episode(obviously this reason is in support of my initial views from this episode). #5. Victor did not want to hear about Ethans brother who died as a baby. I know I am reaching. I am simply attempting to understand what the heck is going on in this show. The writers appear to be winging each episode without having a clear idea on the story they are telling us. Hello LOST writers!!! I think it would be interesting if Victor was Thomas who lived during one of the resets, but none of his other family members survived in that particular time loop. Or, what if the boy in white is Thomas and his objective is to heal his family and prevent Jim and Tabitha from getting a divorce? It's far out, I know but part of the enjoyment of the show for me is to speculate on what could possibly be the rationale behind the entire story. Don't take my word as sacrosanct. It is far from that. I am just having fun.
in Eps-2 they miss the perfect moment to explain it right... to the girl especially when the cop shot at one which she had recognize.they play too much when they really should buckle up to get them ready for what's happening
I like it being drawn out. They are letting us wonder on purpose. If they told all the answers right from the get go, we wouldn’t be as interested and it wouldn’t be thoughts provoking like it is now.
Is it just me or could a LOT of lives been saved if they just screwed the windows shut with long screws (not nails) and practiced safety protocols EVERY DAY??? Rule #1: Never open the windows at night. Under ANY circumstances Rule #2: Never invite ANYONE into the house at night. Under ANY circumstances Rule #3: See Rule #1 and Rule #2
The twist with Boyd’s wife death was really good, was not expecting that. Also think Victor lived in the town before it transform to what it is today.
I hope they do the history of Victor, we need to see his story too!
They all know that about victor already. They just have never asked him about his history about being in the town.

Boyd draws strength from an unlikely source; Jim's radio tower yields consequences which rock him to his very core; the hole that Tabitha has been digging leads her somewhere, and to someone, she could never have expected.
The dog still confuses me because it’s shown in one of Victor’s drawings sitting next to two of the smiling monsters, which seems to connect it with them
Everyone there seems to have been seeking something, someone, or headed to a new life.
This was my biggest takeaway from the episode as well. Definitely something to this
Anyone ever notice in scenes when there is background noise that once the characters start talking to each other the background noise goes totally silent ? It’s not even a slow fade out just quick silence. It’s almost like it is intentional. At first I thought it was just bad editing but then I noticed a trend during some scenes.
Interesting. I’d have to rewatch and see.
@@FromLand
It could be possible, what I can't put together is the science-fiction behind the town and the fantasy behind the talismans and the monsters two opposite things! the mysteries of this show are killing me, and I cant wait to see the next episodes.
@@maometus haha, I feel you there. Maybe you will find my next video as a compelling explanation, given that it’s a lot simpler.
@@FromLand
I hope you will,
I have read some abstracts from Wikipedia about the next episodes of this show but was not enough to make a conclusion about the monsters and the talismans.
Scary bald monster!
@@FromLand yes I agree! Like maybe some are evolving
@@gillyboat8723 Some got more XP than the others.
I also think there’s a “game” aspect in this place. There are plenty of allusions to that as well.
@@FromLand Could it be that they have reached level 2, and that is why they are now seeing a different place with a lighthouse?
@@8698gil Assuming there are levels, I think they still haven't unlocked a new one, but that may happen in season 2.
Anything but this cliche game theory would be welcome for me, too many of those already.
Not expecting a reply, just making my own notes. I think it's a microcosm. Episode 10 reinforced this, along with hollow-earth or pocket universes, living allegories and gears smoothly turning to keep the whole universe existing.
Boyd provided a fresh set of eyes. Almost like for progress
Some aspects of the Wild Hunt mythology is in this show.
I think the ghost people brought everyone there because they are trapped too. They brought people with special sets of skills/attributes that could possibly help figure out how to get everyone out. At any point if the town got comfortable or lost people the ghost people bring another family/group of people in
This is probably the worst prediction I ever seen.
Eu acho que os monstros são antigos moradores da cidade que foram presos lá por algum motivo. E que Victor sempre morou na cidade. Mas não foi transformado em monstro por algum motivo.
Estou pensando em algo muito parecido com isso.
Im sad you dont have more, Boyd and sara's adventure have a lot of questions to ask
I’ve been thinking about that too. I guess there’s a set of rules regarding these talismans. I’d like to see if it works on a moving car.
They would probably work in a tent. Ugh image being harassed in a tent though
I'll jizz in my pants if the season ends with some SCP soldiers rolling in.
Why don’t they chop the fallen tree in the road into pieces to see if more people still get lost there? Also they could write down the descriptions of the monsters to keep a manifest of them and find out how many they are, find out more about them
Im wondering if by them leaving this place they will also be freeing these creatures in the process.
That gesture seemed to me like an old-fashioned sign of welcoming or invitation to come along (like with royalty).
Did Boyd place a talismans in the cabin with Donna before he left I don't remember seeing one. If he didn't how did she survive the night. The town drunk was ripped to pieces with no talismans in his holding cell.
I think Donna probably had one, the one from colony house.
@@FromLand I was mistaken it was the wrong person. I rewatched the episode and Boyd came back before nightfall.
The dog was there when Victor was little. So the dog must be a ghost dog.
Or maybe the dog and kid drink ambrosia.
Oh yeah ... I didn't think of that!
Season 2 ?
Hopefully!
Are you the Guy of "Like movies of old?"
We know this heavily drawn from Norse mythology, we get hits, two opposing sides chaos and order tho which side is which, and hints that this is a game.
The monsters behavior is very orderly for them to be chaos. The sides of order and chaos could be possible flip
This could be a game between 2 Norse gods using one side as pawns.
Yeah I see your point. But to be fair what Jade did was uncalled for.
I don't understand why Jim thought Jade was after his daughter.
I feel the same way…I think they’re preparing us/setting him up to be killed off lol
I think he's being set up for a major redemption arc.
Lol biggest douchebag on tv? Sure hes not Great, but that's definitely an exaggeration
So, I wondering now about who side that boy in white is on now?🤔🤔
I think the boy in white is on the side of the people of the town. It’s also possible that the kid is some sort of neutral entity.
I kinda feel as though I’m watching the Xfiles mixed with Twin Peeks
Under ANY circumstances
Rule #2: Never invite ANYONE into the house at night. Under ANY circumstances
Rule #3: See Rule #1 and Rule #2
They already have done that. Things happen obviously.
